It was a hot week on Winnie, at least starting last Tuesday through Friday. Saturday was much slower as the weather took a turn for the worse. Water temps dipped a couple of degrees. We were seeing 53-54 (surface temps) most of the week. Saturday was 49-50. With a cold rain in the morning and stiff winds from the E/NE, it made things tougher. Still caught fish. Many perch and some walleye.
The best part of the trip was the fact that for the first four days we caught our fish mainly on plastics. No bait! Very agressive! North Shore (Farley Creek, Dugouts), Ravens and Tamarack were the best areas. Mostly in 9-12 but by Saturday mainly from 12-14.
Looking forward to next year already. If the bite gets better with the warmer temps, look out!

I was out there also on Sunday for a bit. I agree whole heartedly on the ‘could use more ice’ statement.
Los Lojos, glad to hear you stuck with it and iced a few. I was just not comfortable with the ice. Maybe give it another week?
My friend and I went further north and fished some holes for eyes and found better ice (6-10 inches). Only brought 4 up the hole and only one sauger made the trip home.
I’ll be back up this weekend.

Len, I was one of the guys in for chili around 1. Have you gotten much snow from last night til tonight?

I made it up below the dam yesterday. For fishing below a dam, the ice was a bit too thin for my taste. Only two other guys out (one in a hover craft). My buddy and I walked on. Going around the first bullnose the ice is thin (2 inches) Once past that there was only 3-4 inches at best. The ice was rough due to ice chunks freezing togther. Only fished for about 20 minutes before deciding to go to safe ice elsewhere. Fishing was slow to say the least. Saw two fish caught both under 12 inches.
