Try looking under the hood in the fuse box. May need to replace brake fuse there. Mine blows a few times a year.
May 10, 2006 at 3:41 pm #445022Sometimes have good luck on opener in front of Dutchmans bluff in 30-40 feet lindy rigging with long leaders.
July 11, 2005 at 2:18 am #372226Try the Purist from Pflueger. 8 ball bearings and only weighs 7.9 ounces. It costs $79. I am trying one out this year, and I am very happy with it so far. Combined with a 6’6″ St Croix MH rod casts great and is light as a feather. It is great for worm fishing.
July 11, 2005 at 2:12 am #372224Good Point,
I think I will Start out Bassin, than go for a pig at French in the afternoon.July 9, 2005 at 11:16 pm #372123If you have a Fleet Farm near you, I beleive they carry trolling motor wire kits in 6 guage 20 ft long. Also, I used to have my battery in front, but it seemed that they would not last very long. I beleive that a lot of bouncing and jolts from traveling over rough water shorten the life. (just a theory).
June 30, 2005 at 6:41 pm #370935I have been out three times on French. I boated a 37 incher and have had some nicer follows(45 -48 incher). The water is starting to get greener and greener. Last week, A kid told me he caught and released a 51 incher. I saw him and his partner trolling, but would also cast once and a while. Big maribou bucktails have been my best lure.
September 29, 2004 at 11:40 pm #322856Start out in open water and if there is any wind, be sure it is behind you. Set tensions as stated above, and with a heavier lure, cast overhead using some arc. Stop the spool with your thumb just before it hits the water. Use a follow through motion keeping your rod tip pointed at the lure. Use an easy casting line such as stren 10-14# test. A longer rod(6’6″) with at least a 6 inch handle is easier to cast. Use both hands and be smooth. Don’t forget to use some arc at the beginning. How to get out backlashes might be a new thread.
September 27, 2004 at 1:40 am #322510I may be getting over to Whitewater on Friday for some hunting. I will report on flush counts of proven spots.

September 24, 2004 at 12:13 am #3549I want a rack that looks like the “Zaft buck”. I think it is the most awsome from a front view.

September 24, 2004 at 12:05 am #322311Another option is the southeast MN birds where the bird counts are a little more stable from year to year and no hunting pressure(except myself and a few). But then again, I think moving 5 birds and getting 3 is very good.

August 31, 2004 at 11:21 pm #319656It looks like it from the road as I pass that lake. Shields water level dropping. Fished a good half day on Monday with one bite and a 2lb drum. Cold front conditions.
August 21, 2004 at 1:45 pm #3183198lbs.1ounce. I caught one that was probably 9ish but did not weigh it.
August 21, 2004 at 1:37 pm #318318My vote for a low budget spinning reel that has good sensitivity, light, and some backbone is the Rapala Long Cast Series. $39.
August 17, 2004 at 5:29 pm #317677I will be pounding the grouse a little harder this year in the southeast with my 6 month golden. The bird population is good and hopefully he will be as good as my former golden.

August 17, 2004 at 5:11 pm #317673Avid is my favorite blank as well. Mike, from “Hooked” has found me an avid saltwater blank to make a 6×6 heavy worm rod. He told me that he prefers the “salty” blanks for lightness and sensories. I can’t wait till it’s ready
August 17, 2004 at 3:01 pm #317650In the mean time, I picked up a Gander Mountain 6×6 pro select im8 heavy action baitcasting that feels pretty good. It was on sale for $10 off. Total price $49.99. Seems like a great value. I’ll give it a test run on some bass.
August 17, 2004 at 2:53 pm #317649I contacted St.Croix and they told me to send them in and that there may be no charge on the repair, or that if there is, it would be $15 plus $10 shipping.
August 16, 2004 at 4:29 pm #317523Thank’s for the replies. One rod is an avid and one is a premier. I am getting a custom built from Mike, so when I pick it up this week, I will ask his advice. Gary, you are the first person that I have heard that had a bad experience with St. Croix. I will contact St.Croix about my problems and see what they have to say. I only have 4 others that will probably cost me a big fish sometime and am now wondering about future purchases.
August 11, 2004 at 3:36 pm #316660JAKE,
If you are looking for big pike in the Zumbro, perhaps you need to throw bigger lures. I would try throwing 6 to 8 inch silver colored jerk baits parallel to steep shorelines and across deep points, and also in some of the “bays”. Try this for a full day. I do tend to agree with you, however, that i have only caght a few larger pike while casting for bass. How do you get that cool green face
