All you guys thinking there is a difference in mono are mistaken. Check the actual line diameter of what you buy. You will see differences in diameter. The lighter diameter is more supple in cold weather. Much goes the same with fluorocarbon lines. Some braids have a outer coating to prevent water buildup which freezes the line faster.

This whole thing is a joke. I was supposed to get a go wild card by March 25th. Called today and was told now don’t know when it will show up. Typical DNR crap again. Just glad I got my 3 extra turkey tags!
February 15, 2016 at 5:30 am #1599916Costas are the best made without question. Glass are 5 times as durable and scratch resistant as poly. I quit buying poly years ago because I’d go through 3-5 pair a year. They’d be all scratched and scuffed then basically get thrown away. The glass 580 Costa lenses are so much clearer than any other brand I’ve worn it’s flat amazing. The difference I noticed was sight fishing in Louisana for redfish. Every guide down there wore costas and I saw why.
February 3, 2016 at 12:15 pm #1597597It’s been a crappy winter for fishing by me. Think I’m heading to lacrosse to chase perch next week. That mold really looks awesome! I’m going to call Ryan tomorrow and get that baby ordered. I need another box of essential and softner also. Thanks for posting the info! I hope they get into more panfish molds I like to deal with them much better than anybody else!
January 7, 2016 at 7:34 pm #1590658I assume you are referring to wigglers? The most prevalent mayfly nymph in deep water mud is the brown drake mayfly nymph. A dynamite perch bait used on dead stick for deeper basin perch. Many bait shops carry them in winter for perch or trout! They are awesome bait used on a light wire hook.
December 10, 2015 at 2:51 pm #1583683The cgi is from #8 fishing, 6061 is from #13 fishing. They are sister companies. To be quite honest after I reworked my cgi’s they are very comparable to the 6061’s. The gears, guts, and bearings seem to be identical between them. The difference is the 6061 being machined aluminum vs plastic for the cgi. They both out perform the eagle claws head to head.
December 10, 2015 at 1:20 pm #1583662What reel did you buy? I have eagle claw inlines and Tony roach that have identical guts. The only difference is aluminum spool vs plastic spool. The guts and drag are identical. I also have cgi inlines and black Betty 6061 that basically have identical guts only the 6061 is all aluminum vs the cgi being plastic. All of these can be drastically improved with a relube job and some drag work. Not to difficult. There are literally dozens of threads about how to tighten up and improve these inlines performance. I can say after tweaking them the difference from out of the box performance of significant!
December 9, 2015 at 8:39 am #1583269Wrap electric tape or foam back tape on reel until you have built up to level you want. No need wasting time with line backing. Also if using braid it synches into tape preventing digging in or spinning on spoil that a line backing allows!
October 26, 2015 at 2:37 am #1573194Change out grease and re-lube everything. Even if it’s smooth now it might not be in the cold. Take off rods and stick in freezer for a few hours. Now try reel and see how smooth it is. You can never hurt any reel by verifying it’s got a new fresh coat of lubrication. Better safe then sorry.
October 20, 2015 at 8:25 am #1572107I think the buckets weigh more to be honest with you. Unless you plan on just using 1 seat in the 2 msn shack. I like the buckets for movement and fish ability myself however.
October 19, 2015 at 8:29 pm #1572029I would never ever buy steel again. I had a steel frame enclosed that last 5 years and was basically falling apart. I pressure washed it often through out the winter to remove salt. 3 years ago went with the aluminum and what a difference. Both in weight and longevity I will gain. It looks brand new and pulls easily behind the wheeler to take on ice. The price upgrade is 1000% worth it to buy aluminum.
September 25, 2015 at 6:34 pm #1567729They are in the trees but most are to big for me to keep.
I tried for eyes also yesterday and had 1 legal. 17″ and 2 shorties. Water is really nice flow and level is good. Just need the temp down to lower 60’s still to warm.
September 16, 2015 at 2:37 pm #1565980You can try auto supply like autozone or one of them. Straight plastic thin washers will work better than metal. The goal is to stack them just enough so the star drag is more tunable. Plastic or carbon fiber is better less chance to freeze, corrode, or stick than metal.
They do not have to have flat sides straight round will work. Just be sure to lubricate them. Also make sure they are very smooth with no small knobs or burrs. That would prevent even and smooth pressure across the entire washer.
September 13, 2015 at 9:06 pm #1565429A guy getting divorced asked $2500. 2011 with 230 miles on it. Now it just plows out the driveway. I used the real machine on the ice!!!
September 13, 2015 at 1:52 pm #1565396I have a Polaris 500 sportsman sitting in my garage also. So your point is rather mute.
September 13, 2015 at 1:28 pm #1565393Some of you guys are about flat ignorant! This site is becoming as bad as lake-link.
September 13, 2015 at 7:51 am #1565367Never have encountered a dead battery. However the idiot is he whom is unprepared for any circumstance that may prevent itself. So in the case I did nave a issue it would not matter. I would not need to sit and wait like the fools without the option.
September 11, 2015 at 11:34 pm #1565259I guess that’s one of the many reasons why I own a Honda. How stupid to not put a pull start on any machine . 675 rincon can easily be pull started with little effort.
September 10, 2015 at 9:51 am #1564887September 9, 2015 at 10:30 pm #1564830Also as to you on schooley reels if you talk tournament success the Europeans pound you guys with palm rods. So I guess you should dump the schooley and get into the game. LOL
September 9, 2015 at 10:26 pm #1564829When fishing deep fish that are not tiny you don’t want it to take 5 minutes to get to the surface. Pressing the button on a fine tuned inline and watching it freespool 35 feet down is simply no comparison vs a plastic schooley. I own both and once you figure out how to trick out the reel you understand its advantages. Spoons, raps, pimples, run on braid to A swivel then a fluro leader fish better on a inline than a spinning reel. Lure free spools and line has no reverse kink to it. I’m done arguing with you about this. Believe as you wish.
September 9, 2015 at 2:05 pm #1564724Multiplier inlines work far better in deeper water. Plus they also work far better with heavier spoons and jigs. The old plastic schooley reels are better for shallower water. Everything has its place and you’ll see your icefishing tourney guys adapt the equipment to there benefit.
September 8, 2015 at 8:37 pm #1564583Well There is no difference between the guts of the eagle claw or tony roach. Same guts and gearing inside them. The 13 fishing 6061 and the 8 fishing inline are identical guts also. The only difference is aluminum spool for the roach, and the 6061 are entirely aluminum. I currently have 15 inline reeks and can say performance wise there is not much difference. The plastic models weigh far less if weight is a issue and keep your hand warmer.
I have pretty well come to the conclusion all these reels need drag and lubrication work from the box. I remove the handle and spool and spray with brake clean to remove factory grease and lube. There are several great lubes to use. Ardent, hot sauce, I now using militec but any will work.
Spray the bearings gears and moving parts of the reel and put back together. With the handle removed take star drag adjustment knob off. Under that in most models is a metal drag washer. Remove that and replace with a carbon fiber or several plastic washers. The washers I have are carbon fiber. Bring the metal washer with you to hardware store to get several of same size. If hardware store doesn’t carry auto parts stores should also have some. Install a few washers slightly thicker than the original metal one. Lube them up and re install star drag and handle. Your reel should feel tighter, spin far more free, and have a far more functional and sensitive drag!September 4, 2015 at 8:33 pm #1564086It’s evident that to be recognized at that level how good your work is. As you look at the carvings in amazement the guy who did them wishes he could make baits the same. I have come to the conclusion that I will have thousands sunk into this newfound hobby. All to catch a fish with a pea sized brain.
