I love my fly reels…excellent drag and no line twist with minimal coils. I use them in shallow lakes of 6′ or less. I can definitely see if on water of 15′ or more they could be somewhat of a pain tho. It does get interesting when ya hook up on 5lb bass in 4fow and reeds and weeds around!

Glad ya got your 6061 back in business. On a side note…has anybody tried this reel using a pencil/pistol grip? I handled a EC and the exposed spool on the right side interferes with the ability reel and let line out since rubs on the heel of my palm. I also have the same issue with the BB I got. Near as I can tell from pics and posts the EC and 6061 are very similar. I did contact Matt at 13 fishing inregards to the BB and he said they are aware of the issue. I suggested a replacement part for the line guide that would have another arm to come off the backside to support ones palm…he said that is exactly what they are in the process of fabricating. They are a proactive company with great customer service.

For tightlining Asso heavy in yellow works well…its a florocarbon that is as good any out there. 3lb pline floroice is an excellent choice as well. When I’m using a clear line n tightlining I like to put an orange bobber stopper on my line as a sight indicator, position it a few inches below the surface when at ur desired depth.

I got a pair of Irish Setter snow claw xt’s with the zipper for this year…obviously haven’t got to put em to the test yet but appear to very nice boots. I have a pair muck artic pros but they don’t keep my feet warm when gets in the single digits.

Thanks for the reply and pics! Looks like the ML is the way to go.

the trip wire I got last year is on panfish sweetheart and this year I put one on a quiverstick and the other on a panfish sweetheart 36″ for hole hopping. So I guess you have another decision as far as what blank to go with. The quiverstick is a little lighter than the panny. Also I would compare the new 3″ ml wire very similar to the first few inches of a power noodle.

Here are some pics that might help

last years version with 2″ ml

    5mm

    4mm

this years version ml now with 3″ wire

    5mm

    4mm

Lonnie said they now use different gauge wire where I think last year they just changed the length. I like last years version for smaller nontungsten jigs and the new version should work great 5mm or similar weight jigs.

I’m partial to 3lb pline floroice and asso heavy 2 and 3 lb. I tried nanofil last year in 2/3/4 lb…the 2 lb I think is junk cause breaks way to easy due to fraying. The 3lb is pretty good and the 4lb is good but does retain some memory. If tying a leader to nanofil make certain it is a perfect knot.
