Thanks for the input . I called huminbird to see if a plug was available for my unit and it is not. so I will have to make my own deflector.

What does this small plug look like? Which tells you I didn’t install it of course.
August 18, 2011 at 5:06 am #989185Congrats on the great fish. I’m stumped though about the word prolly in your post, is it an abreviation or what?
August 16, 2011 at 1:35 am #988457Great trip 8bones. You didn’t mention how good they all cooked-up. Can’t wait to do it again soon.

You have got to love this site and forum, what a great way to get advice from those who are willing to share knowledge to help another angler refine his/her skill. Thanks for all the advice now all I have to do is get out on the water and do some practice. Just one more thought or maybe question is a better word, do any of you use the Rapala knot I think is what it’s called to tie your jig on? It’s the knot that leaves an open loop through the eye of the jig which seems to give the jig more freedom to move.

Headed to Lac Suel for a week in Early July. I was there about 5 years ago and we pounded them but have not been back since.
Any suggestions on spots that we should give attention to, depth to start for the first week of July, etc. Last time we were there we had all the fish we could handle on jig and minnow. Anyone pull cranks up there in the deep water?
I am pretty sure I am going to buy the navionics chip for the trip. Any advice or negatives to it?
Hey Wabasha24, how was the Mahkwa trip? Did you get into Bray?July 6, 2010 at 5:19 pm #884728Quote:

Looks like a great place In that second picture, the rock stack…what is that all about ??? I remember seeing them all along the Queens Highway, last time I was up that way…. seemed every 50 yards there was a stack…anybody know by whom and why they were made ???
big G
From what I understand those rock piles are made by natives as a way to mark a trail as a safe way to travel. They have a name but I can’t think of it now.

Based on what I have read I plan to spend some time in Vaughn Lake. Does anyone know how long of a boat ride it is to Bray Lake. I have heard that can be really good as well but don’t want to make the run if it is going to eat up the better part of a day.
Also, I have the chip but with it not being the most accurate up there I have some reservation about making that long run. Anyone have advice-tips on making the run from Mahkwa to Bray?
You will find the run to Bray Lake is about the same as running to Pine point or Chambers Island about 30 minuets. Make sure you watch for the rocks as you head beyond Wendigo Island toward Chambers there are some dandy’s so be watchful. The area that you go through to get to the channel that goes into Bray is also shallow and weedy (good northern spot) and you will have to watch closely to spot the channel to Bray which also is rocky. With a current mapping chip it should be much easier to locate than when I was there several years back without one. When we were there in August the fishing wasn’t good at all on Bray but it was a nice run and interesting to explore and we did have some good northern action in the area approaching Bray. Have a great trip!
October 24, 2009 at 1:52 pm #811314Thanks to all for the honest discussion about these units it is refreshing when folks share their experience and knowledge without entering into a bashing of one product or another .
October 23, 2009 at 7:22 pm #811150Thanks for the input Jason, I agree service is very important and Humminbird side scan has proven itself and with the 180* scan soon to come it is a very good choice. Can you say more about the quality of the image on the screen when the two are compared? Is one better than the other when it comes to separation of targets and are there differences in how well one displays fish compared to the other? Which one is the simplest to operate? If I’m going to put the investment into a new unit I just don’t want to make a choice I will not be happy with, they both strain the budget but if one is clearly better I’d rather spend the bucks and be happy.
September 25, 2009 at 12:49 pm #806448Thanks for sharing the tribute to our service men and women Jack. We all need to be reminded from time to time of just how much we owe to these fine and outstanding people who are willing to sacrifice so much.
September 16, 2009 at 1:12 pm #804657I agree a larger tow vehicle would be the best. But if you want or need the smaller size vehicle for some reason you may want to consider a different trailer for the boat that is equiped with surge brakes. IMO you do need more hp and a 4×4 though .

I have a few cracks in mine on my 1660 Classic. Lund is going to replace them this fall no charge. No problem at all with getting it replaced.
Lund was very easy to work with.
That’s great! What year is your 1660? My PROV is a 2004 so maybe I should get in contact with Lund directly .
August 6, 2009 at 6:43 pm #795873As has been stated use the underground splice kits available at Menards Home depot etc. Do not use marine grade wire to make the splice, use conductors that are the same size as the ones that are cut and make sure they are rated for underground installation. The use of solder is not the best idea and violates the NEC, a high load can melt the solder. .

Thanks. I did check with the local Lund dealer about changing the console caps out and found out it was a 10 to 12 hour job for them at $80.00 per and that they didn’t think Lund would cover the labor. The guy in the shop also told me that other than the aesthetics there is no functional reason to change them out and that they may crack again, as he said it’s a bad design. So it looks like those of us who have rigs that have cracked caps are going to have to look past them if we don’t have the $$$$ to switch them out .

August 3, 2009 at 12:14 am #794905Jon, I just crossed over the bridge this afternoon and the water seems a bit high for this time of year. The level should be dropping because the Dam’s here in Grand Rapids are not allowing much flow. Talked to my nephew who was on the river this last Friday and he said the water was very muddy, more than usual.
July 31, 2009 at 3:22 pm #794599Thanks rigging guy, I will take your advice I agree it looks like a nasty job especially if you have no experience doing it. I hope you are right and that Lund will cover the cost but since I purchased the boat used from a private party I wonder.
July 10, 2009 at 2:21 pm #789615I too have a Lund with a gas gauge that only gives an idea that there may be fuel in the tank. My question is what is out there on the market that can be installed that will show a true fuel tank level. I’m running a Honda not Mercury so I would assume smart gauges are out.
July 22, 2008 at 1:09 pm #700498All is well, I tried the edit again and it did work. Thanks to all for the offer to help and the advice.
