Aren’t ski’s just coming out of spawning around this time? From what i’ve seen they usually hang in the shallows. Do they roam the deeper water spots with 10-15′ reefs right away after? Have not tried targeting deeper bodies with reefs during opener before, but curiosty lurks. Have not hit muskys hard yet but I believe this season seems bright.

The goto for me is mepps!

Ok…I can picture it, sort of like a cross-over. Used to work with car audio amps and stuff. Only a few more questions left after that. As for the batteries, since I’m leaning cheap, would you recommend walmarts 27DC or 29 or Max for this setup…I guess either of those will be fine in price because they don’t breakt he bank. Second, future reference if I wanted 24v Bow trolling, can both bow and transome trolling work off the two batteries? I usually run 3 batteries in my boat cause of one weaker battery… so I’m used to it. Starting takes all electric lights and gadgets.

Thanks Dave. Now will it still be ok to hook my 12v bow mount with one of them? or am I going to be stuck with 4 batteries in the boat? 1 starting, 1 12v, 2 for 24v?

Dude…metro is loaded. Try Coon Rapids dam, good place to try out everyonce in a while. Theres a spot off 694, north a bit on east river road i believe its called. A run off and around this time there should be loads of giant carp schooling. There’s also occasional channels and smallies. I use to hit moore in the summer for fun, lotta toothy guys in there thats willing to take everything you throw at them. I believe pool 1 is CR dam and below to st. paul area, next lock. Then its pool 2 therefore following.

Thx Gary! Thats exactly the answer that I was looking for. Some guys I talked to did mention that “you can find all the answers about rivets from people who work on planes” Thanks for the info. Now hopefully we can find a compressor and air hammer, thought I saw one onsale at an autopart store for 10 bucks. That should help a lot, supposed to be replacing a lot of rivets.

Thats good info. Should we drill the old rivet out? or sand it down? Some peeps say its bad to misdrill, creating a new hole? And to clearify, the head goes on the outside of the boat? Put mallet on the shank (inside of boat), hammer the head therefore the shank will flatten out?

Gosh only if price was not an issue. I’ve have been looking at used boats also, but too many out there. Not sure what to look for. Any info to look forward to if I am looking at a used boat? What lenth/type of boat would work for bigger waters. What size motor? Which brand of boats have you guys used that has proven an thumbs up in your recommendation. I’ve done Tonka a lot with a 14 and 16 footer(under powered with a 35hp) and I know how that is when you get next them big waves/big wind drafts. Something that can deal with that, or make it ok out on Mille Lacs. Went out with a 14ft 25hp half a day, it was pretty hard to get back. Lot of used boats are also within the 10-16k range which is not too far from a new one. As for fish, everything from panfish to bass, northerns and walleye. Any direction I should look for with either new or used boat?

I’ve fished that lake a few times this ice season already. Gosh havn’t been having any luck either. Did ok by where the guys were all spearing, crappies were hitting a genz bug tipped w/ crappie minnow. Lotta small perches also. Let me know you have been doing out on that lake also.

Thanks for the input Matt, Wade, and Derek. I’m sure looking into the H20 now. When comparing the two, the H20 is a better “bang for the buck”. 3 peeps agreeing on the H20 certainly means its the better deal. I appreciate your help guys. Now one more question. I know the maps software and chips are pricey, how do i determine which one is better for the Minnesota area, maybe Wisconsin and Dakota too?

With a working schedule of 9-5 and sometimes over hours i hardly have time to get out. When I can I’m usually just around metro lakes. I’ve also managed to squeeze in a few millac trips. I was thinking of a handheld instead of a unit for boat because I’m looking to get into some atv/snow mobile action this fall.
