Also funding the AIS program are the Township and County tax dollars along with lake ass. donations.
A very good idea to ID your gear.
I had a bag with $200 worth of gear fall off of my tail gate and was never recovered.
I had an encounter when the inspector came up to the boat and I asked him if he was looking for villagers. He answered” What are villagers?” So much for training.
I have suggested that the inspectors in their spare time rake the weeds from the access.
No need for the use of a grabber if no weeds are present.
I have also retrieved my boat after a big boat power loaded at a weedy access. My boat and trailer was covered with fine chopped up weeds and organic material. There was no way to remove all of the materials at the access; so I had to bring the boat/trailer home and wash it off.
As the law reads I had a illegal boat/trailer traveling down the highway and could have received a fine.
I enjoy watching fishing shows and the excitement of the fish catch.
However the main reason for watching is to learn something and broaden my knowledge.
I have the 8 foot medium action stick that I use when back trolling bottom bouncers for walleyes
I am well satisfied with the rods performance and the price is hard to beat.
Bob what sonar do you have? This will help me with a rec.

See if the unit will air demonstrate on a hard surface. At about 28 inches above the hard surface you should get a 10 foot light on the unit.( max gain) If the unit will air demo ten feet or more you have a good transducer.
Nothing so far has been effective to stop the spread of AIS. The attitude is we have to do something even if it is wrong. I don’t see this is a prudent way to spend tax payers dollars.
Just make sure the house is well vented and equipped with a o2 detector.
Generally I have found over the years if you use the formula” divide by two and subtract one” you are pretty close to the real weight.
How about one of those little styro floats that are cylindrical? the ones I have are maybe 1/2 to 3/4″ long and maybe 1/4″ dia. One of those in front of the hook of your choice may make for a cheap, easy fix? The same float in your pic a few posts back….just thread it on the line and use a shorter hook (Gamakatsu finesse wide gaps are awesome for this)
We also used the floats in front of a eagle claw #84 bronze hook with a nose hooked crawler. The down side of this presentation is a lot of gut hooked fish. To keep the mortality rate down we would cut the line and not try to remove the hook. The disadvantage of this rig is that the hook can be in any position and you have to delay the hook set. The advantage is the air injected crawler along with the float will ride high above the silt haze on the bottom.
<BTW> I would imagine with a live nose hooked minnow the hook would ride in the up position. Minnow hooked from the bottom lips to the top lips.
Regardless of the hook position, once a walleye inhales it, you have no clue or control how that hook is sitting in its mouth….. I think you are trying to come up with a solution where there is no problem.
As I stated it has been quite a few years since we used the floaters. As I recall we had way more hook-ups and less lost fish with the rigs. The majority of fish were hooked in the roof of the mouth. This could be due to the hook position and a wider hook gap.
We used the floaters tipped with a leech,3 to 6 foot snells and a bottom walking weight. When a take was detected we would drop the rod tip back a foot or two and stick the fish. This way we would get very few gut hook fish.
<BTW> We were fishing a mud/silt lake bottom thus the need for the floaters.
As I said I have not seen the floaters with a reversed eye for some years and would like to get a few.
I did some experimenting today using a 5/16 x 11/16 inch rig float and a #1 aberdeen hook. The float was reamed to accept the #1 hook. A slot was cut in the front of the float to accept the eye of the hook. The hook was inserted through float then bent at a 70 degree angle( tried 90 degrees and broke two hooks) and positioned into the cut slot. The hook was then epoxied in place.
There was a floating jig head made with a reversed eye.
We used the heads when Lindy rigging with a slip sinker.
I have not seen the heads on the market for over twenty years.
I would like to get a few of the heads again.
My neighbor has a boat with a 60 HP 4 stroke. He uses the drift sock while back trolling with the big motor. The system works well slowing down the boats speed for back trolling.
I use Berkley power bait nibbles and power bait wigglers for added scent. Both baits work quite well in the soft and hard water seasons.
Send your lawmakers a email and let them know how you feel about the Trailer Laws.
I will be heading up to Lac Seul June 12th and staying at Sioux Lookout. We will be fishing Sin Bay most of the time.
Any info as to water level, water temp.,what on and how deep will be appreciated.
I have done the three at a time with a three fly drop shot rig when fishing for pan fish.
I had a fishing buddy who was constantly late always ten to fifteen minutes. So one morning after waiting ten minutes we left without him.
Solved the problem as he was on time on future trips.
I switched to electric three years ago. The electric has to be four times faster than the old method.
My inspection experience was painless and went well. The young inspector was very courteous and helpful. He helped remove some weeds on my trailer and looked over the boat. He asked if I had any questions and gave me a AIS pamphlet.
WOW !! That looks nasty.
We are fortunate we do not have much of a snake population in MN.
I have encountered a dock covered with land mines left by a flock of Geese. That was nasty in another way.
I use a medium action eight foot spinning rod for the BB approach.
My suggestion is to get some professional advice and do what the man tells you.
