Ya, there were a lot of boats around there, but I didn’t see a lot of action. I only got one 14″ sauger all morning. I’ll be out again tomorrow to give it another go anyway!

I used that launch yesterday and had no problems. The markers are still up as is the water level (about 6+ ft in the channel)
September 29, 2007 at 1:19 pm #611974I fished around there yesterday from 4:30p-10:30p. I had a few bites, but “they got away” (I’m sure they were eyes! ) I ended the evening with only a few small sheepies. There were quite a few boats there last night and I didn’t see anybody catching anything. It was still a beautiful night to be on the river.
September 28, 2007 at 1:17 pm #611758Thanks Turk. What about depths? I haven’t been out in a couple weeks, but plan on getting out this aftenoon/evening and DO have some crawlers.
Thanks,
Bob
July 28, 2007 at 7:26 pm #594978Beauty! I’ve got the itch even more now! I haven’t been on the river for 2 weeks now and I’m not sure when I can get back out due to “other obligations”
June 28, 2007 at 12:51 am #584972I was out Monday and was pulling rigs with crawlers through some breaklines. I caught a bunch of 14 3/4″ eyes, some smallies and one 16″ eye for eating, all caught in 18-23 fow. I tried pulling spinners with crawlers for a while around some rocks, but nothing produced.
June 26, 2007 at 2:01 am #584147Ya, what’s up with all the 14 3/4″ walleyes?!?! I thought I kept catching the same fish today! I caught about 6-8 that size, one 16″ eater, a few small smallies and of course, a couple sheepies. I was catching most of them in 18′-23′ fow. All in all a beatiful day to be on the river.
June 7, 2007 at 3:46 am #578557I ended up going with the water spike and went up a size. I tested it out today. It takes a bit of practice, but after a while I seemed to figure it out and it worked pretty well. It was brutal at times with the wind gusts and heavy current. I did get a 3′ piece of 3/8 chain to put on it as well. I forgot to upsize on the rope, though. I only have 50′, which works fine in shallow waters, but if I tried to anchor anywhere over 18 fow It held for a while and then started dragging.
Anyway, it ended up calming down a little and I trolled for a while. I marked a ton of fish, but only ended up landing an 11″ crappie caught in about 8-10 fow on crankbait?! pretty weird, but tasty!June 5, 2007 at 3:22 am #577919Great tips! Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. It’s a real drag (literally!) to be on a spot, drift, and try and get back on in heavy currents. I’ll probably start using two anchors from now on.
June 4, 2007 at 2:49 am #577557Thanks for the feedback. I was checking out the Waterspike at Gander Mt today and will probably go back to pick it up tomorrow.
May 27, 2007 at 2:59 pm #575326Went out last night from about 7pm-1am. I caught a lot of wind and a big fat sheephead. It was still a beatiful night to be on the river.
April 2, 2007 at 5:03 pm #555978Great! Thanks again for all the help guys. I’ve found some decent deals on both the gps and the chip and have ordered them. The fun part will be actually getting to use them!
April 1, 2007 at 4:34 am #555578Thanks for all the help everyone. I do have one more question about the lakemaster chip. According to the description it looks like as far as the St. Croix, it only covers a certain part…? Am I reading this wrong or does it cover the whole river? I spend the majority of my time between Stillwater and Beanies due to the convenience factor.
March 29, 2007 at 3:17 am #554593I’ll mainly be using it for fishing and I usually fish the St. Croix for the most part. Hand held would be fine because I’m sure once I get it I’ll find other reasons to use it! Thanks for the feedback. I’ve been looking at the H2O also and it seems like something I might be looking for. Thanks again!

February 25, 2007 at 8:03 am #541287News like that confirms why I stick to having my boat in the lake, not my vehicles…..?!?! At least no one was hurt.
February 18, 2007 at 6:37 pm #538472Thanks for the referral. I have been leaning towards hiring him after reading all the posts on this site. My name is a combo of mine, my wife’s and my daughter’s names and my daughter’s b-day. I was feeling creative that day, which is very rare!
February 15, 2007 at 5:42 am #537171Man, I thought I was havin’ the severe itch before I read this post! My favorite times are both the late nights or the early mornings, when the water is like glass and no one else (but maybe a few other fishermen) are around. It’s my solitude. I’m also happy any time I can be out on the river, but those top the list. I’m still a rookie on the Croix, only about 2 yrs now, I’m thinking about hiring a guide in the spring for some guidance. I have found that the river is consistently inconsistent, which is probably why it’s called fishing, not catching! See ya’ll when the river thaws!
February 2, 2007 at 7:37 am #531696I can’t stand it anymore either! I have been counting the days until I am out in the boat….Serenity NOW!
January 15, 2007 at 4:10 am #522797Hi,
I prefer to launch at the boomsite launch, which is about 1/2 mile north of Stillwater. I like it because it’s free, mainly fishermen use it so it’s generally pretty friendly, and I can still head South to Bayport and other areas around 94 in about 10-15 minutes. It can get pretty costly buying bait and paying launch fees several times a week!
November 1, 2006 at 4:00 pm #494704I was out most of Monday during the day as were quite a few other guys. It was a beatiful day as far as the weather goes, but the fishing was quite slow to say the least. I got one crappie the whole day. I fished south of the 94 bridge for a bit and reports from other guys were similar to mine. I also ventured north of Stillwater a bit to check out a few spots with no success. I haven’t gone that way much and got stuck a few times. It was still a great day to be on the river despite the lack of success….
October 24, 2006 at 12:49 am #491839I’m not certain I know what I’m doing in the jiggin’ area either FWA. I couldn’t buy a bite out there today. I started out at about 8:30 just south of the 94 bridge and headed back through Hudson Bay, Bayport and Stillwater. I caught one small bluegill (?) with blood shot eyes… I’ve been seeing a lot of those fish in the past month or so. Does anyone know what the deal is with that? Anyway, I’ll keep at it for a while more as I’m not ready to store the boat just yet. I think I’ll be seeking you out for a guide in the spring Turk. I need all the help I can get!
October 23, 2006 at 5:04 am #491510I was also noticing how “quiet” it is in here…..I’m going to take that as a good thing. I’m planning on getting out in the morning (Monday) since it’s my day off and I need to satisfy the itch. I’m not ready to put the boat away just yet. I’ll be in a 16 ft Tracker Pro Guide with an IDA sticker on the tail. Please say hello if anyone else is out.
September 25, 2006 at 12:21 am #482117I’m new to this site as well and have had a great experience so far. I think this site is a phenomenal resource and so are the people that use it. The only way to gain any respect is to be respectful. That’s my two cents for whatever that’s worth!
