March 25, 2011 at 1:06 am #950495Assuming, the last post will cause tight lips.. And our trip would take an hour n a half to get there, and this would be our first time on the water this year because we can rarely get away from kids or work….and it may be our one and only time before the river floods again out of control for the next few months,…can anyone post more specifically on pool 9. Would it be worth going tomm am? We do not get to go often..any advice would be wonderfull. And I am not a tourney fisherman. Just a carpenter, looking to catch a few fish, and breath a moment of fresh air from life.
March 20, 2010 at 4:03 pm #855609Not nice Gutone…Im that Iowa guy…lol. Was a tough day with cross wind over current. But frow what i saw…Ruger…u guys r pretty good with a boat yourselves. Nice fish!…We did get some good..15, 16 inch eaters for the fry pan. Really nice not to be framing metal studs and hanging drywall. Ill chose dinks over that any day.
March 20, 2010 at 3:52 pm #855607Maybe between BrianK, Dean, and James…An Everts 2, could be started out of Ecnooks garage….
March 20, 2010 at 3:43 pm #855606Ecnook…Was a tough day friday…i posted my ufda! post. Maybe we could meet sometime and spend a day on the water…I know a lady that i can get some canned chicken, or canned venison…for guide service fees . Think i say every single boat on pool 9 friday…and never saw a bite..5 boats of cold guys. Did get one flathead. Smackem…Of the thirty-two we caught in 2 1/2. hours, the better fish were in the 15, 16 inch area. Have been suprised tho this season…usually we just slam the cats on the curves below the mouth of the minnesota slough….but nothing this year….I love eating winter channels…kinda dissapointed.
November 8, 2009 at 12:59 am #814561Nice boat dave… I was up there the same day. I was in a 21′ lund alaskan w/ 115 4-stroke honda. Spent alot of time around the dam, spill-way, and s-curves. Seemed like a tough day for me. Saw a ton of small fish caught by all the guys sitting side by side on the wall. I just did not want to get in that mix. Caught a few nice fish at spillway.. Watched a guy from shore pull some nice eyes in right off the outlet. Did not want to crowd him, so moved on. Thinking about going up tommorow but if it is just by the wall… I dont know. Lots of amish fishing. That was kind of wierd. Anyway.. If you have a bit of advise I would greatly appriciate any. Again.. beautiful rig. If you see a big ole’ alaskan w/ a 115 honda say hello.
November 8, 2009 at 12:45 am #814559The Choke-eyes were due for a loss..beat all the gravy train up to this point. They will lose to ohio state by 21.. and smoke minnesota for a 10-2 season. They will get a Capital one bowl bid or allstate sugar bowl bid… get smoked in sugar bowl by tcu. Or smoked in capital one bid and get smoked by LSU. Just a prediction. Dang hawks..Stanzy better wrap it up, and buck up.

June 11, 2009 at 12:34 pm #783290Hey guys. Im going to be heading to pool 10 with 4 kids in two weeks to go camping for 4 days. We will try for some eyes and panfish during the day, but at night i would love to put them into some great cat fishing. I love catfishing at night. Looking for channel cats. Could you guys help me a bit by telling me what to look for, for a couple good spots to put them on some channel cats? And possibly what i should use, and how i should set it up. Do any of u ever use black lights, to make your line shine in the dark? I remember doing that with my dad when I was a kid, and I remember it being soooo cool. Thank you to anyone that has any suggestions for summer cats on pool 10.
June 11, 2009 at 12:26 pm #783285Is there an article showing the proper way to drag jigs.? weights, upstream, downstream, possibaly a visual pic of the rig? Thank you.
March 13, 2009 at 1:53 pm #758182Not that I would ever want to see anyone get hurt. And I am glad these two guys are ok. And If people could read they would see that john was not making any specific personal attacks. Saying all that, I have many times every year hoped that many lower units would be torn off of idiots boats that use the river to only screw around. And usually these people have little to no respect for anyone else. So I am also with jon here. Freedom of speech. Its a good thing. And idiots who rip there lower units off on the river because they are jacking around…..Also a good thing.
March 7, 2009 at 9:34 pm #755928The (MICRA) Sauger managenent investigation was a collaboration of many states fisheries management officials, this extensive research project states that from (75%-90%) of saugers and walleyes taken from the tail water scour holes 30ft and deeper have a mortality rate of up to (90%), due to pressure changes in the air blatters. Reeled slow or not. All of these fish would have to be fizzed to help decrese the mortality rate prior to release. Yes, because the entire mississippi basin dnr management officials, have not agreeded yet to suspend fishing below the tailwaters along the entirety of the mississippi river, it does put a bit of responsibility at this point, until this decision becomes agreeded along the entirety of the mississippi river in the hands of the sport fisherman to fish responsibility. To each there own, in deciding to fish responsibily. If you dont care, you dont care. Some people are like that.
March 7, 2009 at 6:05 pm #755906I believe there are no restrictions on pool 10. Maybe I should just mind my own business. and do my own thing.
March 7, 2009 at 5:42 pm #755899For those of us who cannot attend, will there be a possibility that it will be recorded and downloaded to the net for later viewing?
March 5, 2009 at 5:02 am #755223Andy, Hopefully your midnight eastern iowa stocking program will take place at Volga Lake in N.E. Ia. The lake really needs something. Could use some vegitation in the lake also…
February 24, 2004 at 1:00 am #293759Just wondering? Many of us here enjoy our meals of the various species of fish that we catch…but….at the same time we are also supporters of “catch and release” practices. I know this is a goofy way to put this, but, isnt catch and release basically the same as culling. We take a few fish home to the wife for a meal and enjoy the rest of the day fishing with a buddy releasing fish. So if we are just catch and releasing….which is a good thing…..we would have to stop fishing completely to curb the loss of fish due to temp,hook,depth,mis-handeling(even accidental) or any other intrusion to the fish that we all cause every time we just go fishing??
November 28, 2003 at 2:13 am #283316Was at Lansing monday thought it would be a great day. Well….there were NO ducks and it was so cold that from the time we pulled into the area we hunt north of big lake to the morning when we woke up , the whole lake had frozen with at least a half inch of ice. It took us a good hour to break ourselfs out and then the flight was really non-existent. There were a ton of gulls. One green-head flew in and came home, we had a groupe of 6 big canadas work us reall hard as we called, but we had made the mistake of not putting out the goose decoys and paid for it, they just would not commit without seeing there decoy buddies. It was windy sunday night with a big front, I cannot imagine that they all left with it, but, we did not see them. I would of thought that we would have at least seen them flying the channel, but only a few flocks all day. How did everyone else do early this last week in this area? Good luck all.

August 27, 2003 at 3:03 am #274351From my memory, I believe here in Iowa the color is usually orange. Is there a color spectrum change the futher north and south we are..Just Interested. Thanks
August 25, 2003 at 3:03 am #274121As Greg posted earlier this paticular N.Light pic was taken in Alaska. That is a beautiful pic. If it was minus the truck, I believe that it would be my screen saver. If there are others minus the truck I would love to see them. Also just once I would like to be the person snaping the picture. You WOULD have to be able to feel; being in a place and moment like that, that you were very close to god. Beautiful…..I try to take moments when I am with my children, and in the outdoors, to take an extra deep breath and take in the beauty that is missed by so many.
August 13, 2003 at 9:26 pm #273264Geezzz Spoonchucker …Insecurity issues or what? Twice now I have complimented you on your sucesses and you have taken them as dissing. hmmm.. Well, once again Ill say congratulations on your successes in the wat, cabellas, and here on FTR. Kings-X
August 13, 2003 at 1:20 am #273161Hey Bill…That was fun. Even more fun personaly knowing the winner spoonchucker. Hey If you really wanted to make him happy. Send him any kind of first place trophy. He has really been wanting one of those for a long time! WOOPS I should have sent this as a private message. Hey spoonchucker…I have heard the tourney sidebars are rising marbleeyes was actually flashing $$ today saying that this weekend your and my money in his wallet is going to have a much sweeter smell. Congrats bill on incorporating a bit of fun into the site and congrats spoonchucker for the win…Savor this it will not be repeated on saturday. See you on pool 10.
August 7, 2003 at 12:38 am #272733MrMarbleeyes nice to see that you can visit us once in awhile. Probably fishing alot of walleye angler trail tourneys and other walleye tourneys being that you placed 9th in the Cabellas National Championship and were in the money. Hey! Is Spoonchucker still carrying the boat as the REAL MrMarbleeyes in the boat? The last time I talked to you, you said that if it was not for spoonchucker this year, you would have caught very few fish in the tourneys you guys have been in. Does he get a 60/40 split on the winnings since he catches most of the fish? Well as all great teams know you need one good boatsman and one great fisherman to make a great team! Well I had beter go and start studying on walleyes so that one day I may be as great of a fisherman as the spoonchucker. Look who is getting a bit jiggy now. And yes I do need to get my game face on real quick, with spoonchucker in our little tourney….I am a BIT nervous. Hope to hear from you soon. omme
