That private access has since been closed. The only way to access that portion of the river is to park up near the bridge and hike it in past the stumps.

Although I am not an unhappy MarCum owner, I figured I’d express my issue.
Had my Lx-2 on the ice yesterday it started beeping once every second and seemed to toggle between 20 and 40ft modes. I brought it back inside and switched batteries just to see…now it is in demo mode and thats all I get and can’t get it off…whats up?!
I’m sure the answer is going to be send it in for repairs but I figured I’d try my luck here over the weekend.
How many guys own an Lx-2? I don’t hear much about em
November 30, 2009 at 4:24 am #819219I just moved to NY for work, Albany area. I’ve been searching but there is no online info source for NY. That’d be great if we could get one started on here…I have some new water to learn!
November 29, 2009 at 4:58 pm #819068Agreed…I can appreciate civilized discussion, versus low blows right off the bat.
A key term, we are not “introducing” wolves. We are REintroducing wolves…they’ve been here loooooong before us.
November 29, 2009 at 3:28 pm #819042Since the thread starts off ranting and is TITLED about no deer=wolves…I found it very fitting to comment on the nature of the thread! You said it yourself, greedy humans with no self control.
Take a look at a map Mr. Clark as you can see Amery is considerably farther north than Sparta and I’ve seen deer all 11 years of my hunting career (yes that means I’m 23, no 15yr old kid for me). Get your off the couch off the couch and comment at a useful forum. I’ll take the high road and choose not to make assumptions about your life.
November 29, 2009 at 12:29 am #818942Just like fishing isn’t called catching…hunting isn’t called shooting.
Heaven forbid you guys don’t get 10 chances at your deer this particular year, I guess thats why they call it hunting.
Oh but there has to be ONE reason for this, and it definitely isn’t the fault of the biggest predator of them all (humans).
January 16, 2009 at 4:45 pm #738120Agreed, Nice report Rainydaze…now we are in for the extreme opposite end of the spectrum, 60 degree temp swing in 1 day, dont see that often!
January 8, 2009 at 4:39 pm #735306I currently own an LX-2, had it for the last couple years. I havent been dissapointed. It offers 1000w of power, zoom @ 5 or 10′, and IR rejection…basically the same features as the LX-1P. The link above has a price of $250 not $190, unless I missed some additional discount. I would recommend the Lx-2, especially if you can negotiate the price a bit, but either way you will be satisfied.
December 8, 2008 at 9:22 pm #727146I happen to love my little buddy. I tow around a clam scout and the low setting more than keeps it warm enough. The trick is to put it on top of a bucket in the corner, this way it is protected from the wind, and you arent wasting fuel trying to keep the bottom 1 1/2 ft of your shack warm. The key to keeping it from getting gummed up is to let the unit burn all of the fuel out of the line before completely shutting off. This year I’m thinking about getting a 5 lb tank and connecting it with a filtered hose.
February 8, 2008 at 6:00 pm #653283I’m sure they are found in more places, but I got my original one at Scheels in Eau Claire. The recent ones I got at the sporting goods store in Durand.
February 8, 2008 at 4:24 pm #653234Well, since it doesn’t look like many people have used these rods…I would highly recommend them!I had the polar bear UL for the last 9 years. I picked up one of their cub’s(performed wonderfuly on a 13″ crappie yesterday) and grizzly series last week. They aren’t too spendy either.
January 4, 2008 at 3:42 am #639476I feel ya sundog…hit the same spot 2 nights in a row last week. 1st time there was one permanent within 100 yards. 2nd day I get out there, 2 permanents within about 50 yards, still tolerable. I was setting up some tip-ups and the owner of one of the permanents comes up, says hes noticed me out here 2 nights now, and how did I do the other night. I reply saying I did decent on some nice gills and crappies. Within the hour, at 4 o clock prime fishing time, he had his lil yard tractor out on the ice and pulled his permanent literally 10 yards behind my portable where I was set up and proceeds to start ripping holes. Within another 10 minutes I have to listen to his girl absolutely balling because she wants to catch a fish…I was outta there fuming, wheres the decency?!
April 11, 2007 at 4:57 am #559413Eagles are primarily a scavenging bird….wasn’t it Roosevelt who proposed the Turkey to be the national bird?
April 9, 2007 at 2:13 pm #558723I dont have an explanation but I would like to point at that all colors we see are apart of the visible light spectrum, falling from 400-700 um in wavelengths. Infrared waves are not apart of the visible light spectrum, its wavelengths are 700+ um, so it has no affect on our ability to see certain colors….same goes with ultraviolet light
March 29, 2007 at 7:07 pm #554812Head west out of Balsam lake on cty road I, I takes a sharp right corner, but continue going straight..i believe its 165th st. About a 1/2 mile down on your right will be a short road leading to a parking lot and boat landing,
January 10, 2007 at 7:08 pm #520962FYI most of the ice along fishermans road is usable now…if you dont mind a little crackin
December 28, 2006 at 4:17 pm #515984After a week or so of using a Marcum (or any flasher for that matter) I would find it impossible to fish w/o again!! I iced almost a limit of perch and crappies last night as a direct result of using the flasher, if I wouldnt have been using it I bet my catch would be 1/2 the amount…sorry I cant figure out a picture to show you guys
December 24, 2006 at 5:50 pm #514877Thanks for the help guys, I ended up going with the Marcum Lx-2…I mean the girlfriend ended up going with that, gotta love it. So far not a bad word to say about it!
December 20, 2006 at 2:17 am #513150A solid 6″ on wapo this afternoon, was definitely making ice as I was leaving too, gonna try the apple tomorrow…
December 16, 2006 at 9:16 pm #512017Yes you do need to have a box, according to the warden we met on the water in St. Croix county this summer and said we needed a box for the batteries…he also said we needed a cover for both terminals, not sure why…(we also needed a throwable and a new fire extinguisher, glad we gotta outta that ticketless!!)
December 15, 2006 at 5:09 am #511544Apparently Wapo is getting in rough shape, not too safe of ice…I would guess that Balsam is similar. It is supposed to be in teens for lows this weekend so that will help.
December 15, 2006 at 3:39 am #511534Havent been up there personally, but heard they were running wheelers on some of the waters at the end of that cold snap…I’d stay away from the bigger bodies of water if you decide to go…wapo, balsam
December 8, 2006 at 10:28 pm #508886Has anyone ever used or heard of people lowering a string of those car sale lot flags or streamers down to the bottom. I’ve heard of this method but have never used it or witnessed it…I’m not sure if the idea is to attract fish because of the resemblence of structure or the presence of all those bright colors.
Thoughts?
December 8, 2006 at 8:37 pm #508825It is normally my main body of water while ice fishing, but wont be able to get up to amery for a couple weeks. The lake is pretty accessible and roads are maintained. There are 2 landings you can drive out from…Sunrise Resort on the west side and what used to be the restaurant on the north end. You can get to some good fishing from both of those sites whether you are driving or walking.
Anyone been out there yet, ice reports?? hows the bite?
December 8, 2006 at 8:30 pm #508823Whats the availability of customs jigs products in stores…gander mountain?? Should I just order off the website?
