I used a Spro frog today and it was ruined after the first fish. The 5/8 or 1/2 oz Scum Frog is a far better deal and works great.

I wouldn’t recommend 12 pound mono for fishing slop. I use 20 to 30 pound Fireline or Power Pro with a Med/Heavy baitcaster. I have no drag, it is wrenched as tight as it can go.

You have it correct, you should wait to feel the fish before setting the hook, no counting or other trickery. The only other point is that sometimes the fish slams it and moves toward you, so if the frog is gone then reel as fast as you can and set on load.

You need to pound that hookset, I think 12 pound mono would snap on nearly all of my hooksets. The strech in the line alone would limit a successful hookup percentage.

    James,

I decided to read the article after seeing your little icon.

Why did you conclude that the tournament caught bass, which were penned up, did not have their fins clipped? I read the article and this paragraph below and my understanding is that 50 tournament caught bass ( implying clipped fins ) were penned up. Where does it say the penned fish did not have clipped fins? Were the dead bass all collected before these penned up fish were finally released?

    Quote:

The agency put about 100 fish a day in 8-by-8-foot holding pens near Northern States Power Co. on the Black River. An equal number of tournament-caught fish and fish the agency culled from the wild using electroshocking were kept there for a side-by-side comparison.

We saw some really big bass at the Fishers of Men weigh-in. Two 5 fish limits weighed over 16 pounds. Rather impressive under some tough fishing conditions, cold front with East winds 25 to 30 mph.

The lakes are loaded with bass…

I have the same issue with my Minnkota Pro 80. I am concerned that loud of a ticking noise could affect the fish. It must be resonating through the shaft or something.

I am going to adjust my ping speed, thanks for the idea…

    The concept is flawed.

If the egg consumption doesn’t change then the supply surplus or shortage won’t change, it doesn’t matter if you frequently buy a little or rarely buy a large amount.

The price will go down if you reduce the demand or increase the supply.

Ike is a spaz. Forgetting to run the livewells is a rookie mistake.

As far as the light pole incident… He was, and should have, been DQ’d on that alone. No other sport would allow such childishness – not basketball, golf, football, etc.

What really bothers me is that he disrespected the US Flag. He shouldn’t be allowed to have one on his boat if that is how he is going to treat it.

Do you suppose those guys are gonna get screwed out of their opportunity now that the Federation is leaving BASS?

That doesn’t work. Like PierBridge stated, the data’s encryption is tied to the chip. Probably using some globally unique identifier in the chip as the key.

I have searched for utilities that would allow me to make a personal backup but I have not had any success.

Those stupid chips really are secure.

I don’t know if you are thinking about Smallmouth or Largemouth, but I consider a 19″ Largemouth is about 4 pounds and a 20″ Largemouth is about 5 pounds.

There is quite a difference between catching a limit of quality fish on a quiet Tuesday and catching a limit of quality fish on a Saturday during a 200 boat tournament.

The number of fish that can be brought to a weigh-in will influence the average size bass needed to win. In a 5 fish tournament, you probably need 3 to 3.5 pounds to win or place really high. In an 8 fish tournament you will likely be in the money with a 2.5 pound average.

I think Alvin Mack’s suggested a good rod. I would pair that with a Quantum PTi 20 reel, maybe a PTi 30 but that starts to become a big reel.

I use heavy line fishing around heavy cover, so I use 20# Power-Pro or 20# Fireline and crank the drag down completely.

Nice fish, but 1 inch is not safe ice and neither is two, especially with any current.

Although Lake Elmo is a late freezing lake, it is still 50% open water. Steaming like crazy… makes for some very cool looking trees.

Sounds like you already have access to a flasher so your team definitely needs a camera. Use your flasher to find structure and use your new camera to catch fish. You won’t be able to just shut off the flasher once you find the right structure. You will need it to determine where in the water column the fish are. If you are fishing for suspended Crappies, 20 feet down over 55 feet, you can use the flasher to set the depth of your camera. However, you really need both because it is very tough to fish not knowing where your tiny little jig is. Without the flasher you will be asking yourself is the camera facing the right direction? Did my jig already go past the field of view? etc. Not as big of a problem when bottom fishing and you have landmarks.

Cameras don’t work on Lake of the Woods by Baudette and they don’t work very effectively on Upper Red. Get on lakes like Mille Lacs or Winnie and get ready for some really cool visual stimulation! Nothing like seeing a herd of jumbos crawling over subtle mounds right toward your helpless fathead…

I have used the camera to watch my tip-up offerings when the panfish are pounding the waxies. Very cool to see a big Pike come up to a giant sucker and “nudge” it several times, while you and the guys are yelling “TAKE IT!” ( it didn’t )

Upgrading… I guess. I am going to buy a Ranger Z next year. I like my Triton a lot but I don’t like the limited choices of dealers to work with.

I think we are on the same page about the reels. All the top reels are great, it mostly comes down to what each person is use to using and good/bad experiences with them.

That is interesting, one of the reasons I want to get rid of the Curado SF is because the drag cannot get tight enough…

I like Quantum products. My fishing partner convinced my wife to buy me a Curado SF for my birthday, I am planning on giving it to him next spring.

I have used the Ti600, Accurist 500, 640PT, and the Bass Pro Shops – Kevin Van Dam series. Of these, I like the Kevin Van Dam series best. Not because it has a KVD signature on it, but because they cost less than both the 500 and 640 and because of the extra bearing it has over the 500. For overall performance the 640 is very sweet but comes with a big price tag. I am going to get 2 640 PT’s if they go on sale for $70 at Cabelas again.

I am no network guru or even novice, however, I don’t see how you can accomplish this at all. Here is why:

You need to connect to a database on system 10.0.0.133. 10.0.0.133 can exist in both networks, which system are you really trying to connect with? You might find system 10.0.0.133 “locally” but need to communicate with the 10.0.0.133 on the remote lan.

I think your solution will need to control the IP address scheme for this to work.

The variety is pretty awesome. My brother-in-law and I caught 11 species in one day last year.

I wonder when they will report the 90 page analysis of the next-in-line to the current record fish, and then the one after that and so on…

I have always hated special interest groups getting record fish disqualified decades after the fish has been recognized as a record. I say once a fish is accepted then it stands regardless of today or future opinions.

By the way, from the photos I saw, that new state record largemouth had a very small mouth for a 9 pound fish….
