A plastic hose that hooked to the pump was leaking on mine, if that’s the problem use a hair dryer to heat the hose and then tighten it, also put a little silicone around the hose where it hooks to the pump and let it set for at least 24 hours.

If its leaking at the intake, just silicone around it and you should be set to go.

Hang in there. Life can be a rocky road at times, but adversity can make a person appreciate the simple things in life. Health, and loved ones for a start.

Changing careers is quite common in todays world, you will be a stronger person in the long run.

You are in my thoughts and prayers,

It looks very much like the Russian River during the Red run. There was a river barge that worked off the current and was hooked to ropes that would transport you across for a small fee. I fished it one time in the late 60’s and it was crowded just as bad. Tangled lines from hooked fish were one of the major problems in fishing this river. The Kenai looks similar to this in areas also.

Thank you Jack and everyone else for your thoughts and prayers. The surgery room was reserved by my Urologist who did surgery on my bladder in December. When we returned to Rochester the day before the surgery was scheduled, the Doctor that was going to perform the prostate surgery wanted more tests, I failed the voiding test because I retained 450 mil of urine in my bladder after I thought I was empty. The surgery was postponed until further testing was done, we had to return for the flow test and ultrasound.

When they did the cysto of my bladder earlier this month they found an abnormal area, I have a history of bladder cancer that goes back to 1991, the cancer was clear till about 1 1/2 years ago when it started coming back. during my surgery in December they did the same treatment on my bladder that kept it clear for so many years, with the abnormal area they thought the cancer had returned and were talking about putting me in a therapy program where they use lights, the Doctor said I was the perfect candidate for the program and he would discuss it with me after my surgery.

On Wed the 23rd the Doctor did my Laser surgery on my Prostate, and biopsied my bladder, the biopsy was benign I have had alot of surgery’s in the past, but have never felt so good after a surgery as this one. One of Mayo’s biggest problems in the past was treating pain after surgery, my system would shut down every time after surgery on my bladder because of the pain when I would first try to urinate, I would always have to go home with a catheter for 5 to 7 day’s because of this. Good news, they are now starting to treat pain, they gave me adequate medication before I had to ask for it this time.

At 8am this morning the catheter was removed and I stayed on the floor drinking water and being very nervous about being able to urinate when the time came. It was just awesome, no pain, and that was the best I have done in many years. My Doctor wanted to keep us in Rochester thru Friday but my wife talked him into releasing me today because I was doing so well. When they void tested me at 11am I only retained 140 mil in my bladder, and they said it will improve every day.

I will have to wear a diaper for awhile but it’s well worth it.

The ice fishing season will be over for me, but I am looking forward to the early June season on Red.

I want to thank everyone again for there prayers, I’m sure it made things easier for me this time.

Note: If any of you want to follow me up for those early season Crappie, let me know.

    Hi Rootski,

To post the picture I first uploaded the picture to a site called Imageshack, it’s free.

There will be three different image categories to the right of the photos you uploaded, just highlight the one you want and copy it, I used the top one.

Just underneath where you write your post on this site is (Instant UBB Code) click on Image below that and a box will pop up for your photo, left click in the box, and then right click your mouse and paste the url and your done.

Before I post another picture I will have to learn how to resize my photo so it fits in the screen.

The boy’s have had fishing rods in there hands since they could walk. They bait and take most of the fish off there hooks except Northerns.

It seems some people on this post are very critical about my Grandsons and Son-in-Law keeping these fish that were angled legally. These same people don’t even know where these fish were caught and the ecosystem that they came from.

The Bass out of this spring fed lake taste excellent any time of year, one of my wifes favorite. The populations of the different species are healthy except for the Bluegills that are a little stunted from over population.

One thing that happened on this lake that I have never seen before, I had about a 8 to 10″ Bass on my line last Summer when a huge Bass grabbed it on the way in, I pulled it out of her mouth and thought it was a fluke so I dropped the Bass back in the water and it took it again, I pulled it away from her. (Don’t criticize me for dropping the Bass back in, I was just checking to see if that was a fluke that the big one hit it)

My family and I practice catch and release on many of our trips, depending on the body of water we are fishing. Some body’s of water, depending on the ecosystem are better off when some off the species are thinned out, especially if the fishing pressure is not very heavy and the forage base is down.

These fish were caught by two of my Grandsons and they were proud of them. No, none of the fish went to waste. [image]http://[/image]

I have had good luck using Ring-N-Grubs that have soaked in a mixture of Kick’n Bass and water, in a freezer bag. The colors I have had the best luck on are Firetiger & Firetiger Core, Chartruese is another good choice.

The waters I walleye fish in, both River and Lake are usually a little turbid so my jig of choice is a white glow in at least 1/2oz, tipped with a Crawler or Minnow.

These plastics are very life like in the water and have out produced anything else that I have tried. they are shorter than the Super Do’s and allow a faster hook set.

I will second the Wild River in 8’6″.

I have used Fenwick for the last 37 years, they were made in the USA and over the years the tip had busted on my main rod a couple of times and the original 7′ rod was down to about 6’6″.

We were going to Arkansas to visit our Son last Fall and had a trip scheduled to fish the White River for Trout. I looked every wheres for a replacement rod and finally was told of a sport store with a going out of business sale in Pequot Lakes. I purchased the rod and it was medium power with fast action.

The rod is awesome and I believe I could tackle about anything with it. I have used it for Pan fish to large Northerns and it is very impressive with it’s sensitivity and strength. When you cast with this rod it’s like coming out of a sling shot, and the distance is something that friends have been amazed at, asking me the make and model of the rod.

I believe that this is a rod that anyone would be satisfied with.

Note: It’s made in the USA,

I think your missing out, I fish with a FL18. I used to think like you. There are so many advantages to electronics to name a few, depth, bottom type, are there fish? You can watch the fish come to your bait or you can provoke them into bitting. Which is part of the fun of being out there. Once you fish with them and get onto reading them, it doesn’t seem right to fish without it. give it a wirl.

I should of mentioned that I do use a hand held strikemaster sonar for finding depth and structure in the Winter, other than that I’m old fashioned. I guess I just don’t want to be dependent on one of these units. I listen to my fishing partner get frustrated when a fish comes in and doesn’t take his presentation. I always fish 2 different presentations, one on the dead stick and a different one on the jigging rod testing different depths if the bite is slow.

We primarily fish URL in the Winter with an occasional trip to LOW. The resorts are usually up on the depth and approximate areas where the fish are the most active, we try to get away from the crowds as much as possible in the general area and have done quite well on most of the trips we have taken there.

One other thing, I do use a gps once in awhile and there is structure on URL. Weather conditions pretty much dictate if you can get to these areas in the Winter with a wheel house.

I am still a member of the other site and I have to agree with the comments made here. They make you gun shy of what you can even post over there, deleting of posts is a normal procedure and I think members are starting to jump ship over there.

I started looking for a new site recently and found this one and am very pleased with the info and knowledge of the members here.

I will probably read some of the posts on the other site for a while but doubt if I will write a post on there any more.

Go to http://www.iespell.com and they have a neat spell checker that fits on the tool bar and is free. It’s great for checking the spelling when a person posts on a forum with no spell check.

    Thanks for the compliment Jack,

I’ve heard of 16″ Crappies coming out of there but I’ve never seen one. The largest ones I’ve caught are just about hitting 14″ which are beautiful looking fish.

If I get some 14″ during the Spring spawning run this year, I may mount them. Not sure how many more years they will be plentiful, the 95 year class is the dominant one in the lake, and it’s rare to get small ones while fishing.

The bite usually picks up toward the end of Feb, so you may hit it right. I hope to get back up next week.

    Hi Scott,

Just returned from URL this afternoon and the fish are scattered out in small schools over a large area.

We fished about 4 miles out this time, and alot of people are moving into the 3 1/2 mile area. Thats where we started this Winter and then started moving out to as far as 6 miles and now back again.

The road is out 7 1/2 miles from Hillmans with wheel houses able to get out about 7 miles.

I think it’s a little early for the Crappie Highway to start producing, maybe a couple more weeks or so.

Good luck and maybe we will bump into each other on the ice.

    Hi Jack,

I live in the Park Rapids area.

I just returned this afternoon from URL and this was the slowest bite I have seen this winter. We managed 9 crappies and 2 perch, with about 8 or 9 walleyes. The bite is starting to return to the traditional night bite, although we did pick up a few after daybreak this morning. The best producer was a #4 Demon in an off white, but it glows green or chartreuse when charged, tipped with a small albino minnow.

I was amazed that neither of my rattle reels went off during the night after I went to bed about 10, when I checked them this morning both lines had froze into the bottom of the hole and the minnows were stripped, that’s a first for me also.

I will post a picture of a couple of them in my avatar as soon as I figure out how to post it.

    Welcome Ron!

It was a very good post for your first. Just one question…how do you hook a minnow through the vent?

I just turn the minnow over and run the hook all the way through the black spot or butt till it comes through the opposite side.

This is a very fast way to hook them, and the minnow swims good.

Another thing we use in Red is albino’s, I think they call them Rosie’s. The color of the minnow is an orange color and shows up better in darker water, we always mix some of these in with our crappie minnows in case the bite is light.

Need to pick up my fishing partner,

    Ron

Please do let us know how you did!
