I didn’t make it to the end either. Did remind me of a Yogiism though. Yogi said I better go to their funeral or they might not come to mine.
February 24, 2009 at 3:12 pm #751881Three areas come to mind French Slough, think that’s the right name, it’s at the end of Spillway Dr on French Island, or you could try Lauderdale or maybe the best bet would be Lake Onalaska. Good Luck
February 12, 2009 at 7:06 pm #747680One vehicle is on the bottom one was driven off the ice this morning according to the newsman at the Onalaska lookout.
February 12, 2009 at 7:02 pm #747678Sorry if I disappoint you but I have nothing but good to say about any and all wardens I have come in contact with. The only violations we have had is unsigned stamps and the warden just had them sign them no tickets. I wish there was some way we could help them. I know one guy who taught his sons not to talk to the DNR, he always said for example what is the limit on turkeys? As many as you can shoot. What is the limit on turkeys if the DNR is around One! Yeah he was and is a loser. Kind of guy they need to catch.
February 11, 2009 at 1:33 am #746992Back in the 60s and 70s we ate everything, bass whatever, we lived from pay day to pay day and meat on the table was important. I never filletted any fish and then when I started to fillet bass, in California at the time, I found those little buggers. Yeah they won’t hurt you if you cook them but I filleted everything after that. Lots of gills around here with those little monsters in them.
February 10, 2009 at 9:40 pm #746919Well actually the resort cleans the fish for us but before we’ve fried them I haven’t noticed any. And we ate 60 the first day and they looked ok. I’m familiar with what you’re talking about so I’ll inspect the ones I brought home. As far as the pout we caught two.
February 1, 2009 at 5:45 pm #743413I think you definately see more close fishing on the ice than open water fishing. I grew up in Lansing and the people were really friendly and we just went to the community holes and visited and fished together maybe 20 or 30 people. I know what you mean I had some guys from Milwaukee move right next to us on Lauderdale a while back and I even made a staement hey it’s a big river aren’t you kind of close. They didn’t care. Didn’t bother me, now if we were in a boat itwould really bother me.
January 30, 2009 at 4:41 pm #742954Strangest thing I ever saw was in Iowa we were pheasant hunting years ago and we went under this bridge and here was like a bucket full of blue gills somebody must have dumped them off the bridge. Why?????????????? If you go to the Spillway Dr. be careful not to step in the dog crap.
January 28, 2009 at 1:19 am #742151My wife asked me what I was going to do today I said “Nothing”
She said didn’t you do nothing yesterday?
I said “Yes but I wasn’t finished”January 27, 2009 at 5:49 pm #741962Looks like 2/3rds of the people like the Ratsos, Shrimpos, Diamond, or Gill Pill. The diamond was most popular with 6 but the Gill Pill and Ratso each had 5 an dthe shrimpos had 4 so I would say any of those 4 should get one started. Thanks for participating was interesting.
January 27, 2009 at 3:19 am #741773Eisert gets my vote for the best story. I can honestly say through all the years I’ve only lost a ice scoop, that was when my tent blew over and spilled the scoop in the hole, but I’ve seen two pair of glasses go in and remarkably both were retrieved, saw two poles go in, 1 pole holder, a poor guys entire jig box ouch that had to hurt. A couple of wet feet and yeah there was a hole drilled in Lake Neshonoc that would take a kid if they happened into it. But never did thank God. Didn’t you know that each hole has a magnet under it.
January 27, 2009 at 12:13 am #741656hmmm now to get back to why I wanted to do this thanks for the help boys
January 26, 2009 at 11:43 pm #741645There is nothing more powerful than prayer

St Peregrine is the patron saint of cancer he helped me and you believe, other wise you wouldn’t have asked for the prayers. God Bless you and your family.January 26, 2009 at 10:26 pm #741616Vexilar is great used mine next to a Marcum LX5 no problem mine is a SL8
January 26, 2009 at 3:32 pm #741396It doesn’t take much my buddy picked his strikemaster up to cut another hole and it wouldn’t do anything. It was just a matter of ice on the blades. Once it was cleaned off it cut like through butter.
January 26, 2009 at 3:11 pm #741392wow long post. This cold weather will do bad things to garage door openers, mine simply needed more wd40. Then one day a wheel popped out and had to put that back on track. Be nice if that was all yours needed. Check the pully wheels for worn out bearings too. Lightning took out my sensors last summer. Good Luck
January 21, 2009 at 11:37 pm #740039I’ve had mine for two years now and the only thing I’ve noticed is when you get down to the last ice it wants to hang up a bit. It’s not a problem you just back off and go again, sometimes it’s been hard to break through My buddy has a power strikemaster and his goes right through, more power I guess. The other day it ran out of power after about 12 holes but we were about done anyway. I put it on the charger until I get the green light and then I take it off. Anybody know if it’s ok to leave it on after it’s been charged? I heard you should not over charge.
January 20, 2009 at 8:27 pm #739520I was in D.C. with the Freedom Honor Flight in October and I was thinking of Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt and wondering when we would get a real leader like one of them. I’m actually praying that Obama will be that guy. Whether he becomes great or not I agree this is a great time for our country it has been needed for a long time maybe now we will reunite as one and become the country we should be. But I think it will take all of us treating our neighbors as ourselves type of thing. God Bless The USA!!
January 19, 2009 at 7:12 pm #739043drakes demise I wish you would change your icon a bunch of dead mallards hanging in a tree is not cool
January 8, 2009 at 5:57 pm #735336Too busy pulling people over for cracked windshields and burnt out license plate lights.
Thieves don’t pay their fines, working people do.
Makes me think of Lacrosse, two of my good neighbors got parking tickets for alternate street parking violations and New Years morning a drunk buried his van in the snow bank at 330 and has to leave it until noon. He doesn’t get a ticket even though he’s on the wrong side. I don’t know after watching him stagger around and not be able to get out of his mess he already received his punishment. Cold that morning too.
January 4, 2009 at 3:17 pm #733809It’s not just on the ice, go to the parks or anywhere people just don’t have any respect for others. Here’s a good example, a lady has two dogs she walks and uses the kids playground at Roosevelt as her pown personal dog park. Can you imagine the kids playing in her dogs crap? Don’t get me started. What I do is I approach the kids, they’re our only hope, and I pick up setting an example.
January 4, 2009 at 3:01 am #733710One of our guys lost his prescription glasses on Leech Lake 15 fow. With a camera, a gaff, long arm and heavey lure we got them back, then another guy drops his prescription glasses in at Green Lake (Blackhawk Park) goes home and gets some garden tools. Only about 3 feet of water but he can’t locate them. A kid comes along and asks to use the tools to retrieve his dads ice scoop. The kids successful so we ask him to try for the glasses and he gets them out too. What are the odds.
January 2, 2009 at 4:01 pm #733300John, that is the sole job of gandpas, making memories with their grandkids. My 6 year old caught a 4 lb 14 oz smallie off a bed some springs ago and after insisting we keep him he changed his mind and said grandpa that fish has lots of eggs in her we better let her go. He’s turning 9 now.
September 11, 2008 at 11:37 am #710932Happy Birthday Mary! I suppose to celebrate you’ll go out and catch a bunch of fish. Many many more!
