I realize that tournament fisherman arent the only ones who will buzz ya while fishing, but the attitude of some of the guys posting here is where you get a bad rap, “I paid alot of money to fish this tournament so you have to like it when I treat you like SH1T”. I have another example from last year, I went down to lake Mendota to fish the opener last year, cold, rainy lousy day, very few boats on the lake, my partner and I were casting cranks on a flat and along comes this boat pulling planer boards coming straight at us I’m thinking hes gonna turn, nope comes within 20 feet of us I could have netted one of the boards, thats how close he was, yes he was a tournament fisherman, he wasnt in a tournament I beleive he was probably guiding, but his name was plastered all over his boat, I looked his name up on the web when I got back, he was a madison guy and low and behold this guy was twice named sportsman of the year by the MWC, there were also 2 kids in his boat so he was teaching them just what it takes to be a true sportsman. Are all tournament fisherman like this, obviously not but when you have your name and lots of sponsor stickers on your rig I think you need to show more respect than just the average “weekend warrior” because we are worthy of being on the water with you even if we only spent $5 in minnows to be out there.

My post stated that I looked at the website and looks to me that they would have lost about $250,000, I know if you do the math they are going to lose some money even with a full field but maybe losing money and the bad publicity this thing was generating was enough for them to cut there losses. Just throwing it out there.

Dont want to rile everyone up but maybe another possible reason this thing was cancelled was lack of interest. There was less than half a field registered for this thing and if the RCL website is correct the deadline to register was today (they may have put that there because it was cancelled) I beleive someone said they had 80 teams registered, well this tournament paid $1500 out to 60th place, pretty good chance of getting your entry fee back, I dont care how deep the pockets are of the sponsors, they were going to lose a ton of money.

Why should the RCL care about our fishery, they have plenty of other places just dying for them to come to town so why will they feel bad about taking a couple thousand pounds out of these pools, next year they can just go to 10,11,12 or wherever, but why is the DNR mandating this? How about if it is going to be a kill tournament make it a 3 fish limit, I dont know, I was worried when I heard this tournament was being rescheduled to July but now I am more than worried, all this after we had excellent spawning conditions this spring with the river closed for almost a month so they could do it in peace, I guess we may as well keep some fish to eat the next few weeks because alot of them are going to be butchered at the end of the month.

    Had to vent
