I’ve been out but not successful… I don’t get it. I can catch a fair amount of walleyes, depending on weather, pretty consistantly.

But, I can’t catch Smallies at all??? I am at a very frustraiting loss…. If I spend an afternoon fishing smallies I can pull maybe two? In the spring I was happy with my catches but I can’t find them at all now?

    Sorry, just a little venting.

I was out on Sunday from 7:30am – 6:00pm. We did OK. I wish I knew what some of you guys drive for boats I am sure I saw ya if you where fishing the Kini or Steamboat. We did good jigging suckers (4″) early and switched to trolling cranks in the afternoon. We caught about 18 between the two of us. Biggest at 20.5″. BUT we had alot of fun for about 10 min. pulling in a 26″ carp just north of the Kini. WOW.. it was so much fun and my arms were sore at the end. It was the biggest I ever caught and I got it on a crank bait???

It was wet but good fishing. Got checked twice for Lic. and livewells by Pierce County Shrf. at the Kini and the DNR at the Miss./St. Croix.

Well… I tried all day Sunday and was disapointed with my results. I found a school of small 9″ +/- Eyes in 21′ of water just south of the Afton Park Launch. I started with 2″ Powerbaits and jumped to 3″ when I was getting nothing but babies. I got two 17″ Smallies and that was it.

What can I try for Wed. Trying to get out before the crowd on the St. Croix. I will be launching at Hudson and distance is not an issue. Looking for some Eyes… Thinking I would try cranks along the breaks of the sand bars where the current slacks. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Brian

Hudson is still closed also… Funny thing though, when I drove by the launch downtown, a guy drove his truck and boat into the water so far that the waves looked like they where hitting his rocker-panels bumper to bumper! He still couldn’t get his rig deep enough to launch his pleasure boat!

I don’t have a problem about having a speedlimit at night of 30 or so and a speedlimit of daytime to be 55 – 60. With a system this big, you can safely travel 60mph. The people that cannot travel the river system at 60 can’t travel the river safely at 40 either…

This is just what I am looking for. The river fishing has taken me out of my relm. I am a Bass(S & L) & Pike/Muskie fisherman that has recently moved to Hudson. I have a great deal of fishing experience and knowledge with lake fishing. But the patterns for the Smallies on the Croix has me a little baffled. I tried my pattern & structure fishing that I use with great success on the Mississippi near DT. and Airport (St. Paul). But no luck? The fish do not seem to be schooled? Not holding to any formulated pattern… Whats up?

    Thank you,
