I very rarely tie a leader on, only when fishing very early in the year when the water is very clear. Otherwise I tie straight to the jig and hit the bottom 2′ of line with a black sharpie (I use yellow and lime green braid).

    You’ll love the 832.

I like that idea. So it’s safe to assume the ink does not damage the line in any way. Great idea.

LenH you need to write a book because that is the funniest story I have read in a long long time… and career solved. Thanks for making me laugh.

I need to work on my “fish posing”. Those are terrific pictures.

When I take a pee I usually comment, “This usually triggers a bite.” Never fails.
Come to think of it, seems to work for just about any distraction.

I could sleep with the best of them. Come to think of it, I’m still pretty good at it.

uhhhh, if ya doan wanna look like a furner … it’s the “Hi-Line”

and yes, it is a phenomenal place … mostly because of phenomenal people
why some of IDO’s finest members were born and raised right in the “Heart of the Hi-Line”
(well at least one was anyhow)

Thanks Desperado (why don’t you come to your senses…) for the gentle “Montana speak and spell” lesson. I owe you.

Couple comments on Glacier. I did not read all the posts so others may have already made these comments.
    1. I personally love driving the highline across Montana – Hwy 2. Try it either coming or going.
    2. The first time I went to Glacier we took the “Going to the Sun” pass/drive. That was Fourth of July weekend and the pass had just opened for the season the day before. 10 feet of snow on either side of the road.
    3. There is a hike called the Garden Wall. It’s about a 8-10 hour hike but spectacular. There is also a spur off of it that goes to a ridge top. Watched 2 wolverines play in the snow for 45 minutes on the other side of the ridge – my wildlife watching highlight.

My hidden gem would be Stokes Bay Resort. Very east end of Rainy on the Canada side. Boat in, we launch on Kab and portage at Kettle Falls. Very reasonably priced. Rustic and great fishing – two of my favorite things. I’ve been going up there for about 8 years. Stokes Bay website is:

Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions.
    Good luck.

Here’s mine. I can easily reach everything when I’m standing in the boat.

Have you ever busted a line guide with that set up?

I was considering doing something like that, but I feared busting a guide off. I decided to go with bike hooks hung from the ceiling instead. I got them for a buck each and they’re really easy to hang your rods on.

No not at all. As Fishthumper so graphically described… “when you slide the rod tip into the hole you just have to be careful and slide s l o w l y.”

I can see where it might be a problem if you had to stretch a bit more to reach the rack. And as a matter or fact I often will have a bottom bouncer or slip bobber on the rod, and I’m still able to slide into the hole.

Very nice! Curious what kind of depths and baits you were fishing.

    Thanks.

I’ve been reading a lot about zombies lately… why not zombie muskrats. Usually some environmental trigger, like extreme heat.

I appreciate all the comments. I have gotten over the nerdy Outdoors Card. And you’re right 10 bucks is not the end of the world. What bugged me was that the new card at full price that I bought in 2011, probably should be good for another 3 years. How naive of me.
The talk about Manitoba has really got me thinking. My son just moved to Minot. I will be checking it out.

Maybe the lamest party invitation I’ve ever seen.

Desperado… why don’t you come to your senses… you’ve been out riding fences…

Hopefully twice, and 3 times if I can sell it to Mrs. Sportman.
Fish with friends, Canadian license and RABC.

Mostly fish walleyes but have caught good pike (biggest 41″) and occasionally hit the crappies pretty good.

Resort (well actually that’s being generous) let’s call it a camp – Stokes Bay Resort on the far east end of Rainy. Great spot!

Probably fished it a dozen or so times. Always a good time!

I was up there quite a long time ago – probably 15 years ago. I recall a very long dusty trip on about 60 (or more) miles of washboard road. We camped. Walleyes were hard to find but the smallmouth fishing was superb. I think we figured out after the trip that the key to catching walleyes was reef fishing with bobbers. Good luck.

I agree with BrandonJ above regarding Medicine and Minnetonka. Other nearby lakes to consider are Sarah and Independence.

I would think you could do something very nice with it hanging on a wall with or without a case. Might be nice to combine with another element – landing net or couple lures of a similar vintage, etc. Think about if you want to add some special lighting too.

I have stored my boat at Becker Storage… well in Becker – north of Elk River. My 1775 boat costs me $150/season. It’s a bit of a haul for you but depending on what you’re used to paying might be worth it. I have stored there for probably the last 10 years. I think this upcoming weekend is probably the last to get your boat in. Good luck.

Great info. Thanks so much. I am constantly amazed by all the mystery there seems to be surrounding border crossings into Canada.
