Cabela’s has started putting some of their portables on sale this week. I bought one last night (12/26/17) that was marked down to $415.99 from $519.99. With gift cards and Cabela’s Club Visa rewards, I spent less than $200 out of pocket.

From the 2010 Regs…
WISCONSIN–MINNESOTA
The seasons and regulations listed below apply to the following waters: Mississippi River (downstream of Prescott, Wisconsin and all waters between the Burlington Northern [Wisconsin] and Chicago Milwaukee [Minnesota] railroad tracks), Lake Pepin, St. Croix River, Lake St.
Croix, St. Louis River, St. Louis Bay, and Superior
Bay.
JJ- at first blush you may appear correct. However, I gotta go with Perch on this one.
The key word here is “AND” . The regs state: “Mississippi River downstream of Prescott, WI “AND” all waters between B-N and C-M RR tracks.”
The fact that MN DNR uses the word “AND” in this regulation means that pool 3 from Prescott, WI up to Hastings train bridge would be border waters.
March 26, 2010 at 5:21 pm #857562I’ve played softball with Perch for years.
If he can stay one step ahead of the Warden, the Warden must be pretty slow…
March 23, 2010 at 1:30 pm #856394Nice pics.
Maybe you should give up on trying to fish and become a photographer.
March 2, 2010 at 2:03 pm #848003I’ll echo the sentiments of many others here…Linda and Bill Eno are top-notch people who run a GREAT place!
Also, if you’re a food junkie like me, you all should know that the food there is fantastic and the hash browns are the best I’ve ever had anywhere. PERIOD!

Antler point restriction!
This is the biggest mistake you could ever make!
other states have done this and yes over time you will shoot more mature bucks! but you are basically managing for smaller deer!
most deer with good genetics will meet the Antler point restriction and therefore be taken out of the herd the first year of there life ! your lesser deer will grow and breed!
I raise deer and I know what it takes to grow big deer! your best yearlings are not the ones to get rid of
GREAT POINT!!!
Simply letting some bucks go will not, in itself, create this magical herd full of nothing but Booners as too many TV-hunting-show-educated hunters believe.
These TV programs always show the guys passing on the bucks that aren’t “shooters”, then later taking a magnificent trophy animal. The bottom line is that the bucks that grow to 150″, 160″, or bigger are trophies because they’re the exception, not the rule.
NOT ALL MALE WHITETAIL FAWNS WILL GROW TO BE BOONE/CROCKETT OR POPE/YOUNG CALIBER, PERIOD!
The last thing we need is MORE government, and politicians making laws concerning wildlife management. When getting involved in wildlife issues, politicians seem to accomplish only one thing…convoluting and confusing the real, biological issue at hand(see Gray Wolves).
Deer hunting is something that hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans hold near and dear. The harvest-worthiness of a deer is something that each individual should be the judge of on his own. I would think bow-hunters and gun-hunters alike would share this perspective. As one of the best things, in my humble opinion, about hunting whitetails is the solitary nature of the sport. It shouldn’t matter whether a guy wants to wait for a Pope/Young caliber deer or drop the first spiker that walks under his stand. It is HIS OWN CHOICE. If a guy wants to take his kid out and help him harvest a forkhorn or spike as the kid’s first deer, SO BE IT.
After all, this is still America…I think.
People would be a helluva a lot better off if they stopped worrying so damn much about “what the other guy is doing”.
Just my $.02 fishbucks.
February 19, 2010 at 2:18 pm #843973Total weight: 31.0
Big fish: 10.3Also, a bold prediction for the event…neither of these numbers will belong to Perch_44. Maybe your partner, but not you, big boy.
February 16, 2010 at 5:54 pm #842965I have a Mag2000 which I think they’ve discontinued and now have a new, improved version available.
I’ve had it about 8 years or so and has punched more than a few holes. Starts great, runs great.
I broke the throttle control shortly after I got it and, as stated my many others here, the customer service at Strikemaster is second to none. They sent out a new one IMMEDIATELY…and free of charge.
Perch_44 bought a new Mako this year and seems to be a nice machine, too. The one feature I really liked about was the big “hoop” handle on the pull start so it’s easy to start when wearing big gloves/mitts. In fact, I liked it so much, I retro-fitted my Strikemaster with a recoil handle off a Polaris snowmobile.
Just my .02 fishbucks.
February 16, 2010 at 3:55 pm #842933Hang in there buddy.
My 10 year old son broke his femur this past fall at football practice. It cost him his deer season, but he’s been out-fishing me all winter. Plus he’s looking forward to trying to hunt down his second gobbler this coming spring.
January 13, 2010 at 8:08 pm #831844Just talked a MN CO about this. Perch_44’s post above is ABSOLUTELY correct!
