Guys – I love my old Striker suit but I believe it’s equivalent to a Hardwater. Is the Guardian with only 50g ther made warm enough for all conditions? Or do I need to layer heavily?
Depending on how easy you get cold, everyone’s different. I’ve used every Striker suit except the Guardian, But I run hot that’s why I take out the removable liners in the Climate suit bibs lol. I’m guessing you will be around the same warmth as the Climate with the liners removed probably a lot more. Even in -40 I never had liners in the Climate bibs, jacket yes. Like I said warmth is relative to you. I know at the last show people were buying the Guardian suit like crazy.
November 18, 2015 at 11:17 pm #1578135I’m a Duramax fan, As a guide I don’t have a lot of disposable income and need a truck that will tow, get good mpg’s and be reliable. Yes, it’s going to weigh more but the + out weigh the -. My opinion only, shop for a low milage 2004.5 or newer 3/4 ton Duramax and enjoy great mpg’s, more power than you need and the chain clearance even with wide 33″ tires.
November 18, 2015 at 3:56 pm #1578053Great rod, I usually slip it over the center pole in the Otter and let the ceiling jig away. It’s balanced very well, it’ll deadstick plain hooks all the way up to 1/4 spoons with a perfect bend.
October 20, 2015 at 12:16 pm #1572184I have used these types of locks to fasted through the tow bar pin holes then a cable to the trailer.
Mark beat me to it, the long shank padlock. One for every portable and enough chain to attach through or to trailer. Most hardware store have a three pack of those locks keyed the same Even in the truck box we still chain and lock them on inner tie downs of the truck box.
December 10, 2014 at 6:44 pm #1482405I listen, I did not expect to come back from the ice show and read this, I apologize for my absence during the ice show it is a necessary evil in my line of work. I did have one of my guides on duty during my absence he is well versed on fish locations and did a great job. The Otter train reports I received when I got back were all positive, all caught fish and had a good time. I can assure you I work 7 days a week all season long guiding and finding fish, shocked that is even being questioned over an absence during the ice show.
Upon my return to Red I was informed the of the the shallow sand/rock transition group that had a rough time, the houses were moved that day deeper out on the transition and the Otter train had me back in the drivers seat the same day. Again, I apologize for my absence. Rest assured it’s the only time I leave this lake until Walleye season closes.

November 20, 2012 at 9:55 pm #1113733I had a chance put the LX-6 to the test on some sketchy ice last week and I’m in love, it’s the perfect size when standing, sitting or in a portable and has all of the performance features from the LX-7…Houston, the LX-6 has landed!
November 7, 2012 at 5:23 am #1110194We will be doing a video comparison as soon the 13 version shows up at the retailer (pre order), same jig free spool test, drag quality, weight, pro’s and cons of each, etc. I’m real interested to see to results of this unbiased test. I think the free spool test will be the best, will the aluminum spool on the 13 spool cause more drag in free spool or will the Eagle Claw graphite spool rotate with less jig weight…good bearings or mediocre on both? Cage match between David and Goliath We will see. It’s going to cost us $130 to do it, but its worth it due to the popularity of both products…and I want both on rods asap preferably with big gills on the end lol.
November 7, 2012 at 4:34 am #1110188I absolutely love fishing ice flies, I remember 7-8 years ago I was having one heck of a time getting the right style/patten tied. I Just couldn’t get fresh water shrimp shape/color right, not being the best fly tying guy I called a buddy (Adam Forsythe AKA Big Nasty) two weeks later I had two dozen perfect shrimp ready to start the Bull Gill extraction process. I for one am tickled to see over the counter options now available…I think we are going to see this style of ice jig really come into it’s own realm very, very shortly. It’s been a main stay in my Gill and Crappie box for almost a decade..not having to “birddog” them up wil be nice.
October 25, 2012 at 3:34 pm #1107491Depending on how they format qualifying for the championship it could be a good circuit, will top finishes at NTC and MWC tournaments qualify for the big NWT show at the end of the year?
If so you will see allot of good local sticks throwing in $1,500…and jumping in there Yar-Crafts and Skeeters. Nothing better than giving good local sticks the opportunity to defend home waters… Well balanced, true coverage tournament allowing all anglers to compete is what make a good circuit IMO.November 17, 2011 at 6:44 pm #1009895Quote:
I’ve got a couple electronic devices that come in red cases in my sights. I bet Mr. Hawthorne will be there to help me out.
Sure will I’ll be on the floor Saturday and sunday, see ya then Fife .
November 17, 2011 at 4:50 am #1009702It’s the place to go if you don’t want to wait for end of season sales, you can get great prices on electronics, portables, Sno-Suit, augers, etc. I’ve seen guys get even more % off if they bundle purchases together…yes, it can be a made house though, but you will be in good company
November 9, 2011 at 3:36 pm #1007660If looking at buying new I’d go with the best you an afford, You can usually find some NIB VS-620’s at the ICE show for around $350, I ran the VS380 for years and loved it, they are tough machines, but when MaCum flat screens came out..I had to have one. Either way I dont think you can go wrong with the VS380 or anything in the MarCum line of camera’s.
