So as long as the body of water you caught them isn’t infested you can use them anywhere? All this time I thought I could only use them in the same water they were caught. This changes everything!!!! Any advice about keeping them alive?

I hate hate handling the little guys because they are so quick. Do you guys ever snip of their spines when you use them live? How long can I keep them alive after doing that?
I’ve found using Thule fabric (the stuff wedding veils are made of) is a cheap and amazing way to keep the liver on the hook. I just wrap a small piece of liver in the Thule and use either fishing line or thread to knot it closed. It doesn’t come off the hook and it lets the bait bleed freely. I make as many as I want and throw em in the freezer. Simple and cheap.
Thanks all! Upon closer examination of my weights…. Yeah it was the rocks. I’ll keep looking for the monsters anyhow.
Black dog has easy accesses, but it’s creepy at night. I wouldn’t be there alone past dark…… Just saying.
The cannon river down towards cannon falls / Randolph has a ton of carp and channels. I’ve found using chicken liver wrapped in cheese cloth or thule fabric is a good way to eliminate the sheepies and focus on the cats and also keep the nasty stuff on the hook. As far as flatheads go…. I’m still searching myself. The cannon hasn’t produced flatheads for me at all. I’ve never heard of them there, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t around. Carp seem to be in every waterway so just try a bigger river with worms.
I’ve heard a lot of guys find trout on the vermillion, but I’m not a trout guy so I have nothing. Good luck!
It looks like you all had a good time and great turn out! I just wish I had seen this earlier because I’m pretty green and could use the education. Any chance you’ll be having another seminar any time?
Fished the King Plant from shore near the discharge yesterday 6am. The water was so calm that you could see the wake from the fish as they swam in which was kinda neat to see. Caught a few Sauger biggest was 14. Tons of Sheepshead which got me itching to throw my other line out with some cut bait. I wasn’t sure about size limitations on caught bait though. Is there a size limit on sheepshead/goldeye/mooneye used for catfishing?
Thanks for the report! I may have to bring my son out there. That sounds exciting enough to keep him interested. I appreciate it!
I’m going to try the king plant confluence when I can. Just curious if I should be walking to the point farthest away from the discharge (pretty much just tossing it out as far as i can into the saint croix) or casting into the white water closer to it for flatheads? I feel like they would sit sit just inside the confluence where the water is calm and the river current is weakest. I guess I’m a newbie….. HALP!
So I jumped the gun and went out late Monday evening. Caught a few carp just after sun down. Hung around for a few hours trying chicken liver and shrimp with no luck. Probably should have waited for warmer weather and gone a bit earlier. I’m still trying to find a decent shore spot and have started looking to the Saint Croix. Has anyone fished the King plant this year?
That’s too bad. I saw a video on here of how vulnerable they are when they are wintering. I might hold off and try Tuesday evening after a nice hot day. Probably mention how it goes on here.
Thanks for all the advice. I have been using large shrimp because most bait shops are closed when I decide to head out… I’ll try suckers. Should I cut them or leave them whole?
I have also been reading a lot about the King Power Plant being a viable spot for some big Flat Heads. Anyone been up there?
