Now that’s a bit different than everyone else’s Skeeter.
Where and what are you fishing with that beautiful rig?

Fishing in Jacksonville, FL for redfish, trout, flounder and perhaps some near shore fishing in the ocean. I have only lived here a year.

Grew up in MN fishing Mille Lacs……

Could it be the Nushagak River? When I was there we caught all of our fish either on trolled plugs or what they call “boondogging.” All that was essentially a weight, giant spin and glow, and a big hook with salmon roe. Our best day was a 100+ kings for five people and not a one was snagged.

If you want the captains side, here it is.
The guy who yelled at you off the end of the boat was not the captain. I was the captain of that boat Saturday night, and as I came to anchor up on the spot, a boat was trolling down the reef, far enough away for me to not know exactly which way he was going. As the anchor was dropped, I put the boat into neutral as soon as I could to wait for the other boat to go by, instead of them proceeding to keep going, they stalled behind us almost causing a collision. . As a large launch boat, we use a lot of anchor rope, we can not read anyones mind who is trolling those reefs, so next time you get cut off, instead of driving staight at the other boat who accidentally cuts you off, go around them.
I appoligize for this situation. I have spent many hours on Mille Lacs on that boat and have never come across anyone who acted in the way that you did. As soon as I noticed you coming at our boat, I went into neutral to prevent a collision, it would have been nice if you could have done something to prevent it as well.

I appreciate the apology….sort of. Who was the guy who ran to the back of the boat screaming for us to “Get the f*** out of here?” Was he working on the boat?

Keep in mind Randee that we did not stall as you said. We maintained our trolling speed. Appreciate that other boats also cannot read a boat launch captains mind and know that they are going to drop anchor and power reverse into us. I am sure you would not appreciate another boat pulling in front of you while you are under power and dropping anchor.

Good luck on the rest of your season.

The launch was Hunter Winfield’s. Funny this is my 82 old Grandpa was in the boat, and said “If I was fifty years younger I would swim over to the launch and teach that young man some manners.”

I don’t get a chance to fish the lake much anymore since I moved to NE. If I was up there every weekend like in all my previous years I would go visit the owner in person and tell them what happened.

Should have called one of these…. probably Mike or Dan depending on SW or SE….sounds like you had plenty of witnesses…

    Greg Verkuilen 320-692-5777 Garrison

    Dan Perron 320-495-3961 Onamia

    Luke Croat 320-927-6453 Wealthwood

These are the five Conservation Officers on Mille Lac’s Lake Area.

BTW. I would get used to getting anchored on in your troll path….. If your trolling a quarter mile, I may even some day cross your path…. especially if the fish are there…

I don’t mind when someone anchors up on a hump that I have been fishing. If he had waited thirty seconds, or let the wind take him back versus the power back up, we would have been clear. I just don’t like taking evasive action to avoid getting hit when we were putting along at 1.8 mph. Nor do I appreciate being sweared at. This is the first time in twenty years that I have ever encountered a rude launch on Mille Lacs.

I have owned one for two years and love the thing. Best ribs, pork butts, etc I have ever had. I even do my steaks and burgers on it now. Got rid of my gas grill.

The amount of ash is minimal when you use food grade pellets.

Thanks for the responses. I will have them replace it. Is there a sealer I should apply to the exterior concrete? Builder recommended something called Acryl Pen. I had never heard of it.

Where are you going in Costa Rica? I fished in Golfito last winter with a fabulous captain. We were catching a dozen sails a day on a flyrod. Let me know if you want contact info.

    Congratulations on the weddding!

It could be a lake ID tag. Some versions of the software show it.

How often should tires be replaced? The tire that had the tread peel off was about three years old. It had plenty of tread and even wear.

Maybe it was just the heat. It happened coming back from Rainy on a 95° F day.

215/75R14’s. I currently have load range ‘C’ Marathons. I had the tread peal off one tire the last time I trailered. I asked about load range d tires, but would apparently have to go to a 15″ rim.

I caught one over 31″ last fall on Mille Lacs. Unfortunately I have had 28″ fish that have weighed just as much. She weighed just a little over nine pounds.

Saturday the bite was fair to decent. Most of the smallies are post spawn right now and transitioning to their normal summer haunts. A few fish can still be found on the beds. With the major bug hatch, lots of fish can be seen picking fish flies off of the surface but the topwater bite for me has been non-existent. We were catching “roamers” throwing soft plastics to the rock piles and working the baits real slow. We spent a lot of time searching for areas that held fish, but when we caught one there was an entire school with it.

On another note, we did see a guy “well” about an eighteen incher, and he mentioned he had been catching them the last weeks drifting with leeches. After we explained the rules he shrugged us off and went back to fishing. We called TIP but no one showed after an hour. This is my third call to TIP in the last year. Just once I would like to see someone show up and fine people keeping smallies.

An oil change on a 4 stroke will run you around $85 and lower unit gear oil replace $25 per year. That would be around $330 for 3 years. A etec will need no maintenance for the first 3 years.

The power of the etec is like no other. The hole shot and accelleration will inpress you. I know that my etec being a 225HO is super smooth and extremely quiet.

How did you arrive at $85 for an oil change and $25 to change the lower unit oil? I spend roughly $25 to change the oil and filter, and $10 to put in synthetic lower unit lube.

I have fished with K-Bay Charters out of Homer. We caught about twenty halibut in the one day of fishing, biggest being about a hundred and fifty pounds. We were recommended to fish with them by a guy who runs a salmon camp in Alaska, and I was truly impressed.

I thought that was a possibility too, but then I don’t understand why it wouldn’t happen as soon as I got it on plane running full throttle.

I bought the Dueler A/T Revo’s and so far love the tire. They are quiet, look nice, and handle well in the snow and mud. I searched high and low (including the internet) for the best price and wound up at Wright Tire off Hwy. 10 in Anoka next to McDonald’s.

You should be upset with Cabela’s not Loomis, since they have had the same policy for well over two years. Cabela’s gave you bad information apparently.

I fished from about 7:30 until 11 and wound up with five keepers. Dropped a couple more fish half way to boat. My eyelids were plenty heavy by the time I cleaned fish and drove home. Hopefully this weekend the action picks up a little.

    Trina,

The bite in my experience will likely be mostly topwater and soft plastics. Any number of plastics work well, inlcuding tubes, flukes, and Senkos. The only times I have found to have good success w/ cranks has been in spring or fall.

I would probably be in. I am up there chasing smallies just about every weekend anyway.
