I can agree with everyone here as far as taste goes, but I think firmness of meat is a definite difference between the 2, especially in the summer months. Treated the same from water to pan a perch, bluegill, or walleye will have firmer meat than a sauger or crappie. Thats why perch and walleye are on restaurant menus for 15 to 20 $$$ and sauger is not. Any tips on keeping sauger fillets from late May through Nov from being mushy would be greatly appreciated!

Alex said your getting old. I told him you were just reaching your second, real prime of life. (not sure he bought it but hey, I tried) Happy Birthday from us both.

I think most areas I’ve fished the past 10 days 1/8 oz would have been fine if not for the blasted wind. 3/16 has been most successful in the conditions as they have been. Pretty much all the eyes I’ve found have been in less than 12 feet but mostly towards the deeper side of that. Hair has caught some fish for us but plastics have been out producing and getting more aggressive strikes. The big shad are there whether we can see them or not as the fish that have made the livewell have been puking up 5 inchers for weeks now. Bigger profile baits are not out of step with the conditions, but as usual, best try it all and let the fish tell you.

Thank you for everything you tried to teach me and all the things you taught me without even knowing it. Alex and I will miss seeing you at Everts and, come to think about it, we may be missing Everts altogether as our main reason for being there is now gone. I especially want to thank you for the enthusiasm you showed towards my son Alex. Your encouragement of his fishing efforts last year did more to instill a desire to learn to fish than his dad could accomplish. For this I am in your debt. Good Luck and we hope to see you on the water. There is always room in and right next to my boat for you.

Nice catch, again! Too bad you did not drive another hour to sit with 56 tourney boats and the usual weekend traffic on p-4. At least Alex caught a 22″, he just left the short ones for me…

So I guess you were laughing at me for cutting out early for the Harbor Bar. I knew this would happen! Congrats on another nice photo fish! You put in the time for her, its like Dean says, must be present to win!

The only suggestion I would have is hold the 6′ 3” along with the 6′ 8”. They are such light rods that the extra 5” is nothing and it can help you get hooks in the fish that much faster. If you do much pitching the 6′ 8” rod can not be beat. The only downside to this rod is you won’t be able to save cabelas points fast enough to buy the 2nd one!

Dave is the perfect fishing buddy. He is a great net man and he has a heated garage for his boat! He also doesn’t mind when I send all the fish home with him to clean, speaking of which Dave, did you eat the 6th fish on the drive home?

come now Brian K and River rat Randy, there must be some fair estimate on the wt of that fish all calculated in those sophisticated brains of yours. shoot us some numbers so we can start rounding them up to create that base number to lie off of when telling stories. We’d sure appreciate it.

Thanks Dean for the post. He got a real kick out of it! The fish was 27″ and 7 ib 9 oz. He released it within 45 seconds of it hitting the net with no regrets. Should be great opportunity to improve on this fish in the coming weeks…we can’t wait!
