Weather and wind dictated a lot of what we ended up doing. Fish were 6-12 ft for the most part and in the what weeds there were. On tourney day we fished flats with lipless cranks and ended up with a 3rd and 5th place from our boat. Caught a few in other ways but that was the primary bait/location. Weeds were underdeveloped for the most part.

Homeowner’s insurance not an option here?

Unless there is complete documentation then it really becomes impossible to claim – especially if it is not garden variety stuff that amounts to a few hundred bucks in total. Your rates will increase until you have, in effect, paid them back for your claim.

Have him check out the cranks I have for sale in the classifieds. Good stuff at a reasonable price.
Really sucks when people stoop so low, that they have to resort to thievery to get whatever it is that they need.
And Obama wants to outlaw guns. HA !

Sorry to hear. Where did this take place?

Not really sure – the folks that are mutual acquaintences live in Inver Grove Heights area so I would imagine that it is somewhere in the southern metro.

Quantum without hesitation. I have the PT Tour Editions and love them. Also have a Curado and a Pflueger President. Curado is the only one I have ever had a problem with. Have fished with nothing but Quantums with the two exceptions above for the past 25 yrs. Would do another Pflueger but not the Shimano.

For spinning reels, I would go Pflueger, Shimano, Quantum. I actually think the Quantum is better than the Shimano but since they tend to be heavier I’ll give the nod to Shimano.

Of course, opinions are like a$$(*&^s, everyone’s got one!

Try George’s Boat Repair on Hwy 65 in Cedar which is about 10 mins north of Blaine. They do boats of all kinds including Crestliner. They are actually doing my trailer as we speak.

I’m interested to hear the answer to the question about the Cortland braid too.

I guess it is all in what you got used to when you started with braid but I have just the reverse experience of many in that I tried PP after SB and hated it for the same reasons many said they did not care for SB…go figure!

May give that Cortland a whirl too but am going to get a spool of Sonic Braid as well.

Absolutely agree – Cubby’s was wonderful and wants to have us back next year as well. Hopefully more sellers and with better advertising along with improved economy then more buyers!

    Thanks for coming Al!

You’re welcome! Thought turn-out was OK for the first time outta the gate. Most sellers said they want to do it next year so we may give it another run up the flagpole to see who salutes. Got some great ideas and offers of help from the other sellers!

Thanks to those who came out and sold/bought. I came back with some nice stuff that I did not go with and a few bucks in my pocket. Had a great time swapping stories and talking about fishing too!

Directions from Hwy 10: Exit Hwy 10 at Sunfish Lake Blvd (Comfort Inn, Shell Station, Plants and Things are landmarks). Go north to 4-way stop. Continue straight to next 4-way stop. Go straight to next stop sign. This will be Nowthen Blvd (Cty Rd 5). Make a left then quick right. Cubby’s is log cabin looking business on north side of Nowthen Blvd. We will be in parking lot.

Aside from the use of their parking lot, Cubby’s is offering Hot Dogs/Brats for $2 and has an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast for $4.99 ea.

There will be a place to donate cash or canned goods to ACBC Foodshelf which serves Anoka. Ramsey, Andover and beyond. This is completely voluntary of course but it would be nice to remember those with needs as we sell off our excesses.

If you want to sell all you need to do is let me know – bring your own table(s). Contact me at [email protected] or PM me here with questions or to sign-up. It is getting to the point where I need to know who is planning to sell by the middle of next week at the latest.

Rain date is the following Saturday, April 25th. Check here if there is any question whether is is postponed for weather related issues.

Decided to experiment this year. Got a second stick that I also use for flippin/pitchin so am going to put 17 lb flouro on the 7′ and 65 lb braid on the 6.5′ – both rods are same manufacturer and actions.

Have had a Saturday/Sunday subscription for years for the ads mostly – saves way more than the cost of the paper. About 6 mos ago the Strib called and offered the other 5 days for free for a year so why not? There is definately a bias in most cases in both story selection/placement and opinion but generally I find I get more depth than the TV news with 30 sec sound bites and headlines.

My first ride was a 68 Chevy Nova 6 cyl ($500) which was followed by a 1971 AMC Gremlin then a 73 Chevy Monte Carlo. My first new vehicle was a 79 Chevy C-10 2WD with three on the tree. Oh and around the time of the Gremlin I also had a 46 Jeep Willie.

When fishing with a buzzbait always

    That trick never works!

    I agree…. that NEVER works.

Apparently it was a trick but not a secret….

When fishing with a buzzbait always have a second rod rigged with a senko-style bait. If a fish blows up on your buzzer and misses, retreive it quickly and fire the senko at the spot. At least 80% of the time you’ll get that fish. Alos works with a fluke.

I’ll toss in my couple of pennies….

Hooks I use are Gamakatsu Finesse Wide Gap Weedless in 1/0 or most often 2/0. This year I am going to add the use of a weighted hook for deeper water application without it taking an hour to get down.

You can use nearly any soft plastic from senkos/stickbaits to 4″ jig worms. Some guys even use tubes and flukes rigged that way as well. Hook size/style will need to grow along with the size of the baits so that you can get a decent bite on the hookset.

I prefer to use senkos/stickbaits and the key is to let the bait do most of the work. Let it fall on semi-slack line and watch your line carefully. When it gets to the bottom I generally dead-stick it for a short time then rip it up a couple of feet and repeat.

Technique works well on weedlines, pockets in weeds, open water, and most especially skipped under docks/overhangs.

Loved listening to him for years, read a couple of compilations of his “Rest of the Story” pieces as well.

I’ll bet he hears “Well done” when he gets to the Pearly Gates….

Always used Stren SuperBraid but decided last year to give PP a try and hated it. Tore it off my reel within three weeks and reloaded with SuperBraid. I guess it is all about personal preference and what you are used to. Could have got a bad batch also I guess….

Like you, I used Vanish Transition for several years but have finally become disgusted with it although the change in color was a nice feature. It broke too easily, shredded even easier, and picked up twist way to easily for me.

I have heard a lot of good things about Bass Pro Shops Flourocarbon line so intend to give that a whirl this year and see if the claims are valid. Be interested to hear if anyone else has tried it already and their thoughts.
