So the LX7 went crazy. I was set up in 11 feet and it randomly started changing depths up to 132 feet. clutter all over the flasher dial. Then the unit just froze up, the power button would not even work. Unplugged it from battery power. This happened a couple times. 2 hours messing with this thing on the ice, meanwhile my 8 year old kid is hammering bluegills using the reliable FL20. WTF any one else have these issues? Is this a known issue or a fluke or what. Firmware is 4.07

What didn’t you like about the FLX28?

    1) the noise, louder than my FL20. 2) Delay in reading bottom; it takes about 5-10 seconds after putting the ducer in the hole. 3) Adjusting gain adjusts the cone angle 4) White color palette is too bright, turning it off leaves you with a 3 color flasher same as before so I ultimately decided I didn’t need a $600+ flasher that is more or less the same as one I already have. Yes I could have sold the fl20 and kept the 28, but my kids are familiar with the 20 and they’ll be using that now, so back to the store the 28 went. I do like vexilar and if I did not have the 20 already I might have kept it. Just my opinions and personal preference. Vexilar makes a great unit, they just didn’t earn my business this time around.

Woke up this morning and the light was solid green. I did read that it can take up to 20 hours, just didn’t see anything about the flashing lights. I’m going to assume the flashing lights is the second stage of the 3 stage charger where it tapers off to 10%. I think I’ll be very happy with this unit. Thanks for the replies!

I’ve got a mix of reels, Shimano Sienna 500 & 1000, Pfluger Trion, also been adding some 13 fishing wicked long stems. I like the long stem reels: 5BB and a 4.8:1 ratio. These create the perfect grip and holding positions for my style of fishing. Guess time will tell about the quality of them and how they hold up, but no issues yet.

I don’t use mono anymore, strictly fluorocarbon for ice fishing. I prefer Vanish. Some of the open water rods have mono and braid. I have one ice reel with braid that’s suffix 832.

Well I’m sort of in the same shack, except flipped. I own Vex and am thinking about moving to Marcum. I have an FL20, it’s been great, no issues ever and very simple to use. I have kids that fish with me most times so they all want to use the Vexilar. I’m going to buy another unit and have been pretty set on the FLX28. I went to buy the FLX28 and there it was…the LX7, staring at me saying “don’t do it man, don’t buy that outdated electronic, look at me I’m hot and fresh and oh so beautiful.” So I start checking the LX7 over and it’s like 12AM on prom night ya know. But then out of the corner of my eye there’s the FLX28 “hey buddy I’ve always been here for you, tried and true and simple and I find fish too.” Dang it got crazy lol so I left the store with nothing and now i have become a bit hesitant. Both companies have excellent customer service from what I read, of course there’s always one or two horror stories, but I chalk those up to attitude of the person, not the companies. So the LX7…of course it looks cool, but is it a pain in the butt to get setup, is it too much eye candy, man when I’m fishing I want it simple. I just found out it has all these zoom features and auto and dynamic mode and etc etc. Anyway we all love after prom at midnight so I just keep thinking I gotta get me some of this LX7 love. Will I have to take the Vexilar sticker off my truck if I buy a Marcum?

Tom, pretty reasonable question as to where the line is…or is the line 5 feet wide? If ya don’t know the answer, no need to respond…just keep reading your magazine and resist the urge to play with the keyboard

Is it the edge of the sign on the downstream side or the upstream side of the sign edge? I mean the sign is like 5 feet wide, so which is it? The sign says Dept. of Natural Resources, so why is the Sheriff involved at all? The Sheriff should be giving DUI’s to all the donkeys out there boozing it up like f’ing idiots and endangering the rest of us. They got binocs, if they can see an imaginary line being crossed, they can see a blue bud light can! Why not ticket the people who are not only endangering themselves, but others as well? There’s more fine money in DUI’s anyway. DONKEY SHOW>

8 inches of snow on top of 8 inches of slush as of last night. I would not recommend driving out unless you are on a snowmobile.

Only thing I wonder is why is the 2nd Amendment the only one you need a permit for?

Interesting, wow this is interesting. Truck #1 with the damaged trailer sounds like he got the short end of the stick in this whole deal. If I were the driver of truck #2 I would step up to my responsibility and be more worried about truck #1’s damaged trailer than my bumper. I would make sure his trailer was fixed before my bumper. If that means paying $500 in deductible than so be it. No way am I damaging a family member or friends trailer and not getting it fixed. You always find out who your true friends are when $ is on the line…

I pick and choose where to spend more on certain items. Best example is last year I put an Elite 7 HDI with map chip and ram mount that was around $800 out the door. I paid $1000 for my boat, motor, trailer. But hey the boat pulls great behind my professional grade GMC. I also like Bourbon, I’d rather drink Maker’s Mark and Buffalo Trace but I usually get the Jim Beam so I can get minnows and gas to go fishing without using a credit card.

Beautiful fish! Those cold water trout are absolutely beautiful. I really like the pics within the video, nice work. One question for you: why do you think the tails were all battered up on the first couple fish in the video?

I spent lots of time reading reviews online. I spent lots of time looking at the units at stores as well. Ultimately I went with the Elite 7 HDI, real glad I did. I would recommend spending time with the units getting to know the menus, layouts etc. Stuff always looks nice online, but hands-on interaction s the only way to make a couple hundred dollar purchasing decision. good luck.

I would have demanded the store issue a refund. Unless the receipt specifically stated that motorized equipment is non refundable I would not have left with that POS. Crappy experience all the way around, sorry to hear about it.

I fish small tungsten jigs almost exclusively on a spinning reel. How often do you put new line on? What kind of line… mono, flouro or a hybrid? Do you use any backing? I change line often and don’t have much issues with jig spin. I know lots of anglers that never change line. They be using like 5-10 year old line with coils and kinks in it wondering why they don’t catch fish…

I would think if you could jerry rig the ducer to a small diameter pole (like one of those white driveway markers) and get it to sit at the bottom of the hole pointing down that should work… IDK guess I have never tried anything like that. As for the head unit, you could screw the base to a board or something so it’s not getting banged around a ton. I have been thinking about buying a 2nd power cord for my Elite 7 and installing a ram mount to the tub in my portable and just using the map chip and gps functions and the vexi for sonar. I would say try rigging some thing up that will keep the ducer in correct position and it should work.
Saline should do the trick, or just put a small dab of Vaseline right inside your nostrils, reapply as needed. Good luck!

What if you just deposit the check and keep the balance.

The check bounces or comes back as stolen and you are on the hook with the bank for the balance plus fees. A family member fell for it about 6 years ago and thats what happened.

Prices are double right now for one reason. Farmers had to use dryers this past fall due to the late Spring as crops were not fully mature (thus not fully dried…). This was the case across our country so reserves on propane were used up. From there it’s a simple supply/demand equation. Supply low so prices go up to slow demand…RR

It’s the main reason but there are a few others as well.
    Propane jumps to record prices
