I’m on US 30 in Indiana, we fished pockets at 5′ tonight with 4″. But we didn’t get any snow to speak of with the last storm.
December 11, 2009 at 2:52 pm #822576keep the updates coming.
I’m going out this evening here in Indiana to test the rods out for the season.
We would like to get up there the weekend before Christmas.November 8, 2009 at 3:56 pm #814592I cant believe you guys have time to eat with all the deer you have up north?
November 4, 2009 at 8:53 pm #813965I saw an ice house made from aluminum/tin coated styrofoam. I’m not sure what it was called, but I think he got it as scrap from an RV manufacture.
October 28, 2009 at 12:24 am #812065put the big boat away and use a smaller boat. Lighter weight so you can pull it out easier on a slick ramp or manhandle it on the trailer if it didnt get loaded straight. Plus thers no well or bilge pump to worry about. Say a 14’V with a 15hp tiller.

We’ve been experiencing the same thing on pool 14 for the last 10 years or so. Pool 13 has a tons of shallow grass flat acres, and the weeds and grass usually start in late September and go on all fall, on and off.
I believe another reason for the increase here is the water quality of the river. With better farming practices and better pollution control up and down the river. Talking to some really old timers around here, this grass flow was normal here even before the lock and dam system was in place. Herbicide runoff and other pollutants where blamed by them for “killing off” the river. Now the chemicals used are better and less transient, the application rates more controlled, and the river greener.
Don’t get me wrong, I get very frustrated with the grass and weeds, but take it as part of what mother nature has provided, not as a nusiance caused by duck enthusiasts.
good point, but all this should make the river less green. (don’t get me started on phosphorus run off…. Its nearly impossible for P to leach out of the soil. )
October 20, 2009 at 3:34 am #810299Right. We’ve only been going up there for 7 years or so. But every year they seem to get worse.
It’s a little more than frustrating when you get a wad of grass the size of a baseball or cantaloupe at close to every toss. But thank goodness for fireline! Some of those clumps might break the normal mono…
October 13, 2009 at 1:16 pm #808883They said there was hardly any grass. Lots of cats, and still the occasional big perch.

The sad news is it grew over the phone. The actual measurements were 27″ at 8.5 lbs. (still a real nice fish) They also didn’t have a camera or net with them. So they just have a cel phone picture.
I guess the netting was interesting. They had a friend fishing up in the current that they yelled to. he made a pass by their boat and netted it out of his. (thats what all the commotion was about when they called) Probably looked like a circus act.
July 13, 2009 at 2:53 pm #790116doesn’t hurt to toss a tight-line out with just a big egg sinker and a night crawler.

I had to read it three times before I read it rightalthough I’ve heard the fishing was pretty close to hell early on this season
February 19, 2009 at 3:16 pm #750363My older sled has a hitch that looks like an old door hinge. Bolt one side under the seat and leave the other end out.
February 18, 2009 at 1:44 am #749659check the slides too. May as well do it all at once since it’s out.
If you have problems getting the suspension back in, use a ratchet strap to collapse the rear.

thanks. Heading that way next weekend.
skipping this weekend due to the forecast, We’re going to look at the 27th-1stFebruary 14, 2009 at 5:23 pm #748439There needs to be a sign posted about letting your trailer drip dry in freezing temps and the possibility of icy conditions. Seems to be common sense, but for some it takes the trailer wrapped around their truck to learn.
February 14, 2009 at 5:16 pm #748435Pretty much everything about it. It’s different every time. Sometimes you’re alone, sometimes your with family or friends. Sometimes everything is in place and everything is biting. Other times you’d almost wish you would have stayed home…. But then you wouldn’t be fishing if you stayed home so you tuff it out and deal with the headache, numb fingers, wet feet, and tangled lines.
February 14, 2009 at 3:39 pm #748397caught a nice fat 27″ eye last fall below the Genoa damn. Took a few pictures and put it back.
Come to find out, any male born before 1958 needs be required to take a training course in the operation of any camera, cell phone, gps, etc….February 9, 2009 at 4:30 am #746210If it’s like some of the older Fords, you’ll have to take the hood off to replace the motor. If you do, make sure you mark where the hood bolts are or make sure you can see the spot in the paint.
