Truth be told, PJ’s a little predisposed. He kept asking when the walleyes were going to start biting.
It was a super fun afternoon though. I loved watching him mimic his daddy’s actions. I can’t wait to get him out again.
The recipe Kris was talking is really good – most people who didn’t know would think it was beef, and the actual recipe is below if you’re interested. I personally put several breasts in (8 is all that will fit in my crock pot), and then freeze it in one pound packages to thaw for dinner whenever we want it.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons butter
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small yellow onion, sliced
1 goose breast
1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 cups chicken broth
Melt butter in a large saucepan and saute garlic and onion. Add goose breast and brown on both sides.
Place goose breast in slow cooker and add Worcestershire sauce. Add chicken broth to cover and cook on High setting for 6 to 8 hours, or until meat falls apart. Shred with a fork and mix with your favorite barbecue sauce.
Oooh – I just made a huge batch of Goose BBQ the other day – separated it into 5 meals and foodsaved them. It freezes and rewarms so well!! Plus we had some of it that night – YUMMY!! Okay, so the recipe is below:
2 tablespoons butter
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small yellow onion, sliced
2 goose breasts
1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 cups chicken broth
DIRECTIONS
Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and onion and saute for 5 minutes. Add goose breast and brown on both sides for about 5 minutes, or until browned.
Place goose breast in slow cooker and add Worcestershire sauce. Add chicken broth to cover (approximately 2 cups) and cook on High setting for 6 to 8 hours, or until meat breaks apart easily. Shred with a fork and mix with your favorite barbecue sauce.
I don’t have an opinion of your specific hunting strategy, nor would I share it if I did, just to argue.
I did have an opinion of your arguing strategy though, and that I did state. Deliberate personal attacks are uncalled for, unfair, and I believe even against the rules.
Carry on…..
While rather extreme, that comment was more a reflection of his opinion of your hunting strategy (exaggerated for the sake of his argument) than a deliberate personal attack.

Or maybe you already have, what’s your PETA membership # anyway?
Completely uncalled for.
No, we’d practice catch and release. It’s a benefit that fishing provides. Hunting, however, doesn’t provide that same priviledge. Once you shoot, there is no release option. If for some reason Buck and I all of the sudden couldn’t eat geese, then yes, we would have to quit hunting them. I’m simply not going to shoot something that I won’t make use of. That’s why we don’t choose to hunt every moving creature…. I tried squirrel once…. just didn’t quite acquire a taste for it. I too grew up with the philosophy that if you aren’t going to eat it, don’t shoot it. If my brothers shot it, they ate it…. and they choked down some very nasty meat before they decided to shoot wisely.
I grew up deer hunting, and I know the thrill of sitting in the woods, waiting for the sound of one coming down the trail. I know what it’s like to drop one and I know what it’s like to trail one. I understand the excitement of hunting – whether deer, duck or goose.
I guess I just have to wonder what your goal is as a hunter. Are you only out for a trophy? Because it really sounds as if some of you are….. even as Whatsa talks about improving the genes, I hear the need for a wall hanger, a world record, a big rack. It’s not about the meat….. it’s about the trophy. If you’re looking for a trophy, sit in the woods quietly, wait for it to arrive and take a picture…. let it pass by to be pictured again…. just like we advocate for trophy walleye and bass. If it’s about shooting a gun and hitting a target, well then set up a decoy and shoot away. If it’s about the meat….well, a doe tastes better than some seasoned old buck anyday. And if it’s truly solely about re-balancing the herd, then best not shoot any bucks at all.
Yes, you guys are top notch, and I had a blast!!! Good eats, great poker and super fun hunting!!
Thanks so much again!!

You will still peel. The damage is done. I get similar results from pure aloe and have been using it for years.
No you won’t – I have been using the vinegar cure since I can remember. My mom would apply it as I was in sprint ready mode – it burns like crazy when you put it on, but it removes the sting and you won’t peel. You do have to catch it as soon as possible after you burn though – you can’t apply it the next day and expect it to work.
A story to back it up – one time I burned my face – applied vinegar to everything but my forehead (not sure why – just missed it for some reason), and the only thing that peeled was my forehead. True story, and I’ve been trying to tell Buckshot since I met him that this is the way to go…. he however has an aversion to smelling like vinegar. Me?? I have an aversion to being miserable for a couple of days and looking like a molting snake for the next several.
And, the yet to be finished (but will be before closing) Jacuzzi bathroom!
Half of the downstairs family room – wired with speakers for surround sound…. that’s a gas fireplace.
The extra shed…. perfect for sleds, icehouses, mowers, and any extra fishing gear!!

Yes she fished extremly well. I have said for all the last three I wanted her as a co-angler. She can truly fish. I do have to credit my self for “alowing” her to catch her two biggest walleys to date, 26 1/2″ and a 29 1/2″ . buckshot better step up or he is going to loose his fishing partner . I wonder if she is still going to be sick .
Thanks Sticky….. and thanks for putting me on the big ones!
No offense though, but Buckshot’s my fishing partner for life…. fish or no fish. He’s put me on plenty of fish the past two years, and without him, not only would I not know what it was like to catch a walleye, but I would never have had the opportunity to fish tournaments and meet so many awesome fishermen. There’s no chance he’ll be losing me any time soon (much to his chagrin I’m sure).
And don’t tease – I almost re-upholstered the inside of your precious Ranger when that fish came up over the rails.
Either way, thanks for a fun day on the river. You were a great boater to draw, and I appreciate the thoughtful, patient and respectful way you treated your co-angler.
Congrats Don!! Stickboy was polite enough not to mention that I lost a nice one early in the day – had I brought that one in, we still wouldn’t have caught up with you, but we’d have been a little closer.
Thanks Gary!!
A player is only as good as her coach though…. I didn’t fish walleye before I met Buckshot.
