While we are on the topic. What do you guys recommend for boots to wear. I have a terrible time keeping my feet warm in cold weather. Fall fishing in the boat or on the ice both bother me. I can pheasant hunt all day and have toasty feet from the movement, but when I am relatively stationary for a long time fishing, my feet freeze. Thanks.

October 8, 2007 at 1:09 am #614398I was up on Thursday. The water was up and a little dirty which I usually like. Unseasonably warm, actually hot, man I can’t wait for the sweatshirt weather. Best action for me was on the lake. Spent the morning pitchin and had a couple 23 inchers and a couple eaters. Changed tactics in the afternoon and moved to the dam. Myself and one other boat, unreal, I have never been up there with so little boat pressure. Nothing but sheepies all afternoon. I thought I could at least scratch a few saugers but to no avail. Water temps were still 63 to 64. Just too warm yet, pray for cool nights to let the fall run resume. Looking forward to the saugerama. OUT…….
October 2, 2007 at 1:17 am #612521Hey guys, I have been doing well in the mornings up around my neck of the woods. Water is up and dirty but still fishable in my Jon boat….OUT
September 13, 2007 at 1:56 am #607691I here ya Jason. I am excited about this “heartland” division since I am an “Iowa” guy. By the way, it is Rathbun and a good time to be down there for eyes’.
August 21, 2007 at 10:04 pm #602167As a Physical Therapist I cannot agree more to stick with the recommended rehab. However, a day on the water seems to soothe all my aches and pains! Good Luck and keep us working fools in mind when setting the hook. OUT….
April 16, 2007 at 1:50 am #561014Thanks for the update Joe. I caught 4 legal smallmouths last night with the biggest at 16 inches. I got the Jon out this morning on the river and caught 2 keeper eyes. The water is a little high and a little muddy but clear compared to the big muddy a couple of weeks ago. I finally caught my first walleye of open water excluding saugers. Sorry, tried plastics all morning and had to switch to throwing cranks to scratch out the eyes….See you on the lake in May…OUT…
November 8, 2006 at 12:38 am #497044Hey Ryan,
Can you remind me what weekend the tourney is again. Thanks. Captain Anchor
February 21, 2006 at 5:12 pm #422732My vote is for “the Hack attack” Greg Hackney. I saw him work a stretch flippin all day last year to win angler of the year in the FLW, the man has patience. If the spawn is on and sight fishing happens I cannot wait to see the weights these guys pull in. OUT…Troy A. Loeckle
February 1, 2006 at 2:32 pm #416555Dean and Chris,
Thank you for keeping the IOWA circuit alive. There is a great bunch of people fishing the Iowa tournaments. It will be fun giving it another run this year.OUT… Troy A. Loeckle
December 29, 2005 at 2:20 pm #407369How do these access points work? I have been contemplating a trip up to the pond but have only fished open water. Can you get around with a truck or is an ATV the answer. (assuming safe ice). Thanks for the advice. OUT…

November 26, 2005 at 3:22 am #399214Thanks for the update Doc! I have a 104. Have there been any new updates for these in the software. Thanks again. OUT…Captain Anchor aka Troy A. Loeckle
November 2, 2005 at 5:27 pm #393631Hey guys, I have heard of good catches coming off the float at night. Any confirmations to this? Thanks. OUT…
October 10, 2005 at 12:02 am #388837Thanks for the updates Bobber. It really helps us out coming from far away. I am bringing my uncle and dad up this weekend for their first full moon experience. Can you guys give us some direction. We are staying at Rocky Reef. Can we stay south or should we head East, North, West? Thanks again, you guys are so lucky to have great fisheries so close. OUT…

Great to see you made it out. I wanted to congratulate you on making the FLW League Championship out of the MN region. Difficult task to go fish against the MN regulars. Good luck at Winona. OUT…
August 9, 2005 at 12:15 am #377133Hey guys! The “pollution” is not the case. We had some real high water most of last summer that has moved the fish. There has been a lot of moss coming down but has been better this week. I live on the Cedar near Floyd and have been catching smallies consistently. I was up near the Mitchell dam with some success just a few weeks ago. You should do well anywhere there is a rocky shallow stretch in the river with some current. Current has been low the last two weeks. Crankbaits, topwaters have been working great. Good luck and let me know how it goes. OUT…
April 17, 2005 at 2:45 pm #357492Looking forward to a Pool 4 fix. You guys are very fortunate to have such a great fishery in your back yard! Looking forward to it Joe, see you there. Also hope to meet more IDA participants. OUT…
September 17, 2004 at 8:58 pm #321637I am familiar with the slough you reference. Have you tried to simply slide in shallower towards the railroad rip-rap and trees. Some of those fish will likely seek protection from the rising flows around that “structure”.? OUT…
August 19, 2004 at 2:27 am #317944Hey Ryan,
Great to hear from you. I have been following your travels this spring and summer. Great to get news from your part of the state. We had an average season on the GNWC, finished 23rd in points. Made some tactical errors I wish we could go back on, but that is tournament fishing, always second guessing your decisions. My dad is doing good and ready to go for the state championship and Lake of the Woods national Championship. I will PM you in the next couple of weeks to see if we can hook up for some cool ones. Tight lines. Oh yeah, thanks for the update bigesox. OUT…
August 18, 2004 at 1:20 am #317768Hey Keith,
That was me in the jonboat. I haven’t checked this forum lately so sorry for the late response. I have a friend who lives below Charles City and he always has more luck with walleyes than the smallies. I am in smallie territory. I have done well with walleyes when I am able to get up and down the river. Most of the time I just wade, so the smallmouth bite is better for me. I was in the big boat on Lake Pepin this past weekend so no report from the Cedar. I will try to get out one night this week and fill you guys in. Hope your motor woes are over. Have you guys tried a small outboard? I am thinking about getting a 4 or 5 horse just to get me up and down a little better. OUT…
August 9, 2004 at 5:02 pm #316188I would have to agree with you guys. James hit the nail on the head. You must be versatile on the water and adjust to the conditions dealt to you on that day. Boat control and versatility are important. I think we all fish too many memories. Be willing to change and adapt. OUT…
April 1, 2004 at 2:32 pm #299223I was there also for the MWC. What a mud hole. That was my first trip to Spring Valley. Too bad the conditions are not cooperating because that river is full of good fish. Good luck to the local boys. I have noticed you Red Wing area river guys do real well in the RCL. OUT…
March 12, 2004 at 3:36 am #296358Hey Bill,
Is anyone allowed to go to the seminar with Keith. Is it in Rochester? Thanks.
March 12, 2004 at 3:20 am #296354Hey guys!
You are right on with the St. A pool. Great smallie fishing. People do ski and use personal watercraft during the summer so you may want to consider this in the time you go with a canoe. I live on the Cedar south just below the Floyd, Ia bridge. Very good smallmouth, catfish, and the walleyes have been getting better each year all the way down from the Mitchell dam. Look for deeper pools and you are in business with the low levels the last year. OUT…November 9, 2002 at 1:17 am #247797Dustin.
Nothing but praise out of your mom. I am new to all this talk of ringworms and kalin tails. I have however been checking your old reports from last year. Seems you guys were having better success with ringworms last year at this time. Any insight as to why the kalins are working better this year? I have been down to Nashua on the ol’ Cedar and have caught a few walleyes on ringworms but have not had success with the bigger twisters, they are only hitting the smaller 2 or 3 inch variety. I have caught a few 3 pounders on the ringworms. I will keep you posted on the Cedar bite. I live right on the river up by Floyd so I have good chances to get out. Hopefully with Christmas a new digital camera will arrive from Santa and we can show off some of the nice smallmouth and walleyes that can be had on small river fishing. Thanks for all the good reports. OUT…Captain AnchorNovember 8, 2002 at 6:59 pm #247785Hey Dustin.
I happen to know your mom and work at the Hospital in Charles City. Good to see a local “boy” doing what he loves. We were at the dam with 3-ways and had good success with 25-30 eater size saugers caught using just a minnow and colored hook. We had the best luck with a floater just ahead of the hook. Also tried cranks with no success for about an hour. Biggest sauger was a 19 incher. We then headed down stream and caught 3 nice 4 to 5 pound walleyes to finish the day. Had a great time and hope to get back up to the river before the boat goes to storage. OUT… Captain Anchor.
October 18, 2002 at 2:58 am #247022Any suggestions for Sunday? Am thinking about exploring the backwaters up in pool 3 if the water is still high. Was also considering pool 4 backwaters. Would this be the right approach or should we stay in the upper end of pool 4?
