Thanks, I have the Navionics on my iphone but I was looking for unit similar to the Lowrance Expedition unit where I can enter and transfer way points.

Is there a good hand held unit like the newer Garmin 62S that can use the Lake master chip or Navionics.

Curious about the crappie fishing in Cutfoot. Our family had a vacation in late July/early aug. didn’t cath one. We got into some nice walleyes on Winnie pulling spinners w/crawlers in the weeds when the wind didn’t blow us off. Heard some crappies were being caught but not sure what to look for. Are the crappies right up against the reeds in cutfoot? what kind of depth? small minnows under a bobber? or casting with jig and minnow? how can I connect on the crappies next year late July /early aug?

thanks to all. I talked with Humminbird Customer Service/Technical. They confirm the best way to read sonar at higher speeds is to add the Y cable and a high speed transducer. cost about $100 total. I asked why Humminbird did not include both the SI transducer and the higher speed transducer since most people would want to read bottom when running across a stretch of water and not just rely on a GPS Lakemaster map? They told me they know, but it’s not included out of the box. They should have at least made mention that they highly recommend to add the high speed transducer or somehow include it in the SI transducer. It’s a shortfall. but they do have a fix. I just did not want to learn the hard way and run a ground

Bought a 2013 F-150 w/ 3.5 V-6 Ecoboost end of Feb. Absoutley love it. 2-3 MPG better on average than the 5.4 V-8. That’s somewhere in the range of $1200/yr in gas savings alone. Have not pulled my boat with it yet. but the horsepower is 385 with the v-6 vs 380 with the 5.4. I am pleasantly surprised. nothing negative, except the XLT with folding center console does not have nearly the same storage as my previous 2010 XLT.

Many of the suggestions really help. The segmented leadcore sounds interesting. Please help me understand. a 100 yd spool of Suffix 832 18# LC has 10 colors each 10 yds per color. Starting at an empty reel, little mono backing to prevent slippage then filling the reel with 7 colors/70 yds of leadcore, then 20-30 yds of 20# flurocarbon, then the 3 colors of leadcore followed by 30ft of flouro tied to the lure. did I get that right? or are you just filling the reel with 20# mono then the 3 segments of LC? Also are you running the leader through a post or ring at the rear of the board and then tie to a swivel so the board can run down to the swivel without coming off. or so you like to take the board off for the last 30 ft of fight?

I have the trolling motor batteries running trolling motor only. The voltage drop starting happening when I changed my GPS/Sonar unit to a Huminbird that uses a remote GPS puck. Prior to that I never had my GPS/Sonar units shut off due to low voltage. I usually do run with my marine radio on. I also will turn on the livewell areator I replaced my starting batteries every other year. and this year was a new battery as well.

I’ve got a related issue and unsure which direction to go now. I have a 24volt trolling moter set-up amd a 3 bank charger. I posted this issue a while back where my starting motor battery was getting discharged while not in use. It was suggested I leave the battery hooked up to a charger while not in use since I havea remote GPS antenna which may be causing a drain . I’ve gone to leaving the charging system hooked up and have what appears to be a full charge ( lights all green on the charger ), but after 2 hours of using the trolling motor, livewell and sonar/.gps units I appears to get low voltage because the GPS/Sonar units shut off. The starting battery is new a 29 from Battery Plus. Not sure what to do. I’ve been carrying a spare starting battery just as a back up to jump if I needed to, but don’t know what’s cuasing the problem of how to fix it. suggestions?

    Thanks for everyone’s input.
    Couple of additional thoughts.
    1. I do have an on-board 3 bank charger, that charges the starrting battery when plugged in. I saw a comment to leave it plugged in when not in use. Does this reduce the life of the battery?
    2. Saw another comment to install an on/off switch. This seems to possibly be the best solution. How would I do this this, what type of switch? where? Is this easy to do?
    thank you

really lots of thanks for your input. One of my biggest frustrations with a low end unit I have is lower light visability. For that reason I have not used a unit in rivers which is where I spend 1/2 my fishing hours. St Croix
and Sippi. Ice fishing is where I would like a big improvment on visablity. Ice show here I come. would still like to get one under $300 best value for the bucks

Mike, thanks for the trolling tips. Do you use any type of line counter or are you just letting out an approx amount of line unitl your cranks starts ticking bottom?
Also are you using a kicker motor or tiller motor to do your trolling? I don’t have one and it semms my 150EFI always seems to troll min at+2.5MPH to almost 3MPH. thanks Dave

Mike, can you please tell me what your trolling set-up is for trolling cranks. Are you long lining or doing 3-way? bottom bouncers? leadcore? How do you avoid getting hung up on wing dams? thanks Dave

I am running the new Lakemaster chip. Why is there such a difference between Lowrance and Huminbird on the maps loading/refreshing while running across a lake? I have both unit still set up so I can compare. thanks Dave

I will try to zoom out further, but the unit really was not zoomed in that close. I have never had this kind of issue with my lowrance units. I notice the boat icon is in the center of the screen, yet the map detail always seems to be loading. How far out do I need to zoom out? I would like to see the map detail out 1/2 mile in front of me. Is that zoomed in too far? I upgraded to a 917C Huminbird because I like many of the features huminbird has. Is there an adjustment I can make? thanks Dave

At low speed, no problem. If I get under way at 20-30 mph, the top of the screen is blank, then the whole screen goes blank with the exception of the boat icon and trail.
This is a new unit. Hardly any trails in the memory.

after much to do, I have found my software version is of pre lake master version. The unit arrived with version 3.72. The lakemaster compatibility is version 4.75. Now I just need to figure out how to download from my computer into SD card and upload into the unit. I think I get the 1st part. but where or what views do I select to upload into the unit? thanks for the patience here.. I’d rather be out fishin than messin with this stuff.

    James,
Wade said the same thing. Now I’m tyring to figure out how to do. Wade sent me a link, but I’m trying to figure out how to do this. Do I need a blank SD card, then download from Huminbird and then into the unit. I wish the instruction were for dummies like me.

I bought the unit from Jolly Ann, Wayne mentioned that this unit had the updated software. I have gone back into the unit and checked setting in the chart view. All is checked in the 1st box and MMC/SD card is set in the 2nd box. The unit still does not display contour lines. While sitting in my driveway, I zoomed in on Lake Minnetonka, no contour lines or depths displayed. still need help thanks Dave
