Last 2 times out I have found some really nice largemouth out deep. My biggest largemouths of the year have been caught in the past couple weeks. These same areas were holding nice smallies earlier in the year.

If you can find a used Zercom flasher in good condition it would do what you want it to. They work like a Vexilar but have about 20 times the battery life. This would be nice when going to the BWCA.
October 18, 2002 at 5:55 pm #247037I have had my otter for 5 years and love it. Great canvas, tough sled, and I have no complaints about it. I think it is a better product that the Fish Traps. The only problem I have with it is that I can’t fish the Trap attacks without fear of discrimination.LOL.
April 19, 2002 at 4:19 pm #241487I have had a Garmin 12 for 3 years now and recommend it.
I had the old Garmin 38 but it developed a display problem. I send the 38 to Garmin and they sent me back a Garmin 12 with all of my waypoints restored from the Garmin 38.
It is nice having a hand held GPS as my waypoints travel with me for open water, ice fishing and hunting.
April 10, 2002 at 9:20 pm #240836I tried the 4″ Power Tubes on Saturday and caught some nice saugers vertical jigging. We caught all of our fish on tubes while the jig /minnow wasn’t producing. Other people I talked to had the opposite results.
I bought the Power Tubes instead of superdoos because I live in the metro area and I don’t know of any store selling superdoos around here.
Fished Tuesday afternoon and caught nothing on plastics and caught a few on the jig / minnow. The fish were hitting short and light yesterday afternoon for me.
April 8, 2002 at 3:25 pm #240674I have had good luck at Specialized Welding in Minnetonka (952 933 4100). It is near the intersection of Hwy 7 and 101.
April 8, 2002 at 1:59 pm #240665Caught 6 nice saugers on Saturday AM in Pool 4. Mixed in were a few smaller saugers and a white bass. All fish came on plastics with no bait. The last couple times out I have tried fishing 2 rods, one with a jig / part of a power bait twister / minnow, and one with a power tube or ringworm. The best results have been on the power tube.
April 4, 2002 at 4:55 pm #240395What kind of trouble with the Fireline? Be sure to use a mono backer when using fireline.
April 2, 2002 at 7:08 pm #240263Has anyone had any success using Northland spinners (the kind you attach to a jig) attached to one of the Darter style or any other style jig tipped with live bait or plastic? I have had success with this rig fishing shallow water and it might add some vibration and allow you to use a slightly heavier jig when using the shallow water “ringworm techniques”.
April 1, 2002 at 9:12 pm #240169Try trolling taildancers on a 3 way with a big long whippy trolling rod. Be careful of the deadheads (I don’t mean Jerry Garcia fans). These deadheads can remove your skeg if you hit one. Also remember to bring your wave wackers!!!!!!
March 11, 2002 at 4:54 pm #238738I have had problems with the knot strength with the Vanish line I tried 2 years ago. It may have just been a bad batch of line but I have heard others say they have had the same issues. I thought it would work well for live bait leaders leaders but it sinks and keeps your bait on the bottom unless you are using a float of some sort.
February 11, 2002 at 8:45 pm #237115I haven’t had much luck with Spiderwire. It seems kind of limp and I found it hard to work with. I really like 4 lb diameter Fireline for trolling cranks and 6lb diameter for casting lighter lures on a spinning rod. I also use the Fireline on a flippin stick. I tried some of the braids on the flippin stick but they didn’t work as well.
I tried Fireline for other applications (open water jigging and rigging, jigging raps or spoons while ice fishing) and have gone back to low strech mono. I seem to either loose too many fish or pull the hooks out of their mouths when setting the hook or some other mysterious user related problem. I think the Fusion is somewhat similiar to Fireline though I haven’t tried it.
