Things have really picked up on the Croix, especially in terms of size! October was much better than Sept.

Catching more 50s and a few 60s too and everything lately has been on Shad. The Shad are crazy big this year though (9-11″) and difficult to catch, even with Livescope.

Totals so far this Fall is
    276 Sturgeon with 32 over 50″ and 5 over 60″.

Here’s a giant we caught a few days ago.

Have you tried switching that bank over to the other battery to see if it does the same thing?

p.s. – My NOCO has been a great unit for the last 2 years.

    -J.

Well, I switched banks and not only did the problem not follow the battery, it didn’t follow the charger either. Now both show solid green “charge complete”. There must be a slight variance between banks or something…

I honestly haven’t made up my mind up on this one either. A race biased committee doesn’t sit well with me but either does the wording of the question

I mean who would vote against clean water?

On a side note…breaking news…this is how most of our govt works. It’s never one sided and a get everything you want situation, it’s always a compromise. Every single bill has things that makes it bitter sweet.

NOCO CS told me that it switches over to “complete mode” at 14.5V so I wonder what happens if it never gets to 14.5? Does it continue to apply 14.1v continuously?

Another thing to keep in mind, this will also include a new steering committee with a forced race majority.

I’ve been out 5 nights a week and will say that this Sept has been the slowest for me in 15 years. We are still finding fish, but not not the numbers and size I’ve been accustomed to. Average catch rate in the past has been 1-2 sturgeon per hour and this year more like .5-1 per hour.

We have found a few over 55 and did get an awesome 64 on Saturday.

Water tmeps, lack of rainfall, lack of Shad, algae blooms are likely the biggest factors. I was starting to get worried that a good chunk of the big fish had moved down into the Miss, but last night we had giants surfacing all around us so that made me feel better that the fish are still there, but just in a funk right now.

I guess none of you guys have had a RAM with the 4 corner air ride. Zero squat with even the heaviest of loads.

Where is lock port ? Only thing that comes up is Illinois but the dam doesn’t look familiar . Thanks for sharing – you should head down to Venice LA and chase those big blues

Yes, there are many places around the US that are on my list. Just need to find some time to do it. In the intro to the first video, I included many specific details about the how, where’s and when’s if anyone wants to try this trip.

I’ve been there and done that but it was somewhat disappointing for me because it wasn’t a challenge to catch huge channel cats. It was too easy.

Imagine being disappointed in catching too many big fish. LOL

Just a heads up to all of the Pool 2 anglers that we will be having an annual catfish contest out of 494 next Sat 8/24 from 4 to midnight. There will be additional traffic in and out of that ramp all afternoon, evening, and night.
    Sorry for any inconvenience.

This is something that we all (as responsible CCW’ers) need to be very careful with. Interjecting ourselves into a situation in public, with strangers, where we have no idea how (or why) something started could wind up very poorly.

Regarding the duty to retreat, that can look very different situationally. If I’m by myself, I’m a lot more mobile and have way more options than if I’m somewhere with my wife and kids.

I guess an example is if you see someone at gunpoint or a gal getting the livin snot beat out of her by some dude. Do you just yell “run”?

Or what about if you interrupt or are indirectly engaged in an armed robbery? This stuff happens every day…

How does this work if you see someone else in trouble? Are you to assume whether they can or cannot retreat? Are you not able to help them with your unit?

They tend to want to stay on the conservative side. Starting with a looser harvest to start the season is risky because then they may have to completely shut it down like they did more than once in the past. And that’s what nobody wants. Even with catch and release, you affect the quota with hooking mortality (which is a completely different topic and a controversial one).

So then what the penalty for going over? If it’s only going over a small mortality rate of catch and release, why isn’t that acceptable? It’s not like the lake is going to get wiped out by a couple months of catch and release.

Why not just allow a more aggressive harvest until the full quota is reached (or 10% short) then shut it down to catch and release only?

Forecasting Mother Nature rarely goes well.

Rumor has it, 6 Silver Carp were caught and tagged (for tracking purposes) by the MNDNR yesterday out on P2.

Just remember, the top positions within the Dept are appointed by the Gov and it all trickles down. ;)

Y’all know what it’s going to take to change things….

Easy for people to pontificate that don’t actually live in the city. Same tired arguments about MPLS being a crime ridden shithole but haven’t spent any time here.

The Chief is literally begging for help, even from the Feds. It’s tough to follow this profile and not grasp how rampant and blatant and violent the crime is. (not limited to Minneapolis). https://x.com/CrimeWatchMpls

I also agree that 100% of this is on the council.
If the city admin and law enforcement are in a toxic relationship, and bad policies are ignored, then the whole thing just festers.

MPLS is not unlike any other large progressive city. Absolutely beautiful and safe on the top end and a needle infested gutter on the bottom end. The middle just disappears.

Well that was painful to read…

And even today 20 years later, a lot of people have the same mentality. Can’t eat it? Well just kill it then.

“Most people would not consider Sturgeon a game fish?” Huh? Say what? LOL

It’s the King of MN Gamefish!

Gates are still up today at 494

The gate was still sitting there, but moved to one side. I am not 100% sure if some one just moved it over or if it is technically open according to the city of St. Paul. There was not sign up saying that it was closed. 3Rivers is there a website that has this information or are you calling the city to get this info?

I’ve been in contact with the city parks department. I’ve been told they wouldn’t open it until the DNR puts the docks in. They will also normally post an update on their Facebook page (City of South Saint Paul) as to when it opens and closes. I appreciate and understand launching when the gate is moved, I’ve done it many times myself. I just also know they patrol that area often, and trying to avoid any tickets. ;)

Was the gate completely gone from 494, or just moved out of the way? There is a difference to me. According to the City of South Saint Paul it’s not open yet.

With that much damage, I would consider getting a donor lower unit case and swapping internals.

I chatted with City of SSP. I was told they don’t have any short term ETA when it might be open again.
Guessing they won’t open it until the DNR decides to put the dock in.

Yeah that $40 bump at Beach House had me packin. It was my go to for 20 years, but that’s just too much. Even with the no wake area, Hudson is a bargain compared to that.
I launch solo a lot and also not willing to walk back and forth from 4th St to the Public Park either.

Hopefully that Oak Park Heights ramp gets done this year (fingers crossed). Every year they say “next year”. So right now I’m planning for next year. LOL

For future reference, here is the USCG waterways action plan and their thresholds for making these decisions. https://homeport.uscg.mil/Lists/Content/Attachments/2628/UMR_WAP_2023.pdf

I’m guessing the reason this seems unprecedented for Pool 2 specifically is that the water level has went over 17′ (17′ and rising high water action plan) during a typical recreation time frame (May-Sept) only twice in recent history. June of 1993 and June of 2014. All other times have been either March or April when there is very little recreational traffic.

While they may not be actively enforcing, it is the plan and very rarely will a Govt agency not follow their formal procedures.

In this particular case, I think they missed their mark for the announcement of Pool 2 though (which was quicky rescinded). That should have happened on June 26th when the river was 17′ and rising fast, not on July 3rd when it was barely above 17 and falling.

How many records do you have exactly?

I set the original Sturgeon C&R record, and then set it again a few years later.

Yes, you need a signature and a witness. All this secret stuff is non-sense. LOL Who cares where ya caught it. I regularly point out the exact spot I caught my record. There ya go, have at it. haha toast

They should include a thick skin requirement on the application form, because trust me, you’ll need it. And this discussion just proves it once again.

I’m surprised by the number of anglers who are not aware that the MNDNR reset a bunch of records this year. In fact there were quite a few discussions here on IDO (people were losing their minds about it on the Facebook posts)

The previous records will be recognized as “non certified” as they were put in place when a certified weight was not required.

There is a minimum weight in order to set a new record, but there are some others that will be broken eventually (including the walleye). I cannot even imagine the internet firestorm that one will create when it happens.

Here’s a link with all the details: https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/news/2024/02/29/minnesota-dnr-makes-changes-record-fish-program#:~:text=Starting%20March%201%2C%20anglers%20can,profile%20of%20native%20rough%20fish.

They can do whatever they want until someone challenges it. Not sure how they can do it without cooperation of the USCG, but I imagine there is some sort of emergency policy or clause that temp overrides everything.

and yes that’s the problem with something new like this, its much easier to put a policy in place then it is to remove it. The same thing happened with the 494 ramp. Unnecessary closure this Spring IMO and that has followed a more recent trend in the past 5 years.
