I think. Some people have to blow there own horn. Tell people how good they are.. Only post when there doing good Catching a lot of fish or be right up there in there tournaments a winning some cash. I call that one sided or tott’n your own horn.
Other just want to help other fisher people get there fish. They could care less if any one knows who they are.
On this site in Nebraska. Only certain people are mentioned when they do good. And when they not do so good . dead silent. I think any one in Nebraska that does good ,like these guys in a hard year . Should be congratulated weather there in the ido Nebraska click or not.

That’s ok Steve. If you can’t get a hold of Ben. You might try Darrell. He knows the Lincoln lakes like the back of his hand. If he is not busy. He will take you out on one of the area lakes and you have a great time. If that guy is not working he is guiding or just fishing. He got a great boat and a great guy. Give me a call or private message and I will get you in contact with him.

Well. Did Ben do it. I not able to get any results of the Nebraska teems at the N.T.C. . Ben had the best chance. Did any of the other Nebraska teems do good? Best of luck to all of them.

I was up this past weekend . The river was a low. Had a very hard time getting in to it from the Nebraska side. The new shuts are the way to get up in the current. But than there’s no where to go. All sand and mud bars. We saw a guy pick up 2 nice keepers on the drop off just east of the collinies. Couple guys trolled the flats . They said the fish were not there yet. We finely managed a limit of 8 sat.. They were in the humps out in front of miller. Crawlers and purple willow blade spinners. Is all we could get them on. Sunday morning we got a tip at at the shell station to try the first bay west of the marina .I think its called hobby cat bay. Tried shallow got 2 small ones went 2 the deep break there and worked west as far as we could go in the 30 mile hour east wind . Could not see them on the locator but were we limited out by 10 am with some real nice eaters. Turned 2 big hogs back.. It was well worth fighting the wet weather and that hard east wind. We are going up next week end and enter that walleye tourney at the sportsman’s bar in niobrara. it’s a fun tourney and fishing has been real hot up there. Not hit and miss like the lake.

If these is your first time up on Lewis and Clark .You might want to stop over to the south Dakota ranger station at mid way. Get your self a real good map of the lake. This time of year try the area between Charlies creek and Tabor point . Start deep then work shallow. Try crawlers and spinners . If you like flicker and #5 shad raps they should like them to .Slower the better for the crawlers .From 1.80 to 2.5 the cranks will work. If you like jigs . They always like them. The channel come close to shore by the white buildings on the north shore. Real good place for walleye and saugar. You might also want to try the Nebraska side just head directly south of charlies creek you will find a bunch of flats or humps .. If there. you will have the time of you life. They like 9 to 12 foot there, thats where the may flies are. the closer est you go toward miller creek . The deep the flats or humps are. Most get the fish there with cranks ,but live bait works to… I do not think they will be down in front of weigon yet. But they might. All around miller creek should be fair to good . But by going up west toward the river current and in the river should be the best. Good luck. Have fun.

WE {2} got our limit tonight trolling as close to the rocks as we could. Nothing big just keepers 18in to 21in.
There was still fisherman catching some big fish from shore. Looked like they were casting rapalas along the rocks.
    Hope this helps.

I just got back from fishing the river and lake from just a above the James river to the Fort Randall dam .. Yes there was some pictures of a big walleye come in from the Sharp area and 1 from the Way bay area. So the South Dakota news papers did have a good posting of what on in there State. And rightfully so. We ice fished the bays of Lewis and Clark .the ice on the main lake was very shaky . Open spots here and there. But we still cut up to 10 in.. The lake was wide open just above the the white barn and the river all the way to picks town . Where the lake was open . It was like looking at a mud hole. In fact the river did not clear up till you got above the verdell landing. The corps did not have much water coming out ether of the dams, because of the flooding down steam . So it made it real hard to get around, and fishing even harder.. Not much was going on below the dams but small fish and a lot of spoon bills getting in you way. . Hope spell check worked this time. People tell me I can fish better then I spell .I wish I had a fish check on my boat that works as good as the spell check on my lap top. P. S.Ii post a couple un-cut pictures of Lewis and Clark . So you can see the ice. It will be a couple weeks till spawn there.

Wow . Thanks . Your picture leaves nothing to hide. And a lot better than the spell check on my computer.
Fort Thompson is what 80 miles north of the Nebraska border and 90 miles north / west of the Iowa / MN border? .

I think every one would like to see these pictures. . 1 fish at 15 lb in this region would stop the presses and every newspaper would have a hay day.but 2 here in the mid west . Well that would be unheard of. If that truly the case. But everyone knows how fisherman tell stores ???

If I had to pick. I would go west & north to MERRITT. Any excuss to fish merrit I can get .I will.
The Sherman will be fun a crowded. Expect 80 or more great teams there. . Fish will be everywhere deep to shallow.. Live bait to cranks. Or at least that’s what it been like at Sherman in Aprili the past few years. A few fish will be at the dam some will be at the inlet. You will have a great time at Sherman.
Now at merritt expect a few less teams but could be another great tourney. With the difference in length and bag. You have to get bigger fish at merritt. . You can throw jig or beetle spins. ,bass spinners to doll flies in to the shallows and hook a big one that time of year. Live bait drift the flats ,jig the drops or even slip bobber the weedlines.come up with a nice limit. Heck you can even pull hot and tot shallow or deepand rip a limit or two.
I will not be fishing the any tourneys again this year. But good luck to all the nice guys and gals that will be.

I talked with ,I think the wife of the owner of the ice gear. He had a medical emergence. The tail gate was not shut or it popped open during the ride to the hospital. He is still in the hospital now and expected to fully recover. But the wife gave me a pretty good account of what was lost.Every one thought the gear was gone forever. I told her that she and her husband were very lucky In my book. There’s no such thing as finders keeps loser weepers and for her husband to get well and I hope see him out on the ice next year. It just not right to gain upon someone else’s loss.

Go to Port Clinton Ohio, Lake Erie walleye – Big fish! Perfect time to be there.

Port Clinton Ohio, Lake Erie . That’s 800 miles from grand island ,14 hours drive time one way. . That,s kind of a long trip .just for a couple days. You spend all your time traveling. . Weather that time of year out there can be horrendous.

That’s a tough question this year!!!! Think you will be better or going south .. Might just get into some darn good fishing in those Kansas lakes you mentioned.
Heading up north to the first 2 tailraces that time of year is a little tricky.. My experience. Is lots of big boat and a few small fish. Besides that . This year there my still be ice on the lakes and most parts of the river. We just Friday came back from pickstown area. We were below the dam about 3 miles. And we cut ice up to 30 in. In slower parts of the river and in the river main channel was 25 in or so. If you do go fish tail water .I would fish the water below Big Ben. We fished both NE/SD water and full SD water. Same all over. Deep deep ice. We have never cut that much ice on the river this time of year. Heck we are usually using the boat and running all over. Not this year. We went through a ton of fuel in the snowmobiles. Ice Might not to off by April 16

I do not know about the moon phases or things like that ben . I was on a lake north and little east of you and had a fantastic fishing trip. Friday evening got a limit of eyes as you call them . Was off the ice by 11 am with a nice limit of eyes a and a couple of pike on saturday. Then on Sunday from around 8:30 I had pike smashing my tip ups till about 11:00 when they slowed down. I had a great weekend. So I would not think the moon had much influence on what was going on in my area. Ice was from 20 to 25 inches thick some ares was clear others white or cloud colored. Couple places on the lakeI there was some buckling but. I canot remember a better year to fish Nebraska on ice.

Ice conditions are stiil great . Looks like it going to be a great tourney lot of teams already signed up..

Back east. Ya I guess that’s were were at. I heard Omaha has 36+ in. of snow to date we have 41.in plus. I have 15 foot snow drifts in my north field. Back east here. We have quit using our 3 and 4 wheelers to get to and on the ice . Brought the old snow mobile out of moth balls and it’s still hard to get to some of the good spots.. With all this snow on the lakes here ,we might have a heck of a fish kill this year.

I would like to say that was true . The fact is I fish all over a Nebraska and a couple other states. Been fishing 50 years + . Made a few good friends that keep me informed . With that in mind . All the experience I have and what my friends tell me. I do all right. You here about the good time but not about the bad. I would say I been out on the ice 20+ times this year.. And there was just a hand full of times of picture fish. To me it’s all about the fun times you and your friends have fishing. Not about limits or getting skunked.
