What were you hoping to catch trolling with such a big bait? There are some huge fish on pool 4 but geez, I’ve seen Steve and I can’t imagine anything biting on something so nasty….except maybe a big cat. You might have to slow your presentation down a bit if you actually expect to catch any though.
BobJune 15, 2003 at 4:36 am #268606Beautiful picture, thanks for my new wallpaper. Catch any fish?

A Media Staffer missed a shot of a full moon during the day light?!? Must of been too busy catching fish hey Hawg?!! Thanks, Bill
Sure!! I’ll bet he doesn’t have pictures of any of those fish either!
April 3, 2003 at 4:22 am #262916Does anyone imagine the typical “dead beat dad” forking over thousands of dollars worth of back child support to get a fishing license? I don’t, it just seems like another one of those “feel good” type of laws that cost law abiding citizens time and money but does nothing in the way of solving the problem.
February 17, 2003 at 12:56 am #252404Jon, thanks for bringing this up and also thanks to FTR for letting it continue since it has nothing to do with fishing.
I’d just like to bring up the fact that before Florida enacted shall issue laws we heard from the naysayers about how Florida would be like the wild west with shootouts and such. Guess what…. the crime rate actually dropped! Since then 30 some more states have joined the bandwagon and crime rates there have fallen as well. Meanwhile crime in DC is worse than ever proving that criminals love an unarmed society.October 23, 2002 at 4:35 am #247193Wellstone has to go!!!!! Sorry if I sound like an extremist, but I’d rather die than vote for that little prick!!
October 12, 2002 at 2:20 am #246926Nice fish! I’m tempted to sell my boat and take up dock fishing. I’ve been all over that river and have yet to catch one that big.
September 18, 2002 at 2:34 am #246276I’d have to agree that 15 to 18 inch fish are the best eaters. As for skinfisherman, I’m pretty sure he’s just trolling. Trying to see if he can get someone fired up.
September 10, 2002 at 2:37 am #246110Good one!! For what it’s worth I did a half day charter Thursday afternoon and another Friday morning and we caught a total of 5 walleye for everyone! The boat held 25 people and was close to full both days I didn’t know fishing on Mille Lacs could be so bad! We stayed at Izates on the south end and I think they cater more towards golfing than fishing. I got the feeling that they didn’t much care if we caught fish or not.
September 4, 2002 at 2:49 am #245940I forgot to mention that the best part of an on board charger is that they will pay for themselves. They charge at a higher rate untill fully charged and then drop back to a trickle charge to maintain a charge. Over or undercharging is hard on batteries, with an automotive type charger you are lucky if you don’t do one or the other. Also most automotive type chargers will charge a deep cycle battery at too high of a rate.
September 4, 2002 at 1:33 am #245938I’d have to agree that an on board charger is the only way to go. Just plug it in and forget it.
August 15, 2002 at 2:02 am #245408Ahh, that’s my favorite trick! I’ve been known to slip and fall out of the boat several times during the course of a hot afternoon. You just have to be a little careful, if the wind is blowing the boat can get away from you real quick.
July 26, 2002 at 3:57 am #237228Speaking of missing details, I wonder how that road trip that a few of the guys took turned out. I was glad to see that Ford truck parked back at Everts the next morning but haven’t heard any details. Maybe they don’t remember either! LOL! We won’t mention any names. You guys fish pool 4 often? We’ll have to hook up sometime. I go south to Winona or LaCross once in a while but not often. Looking forward to next time.

July 25, 2002 at 4:30 am #240567I’d also like to thank everyone involved in making this happen. What a blast! I’ve been to all 3 FTR get togethers and they just keep getting better. I really liked being able to camp on site also. It’s nice to be able to enjoy a couple of cold ones without the worry of towing a boat home afterwords. It was great to see some old friends again and meet some new ones. I’m already looking forward to next year!
July 9, 2002 at 3:19 am #230216Sorry, but I’d have to disagree with that. As hard as we try we just can not legislate common sense. Why should I pay for a test because someone else did something stupid? I would be the first one to agree that we need to make those who do stupid things accountable for their actions. This reminds me of the accident on the St Crois last summer with the two power boats. Everyone was hollering about speed limits when the real problem was that the operators were intoxicated which is already illegal. I doubt a speed limit would have changed the outcome of the accident.
Respectfully Submitted
Bob KnutsonJune 13, 2002 at 4:26 am #244334Enjoy these times!! She will grow up way faster than you would like!
May 15, 2002 at 11:31 pm #242986Wow! I can’t wait to see the pictures, I’d also like to say thanks for putting her back. It’s nice to know there are still hogs like that swimming around.
May 10, 2002 at 12:26 am #242726Heck, I’ve never met this Hansen character but from what I’ve read your description was kind.
May 5, 2002 at 4:26 am #242473She’s still swimin stillakid. Not too many years ago I killed every sheephead I caught, now I just toss ’em back. I did consider a replica for a while ’cause things uglier than me are pretty rare.
April 20, 2002 at 2:13 am #241552Maybe we need to have an informal fishing tourney in hansons harbor sometime! LOL! I don’t know how big it is but I bet he would blow a gasket if he had 20 boats all fishing in there at one time.
April 19, 2002 at 11:53 pm #241537I know what you mean Joj J, My boat lost several MPH after I got a GPS. LOL Those boat speedos are pretty optomistic.
April 19, 2002 at 11:48 pm #241536I was also wondering if it was Hanson’s harbor. Hopefully he learned his lesson about trying to chase people out of the harbor!
April 15, 2002 at 2:14 am #241088Was anyone besides myself right below the dam when they fully opened it Sat. morning? There was so much debris you almost couldn’t navigate through it.
April 12, 2002 at 1:13 am #240919That’s too bad. I guess that would be a good reason to just CPR a good fish and have a reproduction made. I’ve been trying to decide what to do with the big one when I do catch him. For me 10 ponds and up is a wallhanger. More and more I am thinking a reproduction would be the way to go.
April 12, 2002 at 12:24 am #240916Hey Beaver, you should take a pic of that mount and post it. I would like to see it. Things have changed a lot in the last 20 years, there were probably way more fish of that size eaten than there was mounted back then. I would just love to get into the sows like that once!
April 3, 2002 at 12:45 am #240299Well…you know what they say about teaching an old dog new tricks, but I’m working on it. Now if the weather and them dang walleye would just cooperate.
April 1, 2002 at 3:09 am #240090I’ve seen it a lot worse! Wait untill the first weekend day when the forecast calls for calm and 60 degree temps. I look forward to the Mn opener, river trafic drops off a lot after that.
