Water temps very drastically throughout the lake. Yesterday I was reading anywhere from 52 degrees to 61 degrees in small water (Bays/inlets). Main basin water of course is much colder.

We did land some big Smallies as they appear to be building nests in some of these areas.

    Good Luck!!

Those are some nice pictures and catches, looks like a blast.
Ive never had much interest in any sort of bass fishing but I must say that those smallies are pretty impressive.

They are a lot of fun when they are on beds.

You’ve got a good plan and the Smallies are angry around nests!!

    Chris is right on,

Fished today in 30+ mph winds and headed straight into it. This boat is awesome. I never thought it would would be that much better than the 2100, but it is.

The tracking with this new hull and keel is 2nd to none. I am sure glad that I traded UP.

Seeing or in this case……..Driving is believing with this new hull design!!

We Definitely need to get in that boat with Ya . With this boat are you running a 3 or 4 blade prop?

To add a question. How much,do you think, does the jack plate help in the conditions that you speak off?

    FDR

Tough question really. It’s hard to know whether the increased performance is coming from the new hull design featured in the WX2190 or the add of a Jackplate. My guess would be a combination of the two.

Amazing!!! Congrats to Ian for one heck of a pike! I LOVE the pic of the pike with it’s head in the water! It should be in a calender or a magazine! Paul

    Thanks Paul

Was so happy for Ian! What a thrill for an 8 year old boy.

Fishing is excellent right now Tyler. One thing to keep in mind is that Rainy Lake is 225,000 acres and fishes different in each area. A couple days ago we murdered the Walleyes on jigs and Moxies in 18ft of water on the Canadian side of the lake. Today we blitzed the big Walleyes on Stick baits in 3-6 ft. of water. Big Pike……I mean the BIG BIG Pike are often times keying in on areas where the male Walleyes are mingling around after the females leave the spawning area. Personally I would arm myself with a pocket full of jigs and Plastics and a box full of an assortment of shallow running stickbaits. I also would have slip bobber rigs. We landed around 20-25 fish in the protected slot today averaging in the 22-24 inch range. We also pulled some big pike again with the biggest taping out at 39 inches.

When your heading up may very well be the key to what tackle to have along. We’re approximately 3 weeks behind what might be considered a normal year, as it pertains to both water temps and spawn cycles. Water levels now appear to be climbing over the rule curve as the 3-4 inches of rain quickly is getting washed into the system.

I used the Scatter Rap on Saturday evening…had 2 other guys in the boat with me (each using different cranks). They “washed the box”, trying everything they had. After a few hours of fishing, the Scatter Rap had boated 10 walleyes and all other efforts boated 2.

    I’m a believer.

Slow learners…….. That’s when you need to tell them you only brought one. The ON THE WATER price of the Scatter Rap gets pricey.

Awesome Awesome pics..You handle those monsters without gloves? No cuts?

Thanks man!! Very happy for those boys. Yeah no gloves. I’m pretty careful with a side of luck. We get a lot of practice with big Pike. My guess would be we’ll land somewhere in the neighborhood of 65-80 pike exceeding 10lbs a season.

    Chris,

I know that you and your clients set the bar high for your fish BUT I think that the twenty five foot tape measure is reaching a bit, don’t you?

    GREAT FISH

    Ron

Thanks!! Truly feel blessed to need a shoulder massage at the end of the day from lifting Pike out of the net. I’ve been guiding for 7 years full time now and frankly after nearly 700 trips…..I can’t wait until tomorrow morning as I’m up crimping a new stash of leaders!! LOL!! Life has been good to me, and I’m so happy to share great days like this with so many fisherman with similiar passions.

Yeah I’d say that would be a tough sell for ya bud. BTW……Sorry to say we clobbered the Walleyes today. Nothing big, but the smallest was 16.5 inches and the biggest was 22 inches. Pretty sure it was a mess of males devouring jigs and plastics. Get that wedding stuff out of the way and grab your sticks!!

I never thought this guy would go glass. He found a good deal on a 2010 Skeeter SL1800 and so far he love is. Plus it must be lucky. His very first cast from the new boat yeilded a nice bass.

NICE!! Always great to get a “Lucky” boat!

That was the very first thought that went through my head as well. “She’s scratching the boat.”

Chris, I guess you could always make her sit in time out in one of the storage compartments.

LOL!! I let her get away with all sorts of stuff.

How are you liking that new boat Chris? Or should I say the little lady’s new boat!

Granted we are in the current break in stage at 2000-3000 RPM’s, but we’ve on occassion dropped the throttle……..Awesome. The boat rides much different than the previous WX2100 hull. There has been a lot of talk about the Reactive keel holding a line. YES the more pronounced keel naturally gives you great control in transport and will be a trollers dream.

Still the boat also rides a bit more “Bow Down”. It took me a bit to get used to this thinking I need to adjust my trim. I guess I was just so used to the slight bow up this level ride seemed different to me. It really gives the driver great vision and greatly reduces blindspots with the bow mount trolling motor. I used to always drive on my knee for better vision.

The boat gets out of the hole great. The re-positioning of the trolling motor batteries coupled with taking a little bow length and adding it to the cockpit surely influenced this hole shot.

The boat corners like a race car!! Rides like an Escalade and fishes BIG!!

Truly love it and congratulate the engineering department of Skeeter Boats on this design. Homerun!!
