This is how I feel about Gilespe
He brought me into fishing. When I didn’t know what was what, and was just starting out, he shows that consistently there are fish out there to be caught. He gets excited about even small fish, cause that’s what its about some times. He Hires guides that are familiar with the waters he goes to, and shows how they know their stuff. As someone from the mid west, I can appreciate the exposure for those guides and fishing in general.
As I have become more of a knowledgeable fisherman I find myself less satisfied with the show. When I see the fish being held out of the water for so long, and the constant (for lack of a better word) whoring of the big fish “Hold it up to the camera!!” John pushing the fish closer, asking a clearly uncomfortable guest “Howd that feel??!” Im more interested in seeing the fish get caught. What they are using, how they rigged. Found the spot. etc. Id watch a show with Pete and Tex in an instant, lol. They should Let John Retire. Plus it seems this winter that there was some less than sportsman like talk about John and Larry on Bago with that huge Walleye they pulled through the ice on camera. Something about catching those fish, then getting them back in the water on stingers so they can pull them up later for website pictures with the guests. That’s why the fish didn’t fight much when caught on TV. who knows if that is all true though.. Just the facebook gossip.
As far as uncut angling, these guys are the future. Love em. Everything I want to see. Technique, big fish, Varity of species, and keep it fun with stuff like this
Loved this episode. Crazy stuff. What lb line is the main line for that? Did you guys end up catching a lot of other species as well? And how do mn regs work with something like that. I’m assuming because you were on boarder water you can have the 2 lures but if it were open season on an inland river you could only have one? Just curious, very interesting stuff!!
Was it just me, my dvr recorded on FSN this morning and it was last weeks episode. Had to go to YouTube for this weeks
All that in depth info is great!! It makes sense, sounds like you need a couple guys willing to crash on hotel room floors/back of trucks. Living off of granola and heggies lol. I’d do it all just for the chance to hit those fishing destinations and learn all that expert info. But it sounds like I’d need to be able to keep my day job too?! Lol I’ve already got the strikemaster bibs and auger and marcum finder too so no conflicts with vendors!! ;-D
I asked the same question about Idaho. And I do understand the need to get back and edit the video. On the Erie trip I was thinking why go out so blindly or so few people? Get one local guide and bring the whole crew! I know it’s a thin line between john Gillespie and his party fishing. But a few more pros on the water for some of these lower # bucket trips would be cool imo.
the drifts on the side of that house looked brutal for one day!!
couple questions Ive always wondered.
So James calls this a bucket list trip, and mentions how you all planned a while to make it out there. Did you really only fish the one day? Do you stay more than one day? I always think, why try to make a 3o min show out of just one day of filming. Blue bird skys, what if it is better then next day? Sure those were some slabs but it seemed like you guys were waiting for an even bigger one
Dave is that a metal arm on your marcum?? And if so where would one be able to get that!!
What the heck?? This post shouldn’t get overlooked!!
What is this guy a vex salesman trying to bad mouth the competition?!?
Finally made it out to my house Sunday:

There is a lot of snow. The drifts were commonly 5-6 feet high.
I made a longer version as well

If youre just jumping in, and dont need the fastest, biggest, best.. and just want the internet and what not, get the 8gig 4 (not 4s) its free with a 2 year contract i believe. It doesnt have all the bells and whistles, but it gets the job done. I think for $100 you can get the next level up, the 4S in an 8 gig.
I on the other hand have th 64 gig 5.. Must have the biggest, best. LOl
I got this one and mounded it to a portable unit. Its really nice. you need a big battery though.
I got up to cedar on Thursday afternoon to find our dock 2 feet under water. Pretty crazy. Any fish biting out there for ya?
nice report Tom. We had similar results (Sorry, was busy hosting all weekend, and didnt get a chance to call) Lots of little pike, with only a few larger than 18in. I ended up pretty decent on the large mouth, with most of them coming right off the dock. as always, Ive done the best with just plain old leeches or worms. I had what i was calling a mini mepps tipped with a leech. Caught the beast below and a pretty large blue gill.

I went to a Tony Roach seminar on lead core earlier this spring at Joes and he said that you would not add the full amount that the lure should dive on to the lead core equation. He was saying for something standard like a salmo hornet it only brings the line down a few inches further from the depth of the lead core, and for a deep diver, maybe a couple feet at best, but definitly not the full amount. He said that the lead core line will actually pull up on the lure. I think the easist thing to do would be to run line out until you hit bottom at a known depth and then figure out the equation from there.
That would be why the guys above only figured in the dive curve for the length of the leader and not the entire length of leader and lead core.
Right. He specificly said this was not correct, and that the dive curve for 50 ft of mono or however many feet you are using would not be the same after the lead core. his examples were with 40-50 ft leaders and using something like deep diver that claims 15-20feet running depth. Again he said this would only add like 2-3 extra feet from the lead core. Just passing on what he had said.

We have a cabin on the lake, so I am there many weekends. this weekend, but not next, then then I will be back june 7th. I do fish solo mostly, I have just a small 12ft alumacraft, but it gets me around. always looking for a fishing buddy
I hear ya, and Ive caught my share of bass.. But im on the lake, i see the reports that it is stocked. Ive seen pictrues and heard rumors of 30 inchers in there.. Yet I cant even put one in the boat.
