My two sons and I had our best sits of the year tonight…deer were seen by all and a couple good bucks at last light that didn’t present good shot opportunities…my youngest got his bonus tag punched too…damn cold today…

November 13, 2024 at 3:54 pm #2299041I hunt with a group that has hunted together since the 70’s…it’s a big chunk (around 1000 acres counting tilled ground which is about 2/3 of it)in zone 240…we saw far less deer this year than ever in the past…including a few sits for youth season and a few more with the crossbow before rifle season…it’s a 3 deer zone and we generally take about 5-7 deer from it as a party per year…we saw more coyotes this year than all years in the past combined…not sure what’s to blame but we are going to do some yote thinning over winter..(I started already)

October 22, 2024 at 4:15 pm #2295359When in doubt call the local warden to get his take on it…I do it whenever I have questions about stuff like that…road right of ways(which can also be a call to the county offices), water entry points, etc…have all been figured out before there is an issue…I got cussed out by neighbors and ruined an opening day years ago…they were completely wrong but the local police got involved and forced us off the pond to chat…never again…it’s actually a pretty good idea to be on a first name basis with your local CO…
October 20, 2024 at 10:08 am #2294876Sat for 3 evenings with my son for the youth hunt…unbelievably slow…saw one deer in 3 sits…farmer was pulling corn off and filling grain bins fairly close to our stands the first two nights…last night got back into the big woods and equally dismal…full moon killed us I think…
October 11, 2024 at 7:23 pm #2293477I still have this somehow…please, if you can’t find the time to pick it up, don’t say you will take it…

September 1, 2024 at 7:49 am #2287607Put mine in for the last time with my ATV…this plot was chest high weeds the day we planted..sprayed it, disced as best as we could, planted, and then disced the seed in…had not much hope for success but came back a couple weeks later to a pleasant surprise! Last pic is my son spraying, at times all I could see was his head through the weeds…threw some rye down in the bare spots same day first pic was taken…

July 2, 2024 at 7:40 am #2279463Price drop! $700 for the ruger, $250 for the Remington…will trade for over/under or semi auto 12 gauge..
May 5, 2024 at 8:29 am #2271083Thanks guys- would really have no use for the gun so passed on the trade…I would have been getting the short end of the stick with the value you guys put on the gun anyway..
April 14, 2024 at 1:40 pm #2267219I’m not sure about the blood trail drying up…I’m guessing he was hit either back in the mid section or hindquarter…I was using a Howa 30-06 with 180 grain Hornady bullets… I don’t blame any of it on my gun or bullets…I shot at a running deer…got the fever at the time…we are allowed to use dogs but the time and terrain didn’t really make it a viable option at the time…second pic is the trail initially…first pic is the bed we kicked him out of…he left virtually zero blood after that bed..

April 13, 2024 at 10:34 pm #2267165We were within 100 yards of him…unfortunately that 100 yards was 8’ tall cattails and 5’ of muck under them…ready to see him in person tomorrow…

January 7, 2024 at 4:44 pm #2246012Thanks for all the info guys! I’m guessing the plots all together are going to be less than 5 acres total…not super interested in mowing with it…my cabin driveway is small but it’s some of my excuse to “need” a tractor with the boss…so some sort of blade or bucket would be nice…$2k isn’t my limit but will need to buy a few implements as well…seems there are quite a few of these mentioned in my price range…
December 3, 2023 at 6:28 pm #2239802Muzzleloader hunted the last couple

November 28, 2023 at 6:29 pm #2238701My season has been a frustrating one as it sounds like many others here…Wounded the biggest buck I have ever had in my sights on opening day…looked for him for basically both weekends of rifle season…passed on a few small bucks including a tempting 8pt last night…been trying to shoot a doe all weekend and they are all of a sudden the smartest things on the planet…threw up a Hail Mary tonight and setup an old popup blind next to a big lone cedar overlooking the only standing food on the land we hunt…told myself the first antlerless deer was going home with me…the first couple came in behind me and downwind (which they never enter the field this way, just my luck) and blew out fairly early in the evening…then with about 2 minutes of legal light 4 came blasting into the field…picked out the biggest doe and literally yanked the trigger like a 12 year old…scope smacked glasses, glasses bloodied nose…deer just stood there…after about 10 seconds they decided they should leave and the doe dropped after about a 10 yard run…what a relief! First doe I have ever taken in about 40 years of hunting…
