Thanks for the input everybody. Here’s what the DNR told me:

Thank you for contacting the MN DNR Info Center.
There is not a legal requirement for that, no. However, a well-hidden blind is also hidden from other hunters, so you might consider including some blaze for your own safety.

I’ll definitely add some orange if I hunt public lands, and probably go without on private land if I am the only hunter. Thanks again, Dave

Thanks everybody for the advice. I carefully and safely shot 2 of the rounds without any problems. I finally found some new ammo at Scheels and now will use those rounds going forward and keep the handloads as mementos only. Thanks again, safe shooting!

We just got back on Saturday after a week at the Angle. Water temps were 64 on Saturday and shot up to 74 mid week, then back to 70 on Saturday when we left. The walleyes were elusive (we only pull rapalas) and pike fishing nonexistent. But the muskies were really going and bass fishing was excellent. Water levels were normal. I can’t help if you are jigging for walleyes but if interested in casting all day I can give a few pointers if interested.

I just got back from being up there last week and the fishing was up and down. The water temp went from 66 when we arrived up to 76 degrees when we left. We always fish the muskie opener the 3rd week of June and always have good fishing in general, for walleye, pike and bass. Good luck!

I have a 2006 Navigator 165 Sport. It has been a great boat. I have the Yamaha 90 HP 4 stroke and it has been perfect. I would make 2 suggestions: If I had the cash I would get the 175, that extra foot is really worth it. Also, the rod locker setup in my Navigator is not the best. But overall, I am very happy and I think I made a great choice when I bought it. No problems since I bought it. Dave.

    D-Day, June 6, 1944:

To My Father, a True Hero, who risked his life that day by parachuting into Normandy on that night 69 years ago, to literally free the world. He was one of the “Band of Brothers”, the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. The pictures below show his buddies in their plane before the jump. Dad talked a lot about the second photo showing Ike adressing the troops before they got in the planes, and he says he was right there face to face, very close to where the photo was taken. And the last picture is of Dad in North Minneapolis in 1943.

I love and miss you Dad.

I’m proud to say my father was one of those “Band of Brothers” of the 101st Airborne who parachuted into Normandy on that night 69 years ago. He was 23 years old and was the oldest in his group. He carried a machine gun and landed up to his arm pits in a flooded trench and nearly drowned. He survived D-Day, but sadly was severly injured in September during Operation Market Garden.

I toast my father each and every June 6th!

Thanks for the input. Does anyone know for sure if using foam to secure the wire in the styrofoam walls is acceptable, equivalent to using wire staples to secure the wire?

We were up there at Sportsman’s last Thursday thru Sunday and the water was chocolate milk colored and full of debris. Saturday was better and Sunday probaby was a little bitter also. It may have cleared a bit but be skeptical.

Wow, looks like a great day. We are heading up Thursday. Any tips for a novice to sturgeon fishing? Thanks.

Thanks for all the advice. I will examine the wiring as described and report back. It’s one of those things that is an inconvenience but not a major issue so I am inclined to ride it as is til spring.

Man, you guys really know how to go off on a guy. There is no bigger guy in terms of love for the USA than I am, so lay off that area. I asked a simple question. If I can save $100 on a $280 Revo Toro Winch or a $360 Shimano 400TE I would like to save the money. If WalMart had them on sale would it make a big difference?
    Enough of the BS.

I’m up today at the Red Door. Dang windy, hopefully it’ll calm down this evening. Anyone else up today (Tuesday)?
Feel free to text or call, six one two, four one two, twenty three thirty four.

Thanks, Stuwest, but the truck is in Arkansas. Don’t ask why the kid is in Arkansas, but a girl is involved

Do any of the mechanic types on this thread think I might have a good chance of fixing the tranny with a shift solenoid repair? That would be a great low cost fix.

    Anyone?

YES, ROSCOE, the Check Engine light does come on. What do you suppose it could be? I love an easy fix.

Drained the pan, no metal filings inside, all looked clean. Replaced the fluid and gasket, added Trans-Tune and some Lube Guard. No change in performance, still shifts poorly. So I guess the tranny is dying. It’s very old and my son is driving it, so I don’t want to put much money into the truck.

I’m heading up tomorrow for a week in the NW Angle. I’ve never tried lead core, but we pull Raps a lot. I will try the lead core. Any other tips? Those are awesome fish.

I did the work last night and the radio came back up just fine. Of course, what appeared to be a simple starter replacement became a major pain in the [censored], sice I could not get the starter out without having to do some magic with the transmission lines, solenoid shield, etc. I tried and tried to jiggle it out and could not get the damn thing out from the truck. I put it back in and left it for now.

    It’s always something

Several web posts say that I do not need to worry about the radio as long as it is the same vehicle that it originally came in. Aparently the radio and other electric components check the VIN number automatically when you turn the key to on, and as long as it reads the correct VIN it will be ok. Can anyone confirm? I’m disconnecting the battery anyways and will live with the end result but I am curious.

Use a flasher battery or a battery charger and put it to the cables while the battery is disconnected, this will give the radio power and not lock it out.

Wouldn’t that be the same as having the battery in? I’m guessing he wants the battery out so the starter cables don’t arc when disconnected.

Could he unhook the battery and then tape the cables at the starter and reattach the battery to keep the radio working right?

Right, I want to disconnect the battery so I don’t arc while changing the starter. I was hoping there is some sort of code I can press into the radio to disarm the radio. That would be an easy way, right? I don’t want the Anti-Theft anyway.

I would also suggest getting a “fish handling glove”, like the Lindner fishing gloves that are pretty much hook and gill proof. They cost $20 but they are great and give you much safer handling of a thrashing fish in the net with big hooks flying around.

I was there this weekend also. We Lindy-riged and did well. I’m used to pulling Raps but no one else says they do that on Cass. I’m glad to hear that techinque works, so I will go back to that next time I’m there. Did you hit them day or evening?

180,000 miles on the truck. John’s Auto has a used one with a 1 year warranty for $800. Is this a job that might be easy to do?

Had several follows on Cass but overall was very slow. Cold and windy, but we still had a great day on the water.

I have the Nav Sport 165 with a 90 4 stroke Yammy. It’s excellent. Do not get the 70, go with the 90.

I’ve got a 4-stroke Yammy 90 and have nothing but great things to say. For maintenance, I change oil every year, lower unit also, and I change plugs each year also, and keep the old ones in the boat as a backup. Yammy suggests running their gas additive and I do it at 1 oz per 10 gallons. I run Stabil also, especially at year end.

Then, turn the key and enjoy the quiet humm.

That is exactly what I use on my baitcaster. Many will hate PowerPro, but for me it’s good. It needs to be “broken in” for the first few hundred casts, but then should be great. Expect some discoloed fingers as the color comes off.
