Never too many. Every winter I become bored and buy a lot of ammo and add a few guns to the collection as well. Since getting a CC permit a couple years ago pistols and holsters have become a favorite thing to buy

DNR also states it “hears” the complaints.

What bassakwards said is right. Also in Rochester last year at the sports/hunting/fishing show there was seminars on it as well. If you research this I’m sure they’ll be doing it again at the Mayo civic center in rochester this winter

For the record I now can and have passed on small bucks. I like to think that comes with maturity….
But its is a very personal decision that I like to be my own. Right now my gripe is handing out more doe permits so guys have meat to shoot. Now there are no does. I am opening up more and more to this discussion. I am ready for a change that increases the overall herd.

I couldn’t agree more, I think 1 deer per person statewide is plenty for awhile. I’m convinced all of these areas with 2-5 deer allowed was won over by lobbyist and I can assure you that in a couple areas I’ve hunted for years and years, the deer are thined down hugely. The nice bucks are still in these areas but its getting to be a bit more slim pickings on them too

Young meat better than old meat. Same with cattle and chickens.

If you hunt strictly for meat for the freezer I’ve got a better idea. Sell all the equipment and work a part time job with all the extra time you’d have not hunting. Financially you’d be much farther ahead. LOL

I keep seeing the question written, ” How does letting a 1.5 yr old walk only to get shot the next year help grow big bucks.?” My answer to that would be that each year a buck lives his survival instinct is multiplying. So sure, many of the 2.5’s get shot and thats ok but I’m sure a percentage of them are living on to be 3.5 and beyond because of the free pass they may have been given with APR.

The statement you saws here from me was how does letting a 1.5 yr old deer walk help the overall health of the deer herd. I have no problem seeing how it helps to to grow bigger racked deer. It keeps getting posted that APR is not a trophy deer tool. but almost everyone who is in Favor of it says that the reason they are in favor of it is for just that purpose. If the reason you are for it is bigger racked buck – Just say so. there is not reason to try and hide the fact behind other poor reasons. Several people have finally came clean in this post on that fact. Thats Great. I now understand their reason for being in favor for it.

I’m not hiding from anything, lol. I’m in favor of APR so people that like to hunt large rack bucks have a better chance at that just like you apparently want to shoot whatever walks by first. To each their own.

Yes. I have many, many discussions a year with my Dad about not shooting those 90-100 inch 4×4’s. He always says well, if we don’t the neighbors might. My only argument is there is one guarantee, if we shoot that deer, it will never get bigger. We want trophies but breaking that old school mentality is a tough nut to crack.

Thats right, as long as this tradition continues things won’t change much. I think its an easy excuse is all.

I think most would agrre the deer herds are down in this region, MN, WI, IA, etc. Almost everyone is saying they saw less deer. Hopefully the DNR will dial back the limits to 1 deer per person every where for awhile until this straightens out. In SE MN the limits have been pretty liberal for years now and it sure shows.

I have always wondered why many people hold out to shoot a little buck (1-2) year old if all they are interested in is meat hunting. I think there is some old old mentality that has been around for ages about “getting a buck”, no matter the size. Am I right or wrong about that?

A poll should be started to see what reasons we all here on this little site hunt for the fun of it.

I like APR and hope it continues. Maybe it isn’t able to be implemented in other parts of the state or maybe it is, I’m not sure about that part. I keep seeing the question written, ” How does letting a 1.5 yr old walk only to get shot the next year help grow big bucks.?” My answer to that would be that each year a buck lives his survival instinct is multiplying. Nice Buck! 23″ is crazy! Full body mount or shoulder mount? Either would be good.

7:1 or 6.3:1. Doesn’t much matter between those two. What matters is the weight of the jig. It’d be better to use a heavier jig to reach deeper depths than to slow the retrieve down. Speed can and usually does trigger more bites.

I count on my bonus money as part of my salary. I just recieved it for 2012 and since its considered commision or bonus I am taxed at a differnt rate. 48%
HALF of the money is tax. HALF!!!! I work my butt off and they take half of it away. The reality of this countries troubles just hit me like a brick. We are in trouble.

Speak to your accountant if you have one but as others have eluded to I believe its just an over inflated rate of tax because that bonus is a much larger sum of money in two weeks than you are usually making, so in turn the rate has to be adjusted up to assume you make that much year around( but only on those amounts above normal) So in the end it all works out and if you add up all of your yearly earnings it puts you into a bracket and things are adjusted back to the yearly earnings total. So basically you get back most of what was taxed over your standard tax rate(28%-?)

I’d be shocked if 50 people went to a game to specifically see Mauer. He is just an average “Joe” with a “good eye”. People go to see there team win and the experience. The Twins management sucks. They are talking about starting to dismantle the team to get whatever they can out of any of the decent sluggers we have now!

Your last sentence tells me you don’t follow the Twins closely so I’ll ignore your first sentence.

I do follow them, and you know what I mean.

As a rule they don’t bother me. I’m more upset at the complete waste of money that is being dumped into this. At Verchota landing on pool 5a this last friday there was 3, yes 3 paid staff at this ramp. They had two state vehicles sitting there. As I pulled up I man came over to talk while the other two keep reading there books and never even hardly glanced over. Mind you, this ramp is a one at a time ramp. If this is happening up and down the river and all over the state one can only guess how much money is being poured down the drain. And frankly whats done is done. Nature will take its course and spread all of these exotics around, boats only do it faster.

Bad blood from the last time BASS was there…McKinnis has been around from the beginning and prolly won’t forget.

It’s bad enough that for the Elite Event in LAX that MN isn’t allowing culling on “their side” of the River. Just another reason to avoid MN.

Can you clarify what this means and what “MN side of the river is”
Is it the centerline of the channel?

Do you get the smae amount of money for the hides whether you shot them or trapped them? With or with out the bullet hole you could say? Sounds like you got pretty good dough for those. A friend just sold a bunch of his and they averaged $12.50 a piece here in SE MN
