I have not fished for whitebass in a while, but as I remember, when they aren’t biting anything else. They will hit a small silver spoon, forgot which brand, little cleo or one of the others, with slant. They will hit those on the fall. TIP: Switch out treble to single white hair hook. Easier to remove for fast action and the hair adds some effectivesness. If I can still find one in the tackle box, I’ll post a pix. We custom made the single hooks with hair.

Before you purchase, check your connections, if you have Firewire, I’d recommoned getting a firewire, way faster. If you only have USB, get the USB or Firewire compatible one to make sure it will fit your laptop now and new comp in the future. Don’t do what my brother did, order the wrong one online (firewire only Ex.harddrive) and notice that he can’t use it when it came in the mail. The ones that are usually on sale are the older versions of external harddrives, which will do the job, but there’s lots better stuff out now too. I usually always get 2, always have backing up the information, electronics, never know when they will fail, only when they do will you realize how much you lost.

I fished a few west metro lakes today. All smaller lakes ofcourse thinking the water would warm up faster. Did not do well at all. Me and my brother nailed a few crappies here and there but nothing big. It was just too hard to find a good concentration in this weather. Highest water temp we found was 43.7F. But the bass were eating. They hooked up on the crappie minnow well. I’d say about another week and the crappie action will pick up much faster. The warmer water temps we found were all on the south end of the lakes in muddy water…

Note: around 6:30pm the water was freezing up my pole. Burr…

Thats an awesome article Now opinions on the Calcutta vs the 6500/7000, which one has better performance? I know the cost difference, just wondering the difference on the water. I’m leaning towards the calcutta more because of the grip, casting with a 6500/7000 all day would be harsh for me.

I live in the North metro. The guy said he last had it serviced last winter, I’ll probably check to see if he can confirm this. So I’m looking around 200 wammies for a tune-up? Any good engine shops around the metro? I just don’t want it to be like auto repair shops…I had bad experience this summer. Good car went in to change a dead starter, came out with a new working starter but leaking water pump and the gas meter turned dead? I dunno, kind of funny…he needed 700 to fix that. I didn’t do it.

I heard coating the bottom of the hull will stop leakage? True? Is it expensive?

Thanks for the input. About the compression, how do I check that? The motor is newer than the boat. It is a 86 Mariner 40hp tiller. I tried looking it up online, but can’t find the motor I do know the boat does leak a little and he has to use the bilge to pump it out every couple hours. Is that problematic? Or is it fixable? Or is that normal? The trailer is in good condition. Other than that I think I will be getting what I’m paying for it. Any more insights?

I think I’d go with Navionics or Lowrance, I have both chips. I had Navionics first and for a guy like me who hits so many metro lakes, having those map guide helps a lot. Lowrances is the ultimate but you if you don’t fish the bigger lakes much it won’t help you cause mostly lakes listed are the bigger lakes. I know Navionics is pretty good with the rivers. I didn’t check on Lowrance to see how the rivers are…i’ll look tonight and get back to you. But you can find a used 06 navionics chip for a very good deal so nothing wrong with that choice.

Ok…i will probably check the plugs first..maybe best if just replace. Next…what part is the coil? Confused with that part. I will also check the gas.

I’m not sure if I explained it well enough. I’ll try explain the problem a little better. The engine idles and starts up fine. When running it is still fine at low, medium, and even 3/4 throttle. Once the boat gets going and flats out from the tipping, and you knock it into full throttle it will still run fine. But every couple of seconds at full throttle it will have multiple jerks together. You can see the motor jerking, (lame analogy, but sounds kinda like when a pinball hits the rubberband part in a pinball machine, hitting it multiple times.)It doesn’t lose speed but its quite a strong jerk, which I don’t feel too confident about. Keeping it under full throttle will take that jerking away. I can see how a miss fire on a plug might result that jerking. You guys think anything else could be the problem?

Have you guys ever tried shrimp? Learned it from a buddy and works well. Don’t mind sharing, and I do want to see if any of you guys have tried it as well. What I do is I usually set aside a couple jumbo shrimps you get from the grocery/sea market. Head on or off is fine and seal it in a zip lock bag. Leave it in the sunlight for a day or so before going out. This has always done the trick. Although I don’t fish much for cats, its fun when I do go out though.

Hey Wade, don’t you carry the Expedition for less than the H20c? Which one would you prefer if they are the identical? Is the expedition waterproof? These units make u go koo koo. I was using a friends h20c this weekend and enjoyed it. Then he recommended the Expedition. Ugh…tech stuff. We need something that goes…FISH HERE

Thx guys. That will do I believe. He did have his gain at around 4-5. Having the interference did put a toll on his fishing, but the vx1 unit is a pretty good unit nonetheless. Hard to beat price wise and zoom feature. I think I’m gonna go with the lx3tc. Man, I hate sitting at work and thinking of ice toys.
