I’m pretty much a “make from a broken long rod” (at the most, less than $20) kinda guy. After looking at TU rods, I’ve been searching for that “secret pocket” in my wallet.

Whooooooosh!!! Hey there’ another one Blue. My, what a big ..um “flag”…
February 1, 2010 at 9:53 pm #838685I’ve used them w/my 9 & 5 yr olds and they’ve work great on slip bobber panfish. No experience using them on eyes. Most of the time time it’s a “hey, my bobber is gone” situation. There’s only been handful of time when they were gut-hooked. I remind them not to set the hook and just reel in steady. Knowing the idea is to have the fish swallow the hook gives you time to tell them go pick up the rod and reel n rather than dive acrosse the boat knocking everything over.

-Creek KidSeptember 10, 2005 at 4:20 am #383029They are some really unique fish. I thought it was weird how tough and armor-like their skin was but their mouth looked so fragile. The third one that was caught ate the hook pretty good so I cut the line at the the hook. I’ve never been a big fan of that tactic but it seemed like the best alternative. They sure do bend the rod though!
July 2, 2004 at 5:46 am #311005I know a guy that this happened to! Someone cut it out of his tree in his yard at night. It was found in a gun shop (I think it was like 2 years later) by someone who had stopped by and remembered what it looked like the day it was shot. It was a pretty awesome rack. The owner was happy he got a FREE mount anyway. If these pictures stay out on the web I’m sure this one will be found too. Ironic how roadhunters and poachers don’t care how they get it but a 120 lb. doe can be like winning the lottery when you earn it the hard way. A rack like that is sure to get noticed.

July 2, 2004 at 5:18 am #311002Hey thanks for the reply Schnauzer. I like that night fishing idea. Sounds like we’re all set for cabins. Our trip is usually pretty laid back. If we were to bump into you while we are there I can guarantee we’d have a some gratuitius adult beverages. We appreciate any info we can get though as we have only returned to fish a lake twice on this trip. I’ll probably snoop around for more info later on in the summer.
June 25, 2004 at 7:51 pm #310067It would probably help if I told you the name of the place. Sorry about that. Check it out at:

June 23, 2004 at 4:53 am #309663Went to a nice place a couple of years ago on Lower Cullen Lake, in Nisswa. Very nice cabins. Reasonable. Bonfire each night hosted by the owners. They are located right on the bike trail and offer FREE bike rentals with each cabin. Nice sandy beach and a play area for kids. Definitely the most family-oriented resort I’ve stayed at. If your into big water the Cullen chain won’t wet your appetitite. But that is the only downfall I can say about staying there.
January 31, 2004 at 12:46 am #290917Is there a big gathering around the tip of the island by the airport lights again this year? Last year it looked like a convention there! If you’re fishing the cribs are you coming in from Shafers or French Island? I’ve always been a little spooked driving out there too but it seems like a pretty good idea when you’re draggin your shanty. Sounds like Lawrence Lake is the only place that is producing anything lately anyway.
September 1, 2003 at 4:33 am #274889I might have a line on a hard copy. We’ll chat later this week. Give a me couple days notice before you leave.
July 19, 2003 at 4:13 am #260045Interesting stuff here but I’m curious… what’s the deepest most of you will go after bass? I mean really go after them like you do in slop. I’m no bass professor but it seems like everyone I know (myslef included) is usually fishing 6 feet or less. If bass go in the slop due to temperature isn’t the water going to be colder, the deeper you go in the river too, just like on lakes? Granted there aren’t a lot of holes in the Miss that go real deep but it seems like the magic number on the norhern MN lakes is often 12-18 feet for a lot of species. Maybe the river doesn’t change with depth as much. I don’t know. I’ve never checked the temp at different depths in the river. The reason I ask is how do we know there aren’t any bass in a 12′ hole when we usually don’t throw a lure in that deep to see if there’s a bite. Maybe I’m way off base and there’s been a lot experimenting trying to fish them deep on the river. I’m not trying sour the discussion but I really am curious to hear the deepest spot that someone has pulled bass out of while actually fishing for bass.
July 8, 2003 at 2:36 am #270099I asked the same thing before and was told they will work but they don’t work any better than the competition… in outboards anyway. A “million dollar idea that doesn’t work” is the response I got. I didn’t buy them. I’d be interested to hear what you have to say about them if you try them out though.
