If you like to fish from the front the boat the Ultrex is superior to the Terova or Ultera. All great motors but the foot pedal on the Ultrex is awesome.
There should be a small 3amp fuse in the head of the trolling motor. I’ve had that go bad and cause interference before.

not quite the twin cities but just south of Rochester.
I’m looking for a scope for the Savage 220 as well. I have the BDC reticle scopes on a couple muzzle loaders and they work fine, but the 220 shoots pretty flat and I’d rather not mess with them on this gun. I’m interested to hear what others suggest as well. The gun I won is the camo version, would be nice to match it up with a decent camo scope.
I watched it last night on my Roku via Youtube. Not sure if that’s what they are talking about but it worked flawlessly.
Check out Kick A$$ Jerky. Not sure if they sell it in the cities, but I know you can order it online…. I love it. Their Peppered is great as is the rest of their flavors.
I’m not sure on exact numbers but with my Etec 250 I usually factor a 50/1 ratio. Every 50 gallons of gas I add another gallon of oil – give or take a bit. Fill up the reservoir before you leave, take an extra couple gallons with you and keep one in the boat for emergency use. if you don’t use it you can always bring it home.
I just posted an add in the classifieds for a pair of Costas with the copper lenses. I’ve had a few pairs and copper is my favorite. I don’t do a ton of site fishing but from the dock or in shallow water the difference is amazing. Even my 4 yr old daughter wants to borrow them when we’re at the cabin so she can see the sunfish better. Check them out, well worth the money!
I switched to Blackhorn 209 powder this year and will never look back. You don’t get the sludge ring at the bottom of the barrel like you do with the Triple 7 pellets. I shoot that with the TC Shockwave bullets as well and they are very accurate out of the two TC muzzleloaders I have. Put a Nikon BDC scope on it and you have a solid 200-250 yard gun.
Now we just need MN to start allowing scopes during the muzzle loader season!
You can river fish any day of the year but you only get a handful of days to deer hunt. I’d be in the woods. Shoot a deer in the morning and go fishing in the afternoon…Backstraps and fish for dinner.
saw these for sale on another site…

Kooty,
I’ve been hunting in the 300 zone for 20+ years. Right now there are pockets of deer and there are some areas with less deer than people would like to see. Just like anywhere else. We’ve also had a couple “old fashioned” winters where we’ve had a decent amount of snow and cold. That doesn’t help a deer herd.
Over the last 5 years we’ve watched our deer numbers go from decent, to good and back to poor. last year we never fired a gun or launched an arrow. We never even had pictures of a decent buck. Very unlikely for the area we hunt. This year things have really bounced back. Numbers seem to be increasing and the amount of bucks on our farm looks promising.
I think the deer population is reliant on so many factors it’s hard to pinpoint one thing and call blame to it. You can bundle weather, coyote population, hunter success, change in habitat, lack of winter forage and I’m sure 20 other variables.
I do tend to agree that moving the MN gun season out of the peak of the rut would increase the amount of mature bucks in MN. It’s a no-brainer, just look at the states around us for example. On the other hand, I know how fun the woods can be in early November and I know how tradition works for some people.
The DNR will never satisfy everybody, but I’m happy with the way things are currently looking around the area I hunt.
I duck hunted the big horn river in Montana several years ago. we brought along a bunch of stick baits and the trout attacked them. This was in December-January but I’m guessing they would still work in November. We went to the nearest town looking for more Rapalas while we were there and they didn’t have a single one. All we could find was fly fishing gear.
@deertracker That right brow tine has given me nightmares for years! It’s amazing how trail cameras have changed hunting. For the most part these bucks are so elusive that I would never know they are living in the area, but after getting a couple years worth of pictures I feel like I really start to know the deer. It was a sad day when I saw the wide 8 in the back of another hunter’s truck, but rewarding that I was finally able to see the buck up close. He was a unique deer that hopefully was able to spread his genes many times.
We watched this buck for 4 years I think. I even had him at 40 yards but couldn’t get a shot. A neighbor ended up getting him while I was at work, just a few hours after I had trail cam video of him working a scrape on our land. He was a great buck and a challenge to hunt.
I looked and couldn’t find it. I found the RAM mount for it but no power.
I might have one. I know it was in my garage not that long ago but I don’t remember if kept it or tossed it. I’ll try to check when I get home from work.
I’m not sure how accurate this is, but seems pretty close.

Why are all the monster buck photos out of focus ? Or do you think its just coincidental
It’s because people don’t bother with real cameras anymore and take every picture with their phones. Picture quality has gone down drastically in the last few years I think.

If they closed lake Zumbro to winter travel how would the woman I saw last winter driving 60 mph down the lake make it to Rochester in time for happy hour?
Check out the ThermaCare Heat wraps. I’ve used them for fishing and hunting. They wrap around your waste and heat your entire lower back. It’s amazing how well they work.
I watched a show on tv the other night, I think it was Midwest Whitetail, where they talked about culling older bucks that are essentially pushing younger bucks with more potential off the farm. I think they called them “bully bucks”. They are not culling for genetics but more for herd management. They made the point that the doe also carries half of the genetic makeup of a buck fawn, which is impossible to manage. I think both methods could be valid and seem to make sense when trying to grow big bucks, but in the wild on most pieces of property it’s a very difficult to accomplish. Right now I have a couple older 8 pointers around the area I hunt and a couple younger 10 pointers, one 8 pointer in particular seems to rule the roost…if he comes close enough this year he’ll have to go down.
Interesting topic either way.
