The night time is the right time on White Bear. Only problem with trolling shallow is the toothy critters and loosing plugs. So make sure to wire leader up. Also as night falls those big under water points adj. to deep water load up with suspended walleyes. The best tactic I have found is to power slip bobber (lighted) with a leech. Seems to work really well for me in the past.
    Good luck

    AWJdad,
The best part about thinking about SKEETER is that, with a little effort you can be guaranteed to test drive just about any model in the lineup. Dean at SBC will line that up if your up in the MN area. Or DanO’s in South Dakota, or Shane at Great Lakes Marine. All of these guys would be more than happy to line something up for you. So you can see for yourself what you like and don’t like. Find any other boat dealerships that will do that over a four state area. I haven’t.
    Give them a Call.
Wouldn’t buy a truck with out driving it around a little bit, why take a guess on a boat?
    Good luck!

…and I just don’t see bass/northerns/musky saving this lake. Walleye reigns supreme up there and we all know it. RR

I think your right. I don’t see the resorts being full on smallie/musky folks. I like everyone else, don’t know the answer. I will still be making my scheduled stops up there, just as I do every other year spending my money at the resorts. I don’t think boycotting the lake helps anyone…..
I think the smaller resorts like Twin Pines ect. are really feeling the crunch, since they relied so heavily on the night launch boat fishing trips.
I still cant wait to get up there in a few days… its such a special place, I look forward to getting there.

Pretty sure that if you get a strong enough cross wind, it will wrap the water around your wind shield in any boat, if you are at the perfect angle. But when the trolling gets hot, ie. windy conditions, what I cant stand for is having both bilges run all day and standing in ankle deep water bc the ranger 620 spears almost every 3 footer when trolling into waves. Which is what happened to us last year in my buddies 620 on the POND. You talk about wet! At least we caught a lot of fish. Only knock I have with ranger walleye boats. Otherwise… nice boat overall.

    AWJ,

I had a 1825 for three seasons. And recently went to 21ft wx. I really loved the 1825. This is whats great about it.

Price- cant be beat it for what you get

layout- Awesome design and fishability is perfect. Tons of room!

tracking- react keel is something that has to be tried to understand

    rod storage- awesome.25+ rods

stability- doesn’t tip or rock at all

    The down side…

Definitely go with the 200hp, I had the 150 4st. and felt it was under powered. Still top end with 150 is plenty fast.

One of the biggest reasons for the upgrade for me was the ride. I fish a lot of bigger water, Misso. River, milleLacs, winni, LOW as well as NE South Dakota Lakes region. And it was definitely not fun on windy days. The boat definitely can handle anything mother nature passes out and I never felt unsafe, but my back and kidneys couldn’t not.

ALLTHOUGH…. boat is really dry. Never got wet no matter the conditions.

Overall great boat, great value. Just don’t think this is the boat if you frequent bigger water. Medium to small lakes or rivers? This could be perfect for what you need.

    hope this helps

any other questions let me know.

    Mr. Fellergy,
I think you grabbed onto the wrong part of my message. I Do not intend to name drop, or drag anyones name through the mud…. being the “figure head” of a controversial topic like this you can expect people saying good and bad of what you are trying to do, and the things you say.
Let me clear the air for all those conflicting thoughts on what I said.
I wish I had “sharpied” my name on all the donation cash I dropped off into your drop box over the past few years… maybe then you would realize that I am just as passionate for the lake as you. As you can recall I stated that I am very much appreciative of the battle your are fighting, and commend your spine for standing up to anyone. I simply disagree on some of the post you make online.
A few years back I happened to read a certain article on the star tribune page by a fellow who really opened my eyes to a issue that I never knew was there.

    http://www.startribune.com/sports/outdoors/blogs/135988013.html
Since that day, that article inspired me to help out in some fashion or another. I spoke to every ear I could find and told the story of your uphill battle against people who wont listen to the people. And if I lived in the Bran. Lakes area you can bet your rear that I would be right there beside you “fighting the good fight” as folks on here like to say. Unfortunately I live a couple hundred miles away so I am unable to meet you guys on Wed. Mornings for coffee and strategy. Trust me… wish I did live up there.
I simply wanted to vent some frustration from fellow fishermen from the area telling me “its pointless” “there’s no hope” or “no solution to the problem”……. Well Steve I do agree with you on this point…… if everyone gives up…or does nothing.. says there is “no solution” and leaves it up to the state…… The lake will slowly dwindle to nothing.. property values will plummet… no launches… no tourneys… no tourism… no resorts…..
Next time Im up the lake ……..surely sometime this Jan. I will double my donation and sit down with you Steve and whoever else.. wherever you guys meet and be all ears to what you think the next best move is.

Its hard to “rally” around Fellergy.. maybe the smallmouth petition was able to get more support in a shorter amount of time was because of the type of person that was behind it. While most on ido agree that something needs to be done, crying and kicking and screaming in the corner doesn’t exactly evoke “help” from a lot of folks. I think Steve needs to reevaluate his tactics. . You don’t need to be all gloom and doom, or jump down people’s throats for not knowing every statistic about the lake, sending rude or threatening personal messages to avid ML lake fisherman doesn’t gain support. ..it cripples it. I don’t have an answer but it angers me to have fishermen so all over the place on this issue. We need someone who lives there, has a level head, educated ambassador for our cause. Maybe someone like Tony Roach could get more stream behind him? Although I commend Fellergy for his efforts this far, and having enough spine to stand up to anyone, we as fishermen need to circle the wagons, and get huge numbers in order to get anything done.

    Pray for the lake

    James,
any risk of the rod coming flying out while on a S curve… or when you net a fish and forget about boat control? seems to me that if you turned on a crankbait it could pull straight out? or maybe there is a latch of somekind?

I have 1825 with 150 and 9.9…. Full load all the time. Set up is awesome for 2 guys…but having three guys behind the glass…. feels like your in a boat full of water.. really tough to get out of the hole… usually have the guy stand up by the glass till I get on plane.Once on plane…it is plenty fast, but it takes along time to get there. If the F200 was available I would have got that.
I guess it just depends on how much gear you usually carry, and how many friends you bring with.
I would never consider 4 guys in the 1825.

I don’t think you can fit all four in the compartment in the floor…. maybe without onboard charger in there??? You could run your three deep cycles in the floor, and put your starter in one of the rear compartments to the right or left of the livewell with a little re-rigging… they are always full of water anyways, not good for much else.

72mm rage rod…is ok for lighter cranks…. SR5…SR7. ….or smaller… I wouldn’t run led on it ever however…it’s way to light. The rage makes a great bouncer rod too!

The HD chip also has satellite overlay, and fishing information. I tried the insight hd card on Mille lacs vs. my Navionics , and lakemaster to compare. When compared side by side in gen2’s…. I would run lakemaster or Navionics before I would run the lowrance chip. Lowrance looked funny… Didn’t have but only a few of the flats labeled with names no matter the zoom. My opinion… Might save someone a few bucks.

I fish the same waters of the River in South Dakota. I own a MX1825. It is set up amazing for walleye fishing out there. On the windy days, however, I absolutely get pounded. If I did it again I would get either 20ftMX or WX. Love the boat when there arnt rollers out there .
