On Walleye opener, following limits, trolled northern baits (daredevil, johnson silver minnows) with no hits. Did that for about an hour is all, so hard to say. Good luck.

Also very good fishing for all of our group. 9 guys, all limits. We kept the eaters, 13 – 16 and had a dandy of a fish fry on Saturday night. I released 2 slot fish – 17 3/4 and 18″, but that is sure fun to do when you are getting hits on every run. Biggest fish on Shiners on bottom bouncer. Wind was tough, but worth it to catch fish.
So is the slot limit working? I say yes!!
May 4, 2009 at 10:06 pm #773813I also fished on Saturday on Spirit. Eventually went to drifting with crawler and picked up 2 keeper eyes. Both 16 1/2″. It was a pretty good day on the lake, although the wind was pretty brisk and cool. Typical early May fishing. Thanks for the great pictures
April 5, 2009 at 5:39 pm #765903I’m shooting for Easter Saturday to give it a try for the first time. Water temps will probably still be cold, but maybe something will be hungry.

Thanks for the fishing report and congrats on the tourney win. I will be heading to Osakis starting July 7. I have fished it the last couple of years so I have a sense of how to fish this lake.
Any suggestions for patterns for Walleye and/or bluegills that are working this year would be greatly appreciated.
July 25, 2006 at 2:07 am #463127Went today, Monday July 24. Put in at the North ramp and tried pulling a Lindy Rig, attempting to stay away from trees. No luck.
Encountered a boat fishing on a hump and they were very helpful. We anchored close, fished nightcrawler and got some decent gills (nothing huge, but keepable if you desired). Fished about 12 ft of water.
This person said walleye bite was hour before dark. We didn’t have the time to stay.
He also said that at times they get nice crappie, probably spring and fall.
Very challenging place to fish. If I lived closer I would try to visit often to find the patterns and locations. 2 hour drive makes it tough.
July 17, 2006 at 5:11 pm #461089Well, just returned from Osakis, so I’ll post a report.
Caught many small walleye (sub 15″) on the humps. Slip bobbered with leech as well as lindy rig with floater and leech. Same result.
Caught best fish while trolling crank baits. Caught keeper walleye in the 17 – 19 inch range. Caught a number of decent northern, biggest about 5 lbs.
Spent most of our time cranking around the outlet, also worked the three mile area. Tried to stay about 9 1/2 ft for depth, with trolling speed 2.3 to 2.6. Used a variety of lures.
There were a group in our resort who were catching sunnies of decent size. They said there were getting them in the outlet area.
July 1, 2006 at 7:46 pm #457735Back for a short trip on Friday, June 30. Fished 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. using Lindy Rig floaters. Boat partner using leeches and I was using minnows. Caught a number of walleye, one 19 inch, one 16 inch, others sub legal. The keepers were on the minnows.
Fishing on South East part of lake on a hump.
Now just need to find time to get back there while the fish are still biting.
April 16, 2006 at 5:03 pm #438622Went fishing on Good Friday. Beautiful weather. Wind had changed to Northerly, from South on Thursday. Don’t know what impact that had. I had surface temps in the 50’s. There were a number of boats out. Tried at the outlet with lindy rig, floater, minnow. Caught a couple of 6″ walleye. Moved to the island where there was a group of boats generally anchored. Tried anchoring and slip bobber with minnow on bare hook. Caught a couple more of the 6″ walleye as well as one “nice” bullhead. Moved to North Shore and pulled cranks for a while with no hits. I suspect the change in wind didn’t help the day, but it was sure nice to be out. Guy at Dome said that activity had been increasing. My boat partner tried nightcrawler also with no real luck.
June 30, 2005 at 1:14 am #370751H.D. thanks for the suggestions. I’ll try to post a report when I return.
June 26, 2004 at 1:35 pm #310120Well, went fishing at Brushy on Friday, June 25. Beautiful weather, tall high pressure, clear blue skies. Ok, you get the idea, the weather did not lend itself to great fishing.
We did catch some smaller bluegills. They were biting close to shore around cover. Hitting a piece of nightcrawler. Would also hit a leech, but you would want a small one.
Caught one 15 inch largemouth bass. Trolling from North to South on old roadbed with lindy rig, floater, nightcrawler. Released the bass. Talked to a guy who was fishing for bass behind the island on the South End. Said it was a great spot in the spring, but the pattern had changed.
We tried several other places including up by the dam. Generally we were trying for walleye or crappie, didn’t see either. I suspect the crappie are suspending in the deeper water and we just couldn’t get them.
There were a number of other fishermen out also, but I saw alot of fishing and not alot of catching.
Duncombe Gas and Grocery is a good place to get bait, lake maps, and fishing reports. Thanks.
June 21, 2004 at 5:49 pm #309463Clay,
Thanks for the info. I and a friend are going to go there Friday morning. It’s a two hour drive from here in Osage, so I hope it’s worth the effort. I have been there a couple of times in the past, but generally on the ice. I’ll post a report when I return.
June 14, 2004 at 11:52 pm #308643Went out above the dam at Mitchell last week before it rained hard again. River pretty muddy yet. I don’t have much experience on this fishery, but did manage one crappie of fair size (released). When the river comes down a bit hope to try some more. I’ll post when I have something interesting to report.
