I was going to ask what was up with Saylorville… We went out Saturday afternoon and saw the gulls following boats. We found a ton of trash north of the bridge and generally cloudy water everywhere. We assumed the heavy rains up north were flowing into the lake and therefore disturbing the fun… Is this just the natural fall progression of things instead?

Amoung four of us, we only managed to pull in one fish. Granted it was a nice big white bass, but it didn’t exactly satisfy all of us.

Anyway, we are talking about giving it another try this weekend, but don’t know where to look if the pattern has changed for the fall. Is it time to give up on Saylorville for the year and head back to our Largemouth lakes?

A friend and I went out from about 3 to 6:30 and got 19 fish between us. I too was hoping for a killer day, but couldn’t find any solid activty and found it too windy for my little boat in the open areas. So, I settled back into Marina Cove and ended up picking up several in there.

I know some people get annoyed when they catch something other than what they are targeting, but we weren’t picky… So, when my buddy landed an 18″ channel cat, we were pretty excited. Then on my next cast, I got a 20″ cat. Then we got a couple more whites and before it died down, I pulled in a 24″ 7 lbs. channel cat. Made for a great day for us! The biggest white was 12.5″.

    Unfortunately we didn’t have a camera…seems like I’d learn.

My wife and I used a yellow jig head with a silver spinner with a yellow twister tail. My brother used a shad colored chug-bug and his girlfriend used a silver rattle trap. All seemed to do well.

I’ve been looking at VHF radios since you mentioned that a few weeks ago, but even the cheapest $80 handheld is probably more than I could get by the book-keeper…

I’m in a 14.5′ Starcraft 1979 Tan w/Green and a 20 hp Merc–the fisherman’s dream! We catch fish and have fun, so we’ll stick with it for now. We were in my brother’s Gambler for the second half of the day.

I’ll let you know when we go out again. Maybe after work later this week.

Thanks for the update Dave. I looked for you Saturday, but went the other way, and chances are you were gone already anyway. We got on the water at Sandpipper about 11:00, my daughter smashed her finger between the boat and doc about 11:02…not bad like we first thought. When she was feeling a little better, we headed south and marked fish right away, but couldn’t get anything to bite, so eventually moved on. We ended up back in the house boats and caught several whites.

We went back out about 5 and found them hitting the top of the water like crazy just south from the house boats. Everyone got at least 3 in the boat before we lost them and never did find anything again. I’m hoping the warm weather gets things going again–those few minutes of furious catching was awesome!

Thanks for all the tips that helped make this weekend better than our last attempt!

Tonight’s forcast doesn’t look as appealing as it did a couple days ago. Unfortunately, fishing in the mornings in not too likely for me… I am generally limited to after work or weekend afternoon/evenings.

I guess I’ll hold out for temps to warm up again.

I pull a 23′ 5th wheel and a 14′ fishing boat with a Chevy 1500. It’s a little tricky, but worth the extra effort. I take things a little slower plan my turns a little farther ahead… When I was looking for campers, I thought you could through a hitch on any old camper, but the frame on fold-downs isn’t built strong enough. Now that I have one, I’m not sure I’d want to do it with anything other than a 5th wheel.

I went out Saturday after rumors of White Bass being so good at Saylorville and at the end of the day, between four of us, got a small flathead, a white and snaged a big carp.

I was kinda hoping to give it another shot after work Thursday, but don’t know what to think of the weather. Winds will be light unlike Saturday, but will the cool weather keep the fun away?

I’m not very good at finding fish and have a small boat, so can’t get from one end to the other very quickly… Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Brad
