In Wisconsin (and I would assume it to be the same in Minn.) as long as the Eye meets any size limits (length, slot if one exists) and would be legal to keep, as long as you add it to your daily bag limit, you can use it for bait. I know a guy that has used eyes on the lower side of a slot (slot 14 – 18″) for musky.

AND if your daughter was taking Aikido, like my 7yo daughter, the perp would have been fearing for HIS life…
Your daughter wear those wonder woman bracelets?Even though I agree it was a good ending, the point he is making is that you can’t have people going Clint Eastwood all over the place. Now I wasn’t in his shoes, so I am not going to say he was wrong or fault him for anything, however after the emotions settle, he did make a mistake pursuing the perp.
Yep! Thats my point!
October 22, 2011 at 12:47 am #1003253my point is, there are innocent bystanders that are placed in danger by getting into a gun fight with a perp that is being pursued. Yes, the perp is still out there, but my daughter didn’t die because someone trying to do good went beyond their training and played cops and robbers with real bullets. protect yourself and your family from an immediate threat but leave the the rest to the trained professionals (cops). You put yourself and others at too much risk trying to play vigilante.
October 22, 2011 at 12:16 am #1003251[quote My interpretation of pistol whipping any person, let alone an older woman, equates to life threatening.
True… unfortunately, this guy chased the perp and then shot him. Life threatening ended when the chase began. Not saying it’s right…. just saying….
My problem is this: if your daughter happened to be exiting that resturant at that particular time and was shot and killed in the cross fire of the gun fight, who ever fired the fatal shot, whose to blame? The perp, or the Samaratin that pursued him and forced the issue? I hold them equally responsible. Had the Samaratin not pursued, My daughter would still be alive.September 30, 2011 at 9:35 pm #998383Quote:

Careful there… with concealed carry now in the picture, someone may just see the paint gun and see that as a real threat and the only issue needing solving would be your funeral or medical expenses.July 2, 2011 at 3:42 pm #977981Gee, not one Rap artist named here. Wonder why? You think in 15 years there will be a “classic rap station”?
Gotta say Eagles, Hotel California, or Meatloaf Bat out of Hell. Of course if you want an album that I know most of the lyrics to that would include Queen War of the World.
November 30, 2010 at 1:10 am #94909We were talking about that this week. I am just wondering if that is maybe why he seemed so sluggish? Maybe all of those people in the woods woke him from his nap! I think I can honestly say that I have woke up from a deep sleep and been kind of ” out of it” for a while! I am just glad I didn’t need to pull the trigger. I have talked to several people that have said they would have not been as patient and trusting as I was. That bear would have been dead if it came any where near that close to them! At the time, I really was very calm and matter of fact. I guess having a 30.06 with 180 grain bullets in my hands mat have something to do with that. I will say that in the hours after my little encounter I was a little more “worked up” than during the actual encounter!
November 26, 2010 at 1:39 am #912380JUst something to think about. A small, regular cab pick up (Ranger, S-10) will limit the number of passengers he can take. Teens tend to get into more trouble “showing off” by driving too fast, doing stupid things (boys) or simply being distracted by others in the vehicle (girls). I know I stereotyped and either sex can get into trouble either way but from my observations (I see it daily… I work at a high school)a bunch of young kids in a car withan inexperianced driver is rarely a good recipie
November 25, 2010 at 2:10 am #94473Here is a really good “whole muscle” recipe. I did an entire “rump roast” from my deer last year with this and it was great. If you freeze the meat a little it makes slicing a lot easier.
For each pound of whole muscle meat
slice meat about 1/4 ” thick
1/4 cup soysauce
1 TBS Worcestershire sauce
1 Teaspoon garlic salt
add seasoned pepper to taste @ 3 TBS
I use the “grinders” seasoned pepper but there are many others. Let this marinate over night in ziplock bags and dehydrate ( I would think the oven would work fine if you have the racks or something to get it up off the flat surface a little)Whole muscle tends to take a little longer but it is worth it in my opinoin!November 11, 2010 at 1:47 am #908995I saw this subject and thought the old breast pump thread was back again . October 24, 2010 at 12:42 am #89814Here is a picture of the first hunt of the year this season (2010). It was a great day with both mhy buddy and I limiting out. This is Maddies second season and she is off to a great start. My buddy and I grilled up these two tonight with a side of wild rice and it was a great meal! Can’t wait to get out again!
September 9, 2010 at 1:57 am #72819I have hunted females exclusively for years. The one that I have spayed never had a problem. The one that I bred had larger more erect nipples. I always felt sorry for her after hunting. She was usually bloody, raw and/or scabbed up. She never seemed to mind at all but It always made me feel bad! I often thought about the vests but was always afraid they would over heat my dog. The vest shown in the post above dosent seem like it would do any good for the raw nipple problem as it seems to be more of a chest protector. I hunt labs so I have never had to do the shave thing. If you choose the prtector, just be sure to be extra aware of the temp and watch your dog closely. Lots of breaks and plenty of water! Good luck and good hunting!
LabmanSeptember 6, 2010 at 3:15 pm #897674“On August 27, the EPA denied the petition regarding ammunition, but let stand the petition to ban lead in fishing tackle and has opened a short period for taking public comment.”
This makes no snese at all! If you do any upland or turkey hunting at all, you will most likely leave more lead behind in one season (if you see any birds at all ) than even the most avid fisherman would leave in a decade or perhaps a lifetime! Granted, if you are fishing rock piles or heavy wood you are bound to lose a few jigs. But if I am correct in how I understand the numbers on the shot shells, you would need to lose 5 1/4oz jigs to equal the lead in just one shot gun shell (1 1/4oz) (I am not a ballistics expert and don’t claim to be knowledgeable about how shells are made. I just buy ’em and shoot ’em )Imagine how much lead is distributed in one night of a trap shooting league! It looks like the fishing industry and fishermen are being unfairly singeled out on this one!
I will be signing up!December 28, 2009 at 1:50 am #827044“Also you wont get much of a hog for 10K”. This is another reason I really am not considering Harley. If I can make a comparison.. an alumacraft may not hold it’s value as well as a Lund, but if maintained it will get me where I want to go when I want to get there for a very long time. And, I can afford to get “more boat” for the same investment. (I really don’t know those statements to be accurate, but use them as an example).
As for the Goldwing, I am not looking to do long road trips and don’t care for the “full dress” look that the Wings have in my mind. Ironically, I like, and am looking for the classic “American” styling…kind of like an old school Harley, with the wider gas tank, wide tires with full wide fenders. Another example of the style I am looking at is below
December 27, 2009 at 2:02 am #826816I thought I might get a rise out of a Harley guy with that comment! I really have no basis for not wanting a Harley other than living on a busy street for years and listening to them “roar” down the street all day/night (some people like that sound… just not me!) and then riders at the stop light shake like they just fed the vibrating bed a pocket full of quarters! I have nothing against those who choose to ride them… they just aren’t for me

April 22, 2009 at 8:13 pm #770389Thanks for the reply’s guys. I just had it out after I posted and it did the same thing. It almost seems to be better at first start up (engine cold). Ruger, what did you do to fix your issue? I am going to begin with Seafoam and then go from there.
April 21, 2009 at 1:12 am #50296here are a couple from my pups first season. in the first one it was her first time out hunting, she did well and really worked good. used her nose and quartered very well. the birds in the picture were flushed by my buddies year old lab but Maddie (my pup) was right there… just got eat to the punch by the older experienced dog! In the second picture, Maddie got her first flush but was muscled out for the retrieve by my buddies dog . of the three birds in the picture, she flushed two, and retrieved two (she won the second race to the bird and we were away from my buddy and his dog for the third Not too bad for a first year and 3-4 months old! I can’t wait until next year!

What about a small carpet cleaner?
DT
This along the lines of what I was going to suggest. What you need is an upholstery attachment to an extractor (carpet cleaner). Use some “spot remover” that is made for oil or petroleum based stains and then use the hottest water you can in the machine. There is also a “scent” additive to add to the water but that will just cover the smell and not take it away. You may need to “extract” it several times.March 13, 2009 at 12:30 am #758009This is a tough one. For those that say “times have changed” since they were that age, they are right. Now instead of a phone call to the parents for underage drinking, they get arrested and or a ticket that goes on their record. Colleges look at those records (at least some do) when deciding on admission or scholarships. Back then, two “kids” having a little “fling” and getting caught had to answer to the girls dad. Now it’s rape and you get put on that sexual offenders list for life. The “stupid kid stuff” that we all did when young, is no longer considered “stupid kid stuff”. It is usually treated as a crime! Now that I have scared you and made every parent of a teenager worried , I say, if they have an itinerary, and you trust them, and have had the “adult” talk with them, let him go! Just understand, even good kids have lapses in judgment! Good luck!

The thermostat is set high like at 170-180 or something. I’ve been meaning to turn it down because there is a baby in the house.
If I were a betting man, I would say that here is your problem. Check all your faucets for drips. (You would be surprised at how much water runs down the drain with the smallest of drips!)You can also check your water usage to make sure you don’t have leaks. Also make sure your “mixing valve” faucets (these are the ones with the single handle) will produce COLD water. If it will not get cold (stays warm or even hot) change that valve/cartridge/faucet. You are using too much hot water! What ever you do..Turn down your water heater! Imagine how much “cold” water you need to use just to “temper” the hot in order to make it usable for bathing, washing your hands …ETC! This is the first place I would check.
Good luck!
LabmanFebruary 23, 2009 at 11:50 pm #751700Walleye,
Yes they make a screw in fuse style resetable “breaker”. We had one in our last house before we upgraded to breakers and a larger service. I would try to figure out what all that circut serves. If it serves lights and outlets in multiple bedrooms, (fairly common in older homes), you will need to try to be selective with what is running when. Anything that produces heat will take up more amperage as will things that “cool” (like a mini fridge). If both you and your roomate have a fridge in your rooms, and say an electric blanket that is on, and then you both decide to surf the net while cranking the stereo (ok, I know kids today have IPODS and no one listens to a stereo any more… I am showing my age!)and someone turns on a light…. well you get the picture. It won’t take long to add up to that 15 amp fuse (that is what is in most older homes for non kitchen areas). Be carefull not to reset it too often in a realativly short amount of time. The wires heat up and melt the insulation over time and then you could have a real problem! I am of course assuming that it is simply an over loaded circut and not a problem with the wireing. If it happens often, check your load (what is plugged in) and see if you are exceeding the rated amps for the fuse/breaker. If you are not, call your landlord ASAP and get the system checked by a qualified electriction. Fuses pop for a reason… either they are over loaded, or you have a wireing problem!Labman
February 13, 2009 at 10:18 pm #748169Hey bud…. I can truly say I know what you are going through. I put one dog down in January of last year pretty much due to old age (she was almost 13) and then about the time I was beginning to think more about the one I had left, She was diagnosed with cancer and the vet said it would be two weeks tops. Four days later I put her down. You won’t believe it right now, but the hurt does get better. You will never forget (I just shed a tear this past weekend while I was at a place we used to go and memories came flooding in!) but the memories turn into good ones. You will forget the tough time you just went through, and instead will remember that first bird, or the romps in the field, or just the image of him/her laying on the floor next to you…all the good ones!
Prayers sent for your bud, and also for you and your family.
Take care,

February 3, 2009 at 1:12 pm #743957Just a theory on my part… but I think it has something to do with the competitive nature of everything even fishing these days! We all talk about “getting the kids on fish”, Keeping their intrest, Dont let them get bored…. What ever happened to just going fishing? When I was young, my dad and I would go fishing on the river mostly on the weekends. We had a 15 foot flat with a 20 horse Johnson on it. No electronics, no trolling motor, go GPS, no river maps, nothing but the ability to “read ther river” and some time. We fished the bottom with a three way swivel, a hook (#2) and a bell sinker. We caught sheepshead, channel cats, mud cats, walleye, pan fish, carp,… pretty much everything that swam in the river and it didn’t matter. We didn’t care what we caught. Today, too many people are fishing species specific. We are disapointed when we catch that 4 pound sheepshead because “dang it… we are fishing for walleyes”! I would have been excited to catch that sheepshead…imagine the fight it provided! With the popularity of tournaments, Alot of “Dads” tend to specalize. Look at the threads here. Jack fishes walleye, Slop fishes Bass, Gary fishes muskies…. I may have mixed up the names with the type of fish but you get the point. With the advent of all the electronics, there is so much detailed information available both before you get on the water, and then while you are on the water, the pressure to “catch” that walleye suspended 2 feet off the bottom on that rock pile at these “coordinates” then becomes work. We are now a society of instant gratification, and beating the other guy. Don’t get me wrong. Dad and I had our own competition when we went fishing… first fish (any kind) biggest fish (any kind), biggest “quality” fish (these were the ones we would keep to eat… eyes, pike, catfish…). Point is, we never really knew what we would catch! In my 47 years, I have NEVER seen my dad get skunked! He always catches something… even if it is a lowly carp. For me, when I was young, (and even now if I stop to think about it) it was about going fishing with my Dad rather than catching a bunch of fish. I think we have lost the point of “recreational” fishing. It is now very technical and the competitive side means we have to work at it. When I think of fishing… the way I was brought up with it, I picture the boy with the overalls, no shirt, straw hat, no shoes or socks, tin can of worms beside him, sitting on the bank with a cane pole and float. Now that’s fishing!
