Team Aaron Berg and Matt Thayer from Sheboygan, WI took home the top honors with a 20 fish limit of fish weighing 12.39 pounds. Right behind in 2nd place team was Brandon Newby from Wisconsin Rapids and Ryan Wilson from Waupaca, WI with a bucket of 20 fish weighing 11.38 lbs. Trailing in 3rd place was Jim Hesse and Zach Nodolski both from Lincoln Nebraska with an 11.34# bag. Saturday kicked off with 2nd Annual KIDS ICE FISHING CLINIC. A record breaking number of 57 kids and their parents hit the Ice at Breckow’s landing. Each kid was given a rod and reel with a lighted visor Jason Mitchell Outdoors baseball hat, donated by Jason Mitchell and Future Angler Foundation. Kids, parents and helpers from all over got an education they will never forget and memories that will last a lifetime.
Following the KIDS ICE CAMP was the charity banquet put on by the RUTTING RIDGE FOUNDATION, INC. Rutting Ridge Foundation Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit company that was created to help physically challenged youth and veterans enjoy a hunting/fishing trip of a lifetime that they would not normally be able to experience. From hunting giant whitetails & turkeys in Buffalo County, Wisconsin, to fishing for 10-pound walleyes in the Mississippi River, it’s an outdoor adventure they will never forget! Their memorable experience doesn’t stop there. We also provide our wheelchair bound outdoorsmen & women the means to be able to continue enjoying the outdoors long after their trip with us are over. Through the generous donations received from our friends, supporters & sponsors we are able to provide them with their very own Action Chair. These tank type wheelchairs allow them to go off road/trail and into areas that standard wheelchairs can only hope to go. Mud & hills are nothing more than fun obstacles. The chairs become theirs to keep, so they can experience the outdoors on their terms and access all the areas they desire.

“THE DAY OF THE BAKERS DOZEN WALLEYE”

Since this was brought to my attention thought I would just clear a few things up. Especially since it was brought up by local that always has something bad to say about me.

I was actually fishing with my youngest son. We were having an awesome day of fishing and bonding together all day in the boat. Something I don’t get to do a lot since I am a divorced father, and time with my kids are limited between work and mothers schedule.
As evening came upon us the fish were counted in the live well to the best of our ability as evening set in. We thought we put our 12 fish in the boat so we decided we better head in for shore. Once we arrived at shore the Minnesota warden greeted us as he does so often. He asked how we did and I said we did awesome we a great day on the water. I told him I had a limit of walleyes and he asked if he could look. I said sure why not go ahead. As he pulled them all out we counted them together and noticed we had 12 walleyes and 1 small sauger that didn’t get must of got missed. My boy and I looked at each other with big eyes open, like what the heck. I apologized to the warden and said do what ya gotta do. My son started tearing up… We were over by one fish. It doesn’t matter who counted the fish but we were a team that day and every one makes mistakes…

Of course I felt terrible that this had happened especially in front of my young son. But then I got thinking that I was glad this had happened. First of all the Warden was doing his job and nothing else. Could of he said just throw one back, maybe, but that wasn’t the point. This just taught my son what it means to follow the rules. So apparently this costed me a 135$ to teach my kid a lesson.

I have been a guide since I was 17 years old on the Mississippi River and Lake Pepin and this was my first fine and I have been checked 100’s of times.
Whether a person is a pro or guide we all make mistakes. We spend each day on the water trying to follow rules and every changing law and do the best we can.

Sad part is that people that bring stuff up like this about other people….

People that have been around me, fished with me, and hunted with me know who I am. That’s what matters…..

I will continue on as always but just remembering to count a little better. When I fish with my son again we will look back at this, laugh and remember this memory and talk about the day of the “BAKERS DOZEN WALLEYE DAY”

I find it funny that someone that can have a 60K truck and boat that’s fully wrapped with his picture on it is making the biggest stink on a $30 landing fee. Everyone is so used to getting everything for free these days! Im all for keeping the landing in good condition.

I don’t have a problem at all paying the fee…Not at all…. especially if it gets used the right way maintaining the launches. What I was worried about how many people will now use a different landing causing less revenue in the city. If everyone goes to a different landing now so they don’t have to pay may have an effect on local business like bait shop and lodging, etc. Grown up in Alma all my life some of these people are my friends that it will affect..

Meeting is over…Guess it didn’t matter if you came voiced for or against they were voting on it anyway tonight. Think there was about 10 people that showed up. Some were not sure…Only 1 was for it. However, lots of ideas were brought up how to fix the issue. I thought they would table it to see if anyone like rod and gun club or anyone else could find a way to raise money for it…Nope….The council went ahead and voted anyway. I even gave the Mayor a study that was done about effects of tournament fishing does to a community. Thinking that tournaments might not want to come now that they have to pay launch fee of $5 or $45 a year..He didn’t have time to look at it but they still voted on it…..Couldn’t believe it. Seemed like our opinion didn’t even matter and seemed to be more just a waste of my time…..I hope tournaments still launch of alma or they just lost lots of revenue…I also hope they put it to good use and doesn’t get earmarked somewhere else…

I am neither for or against at this point in time until I get more info. But usually the locals and fisherman rarely use the city docks( docks near the business area). Only dock they do use is at launch site. I don’t think fisherman should have to pay to take care of the public docks but rather the business people of alma. These are mostly used by tourists. Business’s are the ones benefiting from these docks, except the launch dock. Isn’t there money available from the WI Tourism grants for city docks? I have heard that a fee of 30$-$40 a year or $3-5$ per launch. How do other cities like Lake City pay for all there launches with out fees?
