You can “connect them” using an adapter, but that doesn’t mean it will work. The interfaces are very different, with very different ways of working.

HDMI is a streaming video interface. It is a digital version of the analog cable that used to be used for broadcast. It expects a signal with 60 frames per second, each frame consisting of a square array of pixels.

A USB stick is just a storage device just like a hard disc (or like a dvd). It doesn’t do anything of its own accord. It stores files and needs a computer to read and write them. Some of those files may be video in MPEG format which need to be decoded into pixels to play them.

So what you need is a small computer to read the files, decode them, and output them. If a TV has a USB socket, it has such a computer inside it. You will need to find a gadget with such a computer. That might be a satellite receiver or a DVD player.

I’m not saying you should not try the adapter, as I am not familiar with how the ice house interface works with the monitor/tv screen. Every system will have its own quirks.

I have tried this very thing in the past. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it does not. It simply depends upon where the “little computing device” exists between your USB storage and the screen.

Full Disclosure: I am not an electronics expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

    Chris,

What an AWESOME three days. You worked your tail off for me and Glenn, and we really appreciate it! You definitely have us hooked on this late March bite. I love fishing in a ball cap with sunglasses and not really needing gloves or coats or hats until the ride back to the truck. What a blast.

The combination of those big daytime crappies plus some sunset walleyes just can’t be beat. I’m sorry this trip had to end, but we’re already looking forward to next year to do it all over again. Glad we booked early. It’s already on my calendar.

    Great job Chris!

    See you next March!

    Gary
