They all work well just have to find the right jig/plastic and color combo. they have a variety pack that has a bunch of different kinds in it. Get that and try to find out what works for you.

I have 6 St Croix ice rods. L, ML, Med action. Have only had one break but it was my issue not a problem with the rod. My combo is the SC rod with a Pfleuger or Okuma reel. Can usually find a nicely priced combo like that on FISH USA.
November 21, 2013 at 8:50 pm #1365659I use a vx1 pro and I love it. As for catching perch well thats pretty much what we do here in CNY on Oneida Lake is catch perch and Walleye. The target separation is great. It has a zoom feature for the bottom 5 feet of water and it has interference rejection. Im sure there are better machines with more bells and whistles but if you’re not into deep water fishing too often this machine works really well. However if you do get deeper this machine handles that too. Oneida lake has a few deeper spots 40-50′ that Ive benn into and the vx1 pro had no problems. You won’t be disappointed.
November 21, 2013 at 1:45 am #1365406I have a Frabill Commando and I think its a step above the kenai in quality. I have a friend who owns the clam tc pro in fact I helped him assemble it and I was surprised that the seat seemed cheap and poorly engineered. It seems the seat for the kenai is worse than that of the tc pro. Hope I didn’t offend anyone as Im sure there are things about mine that people could pick apart but if it were me I would spend the extra and get a frabil commando insulated. You get what you pay for JMO
