We have a group of 8 guys and 4 boats that will be staying at the Red Door also…starting Thurs night. Look for us in Cabin 17 right by across from the boat ramp. Its always a good time up there and I can’t wait even if the weather may not cooperate. What cabin you in?
September 8, 2010 at 2:45 am #897976I wonder if he was also down around Clear Lake Iowa the night of Easter Sunday…I had over 2500 bucks worth of Rods/Reels stolen from my rod locker out of my Crestliner while parked at the AmericInn…I might have to notify Clear Lake PD!
October 31, 2007 at 2:19 am #620871Kooty, it was nice chatting with you Sat noon at the red door. I was hoping you would pound them Sat night! All I could think of all the way home was how much you were going to light them up! Take it easy bud…have fun with the little ones when you got home? bet they missed ya.
October 12, 2007 at 5:56 pm #616000Scott, is there a specific date or idea when the current slot will change yet this year?
April 30, 2007 at 1:40 pm #565943My wife and I fished the Musky tourney. We got blanked, as well as 90% of the field. All of the fish caught (8) were caught up by the grade. We stayed in the main lake and threw everything we had at them, as well as trolling but to no avail. Around 1:00 we decided to put on the walleye divers and catch fish, hoping to maybe get lucky and catch a stray musky as well. We ended up with 36 walleyes, most just under 14″, but we had a 22, 19, and a couple 16’s as well. The walleyes made the day turn out well, even without catching any muskies. We mainly trolled the north end, 10-12 foot of water.
April 10, 2007 at 5:53 pm #559168I am having the same exact problem as well. It worked fine until I winterized it and stored it in my un-heated garage. The other day I went out there to move it around and I had the same problem. I took a space heater and put it right beside it full-bore for about an hour. After this it raised no problem. However, after being back in the cold after a few hours it goes back to being unable to raise, unless you constantly tap the up direction on the trim button. I’m wondering if the oil can get gelled inside during cold snaps? I’m glad to see its just not mine and hopefully we can figure out a permanent fix.
November 10, 2006 at 3:29 pm #498236Never made it up last weekend, due to that thing called work! The bite’s been good though on our local rivers so I probably won’t be up there again until spring.
October 10, 2006 at 7:35 pm #487421I can verify that those guys pounded some big fish. I stayed next to them at the Red Door. Great group of guys and alot of fun to shoot the B.S. with. We had a guy in our group toss his cookies also fishing in those waves in front of the Red Door, but luckily we got him into the harbor and he ran up to the room first! He went straight to bed and woke up Fri around noon, seen the whitecaps still rolling and stated, “you boys are on your own tonight, I’m staying in again tonight.” Man he missed out on some AWESOME action!
September 28, 2006 at 3:43 pm #483692There are alot of birds down this way, most years. However, the DNR is predicting a 25% decline this year for reasons they cant figure. I’m pretty sure it will be another good year though. There are alot of public areas to hunt and most landowners will grant permission if you wait until after the first few weeks when alot of family come back to hunt.
September 27, 2006 at 7:51 pm #483385Do you mean Phil’s Myr Mar Marina? Does anyone ever use the large marina that is just north of McDonald’s in Garrison? We used it two years ago and it was great ramp, just can’t remember how shallow it gets after you leave the marina and enter the main lake. Anyone know the name of this place? Its got brown condos beside it?
June 2, 2006 at 10:20 pm #451061Hey Dan, I’ve been there alot can give you some info if you give me a PM. Mike
May 31, 2006 at 4:53 pm #450472Thanks for the advice…I’ve never fished it so I’ll be a rookie tomorrow if we go. We may take the boat up to Clear Lake instead, its up to him what he wants to do…school’s out!!!
May 30, 2006 at 7:41 pm #450238Taking my 8 yr old son down there on thursday and have never fished it. Any tips on the walleyes? I was planning on casting huskys and smaller cranks as he loves to cast. Thanks, Mike
May 18, 2006 at 1:16 pm #447309Thanks James…your right. Yesterday I was running 120′ back with Fireline 10/4 and not ticking bottom in 6 ft. I love these baits though!
December 26, 2005 at 10:42 pm #406710John, If I don’t make it up…good luck and I hope you have as great of a season as you did last year!
December 24, 2005 at 11:14 pm #406549Hey John…glad to see you are fishing the events again next year. Had a great time last year’s event at Bay City with you…if we only had a couple more inches of net!!! Thinking of fishing it as a boater this year instead. Mike
November 11, 2005 at 9:18 pm #396133I always wondered the same thing…will walleyes slam a crank at night in the LATE fall on Clear Lake? I’m thinking about trying it this weekend maybe Sat night if its not raining. I guarantee there will be literally zero boat traffic to worry about. If I don’t make it up, I might give it a go towards the tail end of next week. I would think that as many nice fish are in the lake that this night bite should exist also.
October 31, 2005 at 5:57 pm #393130Thanks for the replies, I just bought a 110C with the chip, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to get it installed in time, so I might chance it without. If I am careful I might be ok since I’ve been there before. Thanks again.
July 14, 2005 at 5:35 am #372939Hey John congrats on your season so far on the FLW, good luck at the next event and also Winona. Had a great time with you at Red Wing…Mike
April 13, 2005 at 1:55 pm #356577Big Esox, I’ll be up on Sat also, look for a Crestliner 202 w/wrap and say Hi. I thought most of the walleyes actually spawn in areas on the main lake, but alot of larger ones are caught immediately following due to the fact the DNR strips the females and dumps them in Ventura for easier adjusting back to the lake conditions. Just what I heard at one time. A few years ago our best bite in middle of May was in Ventura bay…go figure.
November 5, 2004 at 1:56 pm #326431Jeremy, looks like myself and the wife will be heading to Pleasant Creek tomorrow afterall…looking for her to get a chance at hooking a musky one last time this year. If you are on the water we’ll be in a Crestliner RCL, Thanks, Mike
October 30, 2004 at 8:10 pm #325987Jeremy, its been quite awhile since I fished Pleasant Creek, am I a fool to think I can put a 202 Crestliner in there, or are the ramps not worth the effort? If so, which one? Thanks, Mike
October 13, 2004 at 1:05 pm #324107Gary, thanks for the info, and yes, I definately practice catch and release. Your trolling knowledge sounds great, maybe we should discuss further sometime over some cold ones. Are you going to be up there anymore this year? If so, I’ll leave your “friend” alone on Myr mar!
October 12, 2004 at 8:28 pm #324018Gary, definately will do so, last month we fished Myr mar reef and also Garrison reef really hard, with nothing even following…have you ever raised anything good on either? A friend of mine caught a couple low 40’s while trolling for walleyes during the Sept moon off of Garrison, but nothing happening while casting for them during sunlight.
