It some PC BS. Ethnic sensitivity or something the NCAA is doing. Making all teams with Indian names change to something else. Its a big problem in ND though, because the Englestad’s own the stadium, not the state, and a clause in the agreement says if the school changes its team’s name they can not play in Englestad arena. The NCAA says they won’t allow the NCAA tourney to come there again until the school changes their name, and if they do, they won’t have a place to host the NCAA tourney or play anymore!

If they change their name, they’ll have to find a new stadium to play in. Englestad is privately owned and UND is allowed to play there as long as they want unles they change their name, then they are out.

A few years ago the Gophers made it to the NCAA’s and lost and people were giving them a lot of grief and all I could think of was that there were 5 players missing from that team that were making it big in the NHL at the time the Gophers lost.

Minnesota doesn’t cater to just “rich city” kids. They give schoolships to kids from all over the state. Truth is that many of the small town kids don’t want to come to the cities, I personaly can’t blame them for that.

I personaly think its sad to see the hard earned tax dollars of the ND people being used to give Canadian kids schoolarships when so many ND kids just can’t afford go to college.

I’d like to see the NCAA put some limits on this practice.

As bad as this world around us is becoming a joke or 2 about it makes it a bit easier to accept.

Some vehicles have a VCM (variable cylinder managment) system that can make a big diffenece also. For instance, my ’08 Dodge Ram has it and the difference in milage between 64, and 65 MPH is almost 3MPG! At 64 the system only uses as many cylinders as needed to maintain that speed, at 65 the system disengages, and it runs on all 8 full time.

64MPH is about 18.9 MPG
65MPH is about 15.4 MPG

During the time the natives are netting, Mille Lacs is purely tribal waters. You and I can not legally fish for walleye on Mille Lacs at the time of year they are netting, even though we are just as much a US citizen as they are.

As for the walleye going to market, only the Red Lake treaty allowed for native harvested walleye to be sold in the US. It is not legal for the tribes that harvest fish from Mille Lacs to sell those fish at all. That harvest is for sustinance use only by the tribes.

Most all walleye sold in restaurants today has been coming from Canadian waters of Lake Erie, or LOTW..

Now that Minnesota has rescued Red Lake, and the Tribe there has started to commercially fish it again, we will probably start seeing walleye from Red Lake showing up in the market place.

It takes 3-4 years to raise a walleye to a suitable size for harvest, so the idea of “farm raised” walleye is very very doubtful. The time and cost would be way to prohibative.

My point is that I’d rather know I was eating Canadian walleye as opposed to tribal fish being marketed as Minnessota walleye. Tribal netted walleye does not come from Minnesota waters, it comes from Tribal waters that neither you or I am allowed to fish. Presenting that product as “Minnesota Walleye” just is not true, and quite honestly I do not like to see anything tribal associated with the MINNESOTA TWINS. As the tribes have been insisting on for so long now, they are not Minnesota, they are their own soveriegn nation. They should not be allowed to sell or merchandise their goods as being “Minnesota” anything.

Nobody here really cares about Mille Lacs anymore.
