Just wondering where the mustache worm is produced. Being a rapala product,is it over seas or an American based product. I have done very well with the plastics challenge this year. The plastics I have been using are made locally and I’d put them up against any plastic on the market today. Just asking with today’s economy and all.

Next time Jeff. Being we were invited we weren’t about to step out of bounds. The lake does show potential and we plan on making another trip next year to check on the progress of those crappies.

What do you mean snagged? I saw a white jig in the right corner of the mouth. Do you mean gaffed at the hole? If it was gaffed, does that impact the record?
Snagged as in foul hooked. Brian has shown us all some awesome footage of winter time cats ignoring bait after bait placed right in front of them without even moving.

Everybody drills out two holes side by side for sunnies don’t they?
That was the first thing I noticed. Why wouldn’t the DNR question it more? I don’t believe snagging is legal in Michigan either.
January 15, 2014 at 6:05 am #1379926For me it all started with a yell out from a guy just as I started to walk on the ice who asked if we fish with plastics. I was handed a sample pack and since that day I have not wasted any time sorting out dead bugs from a snoose can
The mudbug and mayfly have been my favorite design but I have done well with the blood worm also.
I have been in community holes were I have seen guys catching one fish after another on waxies, 4-5 inch hand chillers that is. Only yards away my numbers being caught at times will be fewer but, my fish have been much bigger. It’s funny how the little dudes shy away while the plastic entices bigger pannies to hit. And if one of those pesky little bug eyed finned critters do take a whack at the bait it stays on so you are not wasting your time rebating.
I’m glad to hear of others having success with the plastics.December 31, 2013 at 12:03 pm #1375507Sweet Potato mudbug has been a killer on pool 8 this year. You can find them on line at B-YBaits.com I also like the mayfly. Both are realistic looking creatures. Their baits are also scented. Copper and red have also been some good colors for me. The white blood worm on a slender spoon caught some dandy perch this last weekend also.
Good luck and don’t give up. Once you have your confidence built up you will not look back. The other nice thing about plastic, you don’t waste any time sorting out the black ones as the die offDecember 31, 2013 at 9:09 am #1375448I know there are a lot of guys that do not get hung up on the color of a jig when using plastics but I have a hard time yet just using Black, gold, silver or even plain lead. I like to try and coordinate the color of my jig with the piece of plastic as pictured here; it is just personal preference on my part.
However I have found that tungsten jigs work better for me when fishing plastic. The extra weight seems to help bring a little more life to the plastic by helping keep a tighter line. The tungsten has also help me with detecting bites when straight lining without any strike indicators such as spring bobbers.
December 30, 2013 at 6:21 am #1375012Plastic, there are no real tricks to using plastics other than building up your confidence while fishing them and finding what styles and colors fit you best. Once you start picking up some fish on plastic you will find yourself fishing them with more conviction and intent causing you to bring the plastic to life.
December 18, 2013 at 10:53 am #1372424B-YBaits and tungsten jigs are putting a hurtin’ on LaCrosse area eater size pannies. Sweet Potato MudBug and Red WaterBug on a firetiger tungsten jig were my go to baits this last weekend.
Good luck on the ice people.
February 25, 2013 at 3:14 pm #1145595No, Mike caught his perch in 6fow. I however did ok in a foot of water. I was surprised to find them that shallow. Thinking outside of the box made for a delicious lunch Saturday afternoon!

October 18, 2012 at 4:03 pm #1106026Iron on patches have worked well on my Frabill ice suit and StrikeMaster suit. Make sure you keep the iron moving immediately so it doesn’t melt the material and do not over doe it.
