Unfortunately PFOS was spread around the globe. No one knows how it spread.

3M voluntarily stopped manufacturing this chemical and gave-up about $300 million in sales.

The good news is levels are extremely low – way, way below any known health effects. 3M workers who worked with this chemical for a long time have shown no ill health affects.
30 years ago you couldn’t even measure the level of PFOS in the bluegills.

Nice fish! I was also out Sunday fishing solo from about 11-3. I caught 4, one about 22″. I caught mine in 17-20’using ringworms. It was good to be in the boat and feeling the thump of a walleye!

Mike, thanks for the info. I followed your reports last year and had a good sauger bite in January in the deep hole. By that time the walleye bite had slowed.

As long as the weather doesn’t get nasty, I’m going to give it a shot this PM. I’ll try vertical jigging first then I might pitch some jigs.

I got out for 2 hours on Sunday from 2:30 – 4:30. Had a hit on the first wing dam and that was it.

Briank, my wife gave me a 1/2 day trip with Steve as a b-day present and I split the guide fee with a colleague. My Mille Lacs trip with Steve was also a b-day present. If you can get the coin (x-mass, b-day presents) its money well spent.

The fish reminded me of tullibee I have caught on Lake of the Woods. One was pretty good size and gave me the best fight of the day and made a couple of short runs. It was very oily and smelly.

    Do Mooneyes get that big?

Any other ideas on what they were?

I thought with the deep water between Stillwater and Prescott there might be some tullibee.

I forgot one other thing. Bombers are much cheaper than Raps.

My son and I had fun last night. We only had our lines wet for 90 minutes (I promised him we would “lock-through” and we did). We each caught 2 walleyes. His biggest was 18″ and mine was 21″. We each caught a sheepshead and he caught a baby SM.

I haven’t tried the 6A but someone in my boat did last week and got a nice, eating-sized walleye. Last night 3 walleyes came on a #7 firetiger Shad Rap and one was on a 5A thatI would call firetiger. People in my boat have also caught walleyes on light colored shad and chartreuse Shad Raps.

I lost 2 Shad Raps last night but I have lightweight Fireline on that reel. One may have been lost to a pike.

Trolling upstream fast seemed to work, 2.5-3.0 mph on a GPS.

I will give the 6A a shot. Thanks.

I have an 8 year old boy who would love to reel in some river eyes but I don’t know if he can handle it.

How do you prevent snagging yet still tick bottom? Fish with one line? I needed to frequently take in some line to prevent snagging when I got too shallow then would let out some more line when I got back to my desired depth. With the steep drop its hard to hold a depth. I still snagged up several times.

Any advice on making a good trolling run with an eight year old?

Does anyone know how to get to the Lilydale ramp? I searched the archives and did not find any directions. Anyone know if it is open?

I have a kitchen pass for this PM. I could go to the 494 ramp but S. St. Paul has been slow (although I haven’t fished it in a few weeks) for me and from reports it sounds like it remains slow.

Well, I guess it wasn’t just me. Two of us caught 2 walleyes, 2 white bass and one smallie Sunday afternoon in the wind.

What gives? Last year the walleyes were stacked-up by the airport and were active. I thought it would be loaded with 15-18″ walleyes. This year they seem hard to come by during the day.

Looks like I need to spend the extra time and drive to Redwing

Thanks for the timely info. I passed on Friday due to the wind and cold, but I’ll be out there this PM (Sunday).

We had a great bite from 2:30 – 4:00 on Sunday at the airport on a jig and a minnow with a 3″ stinger hook. They were biting short and light. No size (mostly 13-15″) but it was fun. It was great listening to the Vikes win and then some Christmas music.

With pool 2 catch and release only, will all of the 13-15″ walleyes be 15-17″ walleyes next fall?

Thanks for the reports. I’m planning to head out this afternoon. I hope I don’t hear “come back tomorrow ’cause they were biting yesterday”

Thanks for all your help everyone. I had a great bite Friday afternoon from 3-5 PM at the St. Paul airport. Not much size with most at 14″ and one 17″ sauger. Orange jig with a yellow grub body tipped with a minnow. This was only the thrid or fourth time on pool 2 and the first time I caught some fish.
